Interesting culinary locations.

I do like that that the host goes to unusual locations. He checks out the food markets showing the different items unique to each country, roams the streets and interacts with the locals. In addition to food, he goes to the tea and coffee shops, bakeries, chocolate shops, many of the street vendors and once in a while an indoor eatery. Since he is there for 24 hrs you get to see what foods the people of each country eat for each meal, from breakfast to dinner and late night snacks. It seems like its mostly the United States that has determined what is breakfast cuisine, like eggs, bacon, ham, pancakes and that type of food. You find in many countries what they eat for breakfast, is what they eat for lunch and dinner as well, like soup for instance. So I found that very interesting.

My biggest issue with the show is the sometimes the host can be very obnoxious. He always asks to go into the kitchen. If he is not asking to make some of the food, with his street clothes on (many times with his coat, scarf and hat..not very sanitary), he is hovering over the food that is to be served to other people. I can't imagine the owners were very pleased with that. In one segment, he was drizzling honey over baklava (I believe) and while he is pouring the honey over an entire tray of dessert, he sticks his tongue under the pouring honey. How disgusting and rude. He can be normal and entertaining, but some of his antics in the store owners kitchens are difficult to watch.

Uninspired but funny as hell

This is a food doc. version of "The Office" complete with Michael Scott bumbling in his self centered universe while offending every race, creed, culture and cuisine. He does visit some most remarkable cities and consistently manages to offer little insight. Missed opportunities abound as well as total self awareness by the host. He spends time in small restaurants while endless varieties of authentic street food go unexplored.

Makes you understand people's cultures but the host is unbearable

Warning: Spoilers
I just started watching this show on Netflix because I love travel shows and more importantly I love food. The host has 24 hours to eat and experience the street culture in the countries he visits. He visits street vendors, bakeries, restaurants, tea shops, coffee shops as well as the local street markets. The show lets us have an inside look at some of the places we will never have the chance to visit ourselves.

The reason why I gave this show a 5/10 is because the host is so obnoxious and has no training in culture appreciation. He makes rude jokes sometimes that he thinks are funny, but to the people living there, it is just plain offensive. That being said, he is entertaining on some parts of the show and does provide a brief summary of the history on the food he is eating. But in order to compare him with other food show host, he must be able to describe the food like the viewers are there eating the food themselves. His description on the food he tries are below average. "That's good" and "Wow, that's delicious" does not really describe the different flavors that are exploding in your mouth. No wonder this show only has two seasons. Overall, it's a good show to watch if you can ignore the host and just focus on the culture and food itself.
