The Young Dr. Orloff Chronicles (2013)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fun, informative documentary on the making of Jess Franco's THE AWFUL DR. ORLOF. The film clocks in at 18-minutes and features interviews with Daniel Lasoeur, the son of producer Marius, Alain Petit and Jean-Pierre Bouxyou. We start off learning about how Franco and the producers watched THE BRIDES OF Dracula and decided to make their own horror movies. Along the way Petit talks about the Daivd Khunne pseudonym and how no one has ever been able to locate one of the pulp novels that Franco claims to have written. From here we learn in great detail about the Spanish and French versions of the film and why there needed to be two. We also learn about the popularity of the film as well as its mobility to shock when it was released. Fans of THE AWFUL DR. ORLOF will certainly want to check this out as it gives you a great amount of details on the making of the film, its importance in the genre and of course getting to learn about the two versions was a major plus.
