Bosch continues to investigate the murder of porn producer Allen. There is something more to this than how Allen made a living. We find out later that it's a lot more. George is deeply involved in some illegal activities. We are not shown his specific motivations. We do know that he is on the take--whether he is undercover or into the game is what is a mystery. It's obvious in this episode that Harry is intrigued by Allen's wife. Roads, however, lead back to Las Vegas, and Harry is going to have to go there. Of course, daughter Maddie and Eleanor (his ex) live there and so he can make it work and family. The episode started out with the usual brick wall that the Feds have constructed and Harry is frustrated. He knows how hard it it to get things needed for cases from these guys. I'm still trying to get some commitment to the second season. Maybe in episode three.

Solid second episode

Bosch and others continue the investigation into Allen's murder.

The plot is slowly developing with information being drip-fed about certain characters, with no major revelations yet. For me the most intriguing part is when the reporter contacts Bosch.

Bosch banging heads with the FBI is a good moment as it produces a a level of frustration from its depiction of law enforcement organisations with cross purposes. The scenes involving Irving become more interesting now as it makes you want to find out how he will play the election politics. Plus the situation involving his son makes the it all feel like a ticking time-bomb.

For me the strongest aspect is the dialogue exchanges between characters, which feels very natural and like it's coming from real people.

I agree with another reviewer who mentions there is too much focus at times on the characters personal lives. One scene in particular with Billets in a jazz club feels like nothing more than to fill time.

For me it's a 7.5/10, but I round upwards.

Best episode of the season

My overall rating of "Bosch"'s Season 2: 5/10

So this episode builds up on a feeling I've first encountered in the previous one: that this season is a smoother one, where events feel more like roadsigns on a well-asphalted highway rather than horse-droppings in a field of watery mud in spring. There are more significant events, plotlines, locations, characters; there's more intrigue - it just feels different. Unfortunately, that feeling is to drop off later in the season, although it's never completely lost.

The episode is, however, not without flaws. The FBI agent leader is a bad actor; and there is way too much personal stuff - both in the sense that it gets a bit boring and padded, _and_ in the sense that characters kinda overshare about their private lives - perhaps I'm simply around more reserved people, but it makes the characters feel unnatural, like they're straining themselves for dialogue materiel.
