This dvd extra is an interview with composer Johannes Schmölling, one of the members of Tangerine Dream, group that provided the score for Michael Mann's "Thief".
Schmölling tells us about how the music was composed in order to create a suitable atmosphere for the film and how the group had to find ways to understand the director's idea of a soundtrack to match the film's somber mood to each particular scene or the most intense sequences as well. It's all about the atmosphere played on the screen which consisted mostly of nightly scenes, thrilling moments that didn't had much dialogue (as the opening heist, for example), things like that.
It was an okay experience to see the artist explaining those things or talking about how much he enjoyed working in the movie, but Mr. Schmölling isn't exactly the kind of composer I'd like to see doing that kind of thing and sadly for me, the ones I'd like to see doing it hardly ever do that, with the exception of the genial John Williams. No harm done, so if you're curious go ahead and activate captions because it's in German (thumbs up to the man though for not succumbing to Hollywood's demands). 7/10
