A nice little documentary short

Don Taylor is a Canadian who most people today won't recognize. However, back in the 1960s and 70s, he was an excellent major league pitcher and won a World Series ring with the Miracle Mets. However, unlike the average retired ballplayer, Taylor had an interesting life after he gave up pitching. He went to medical school and became a doctor and ended up being hired by the Toronto Bluejays to be their team doctor and pitching coach!

This film is a biography of the guy--following him from his childhood all the way up to today. It works very well for two main reasons. Taylor seems like a nice, humble guy and it's easy to care about him and his career. Additionally, the filmmakers did a dandy job making it and this very polished film ended up winning an award at the Orlando Film Festival where I saw the picture.

The story is a fascinating narration of Ron's baseball career and calling to the medical profession and work with the Blue Jays. It is worth viewing.

Last Sunday I was pacing around home waiting for an appropriate time to leave to get to the Rogers Centres for the ALDS Game 3. I took the time to look at the film "Ron Taylor: Dr. Baseball". How I found out about this film was at a Blue Jays flag raising at the "Bird's Nest" at Toronto City Hall. As Jays alumni were at the event, the Taylor family was present. I took the opportunity to say hello to Drew Taylor and tell him I saw the film "Our Man in Tehran" at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015. Drew and Mathew Taylor created this film. Drew asked if I had seen "Ron Taylor: Dr. Baseball," and mentioned that I could view it online. That is what I did. The film, a 20-minute documentary, is told through archival footage, interviews, and great musical score. The story is a fascinating narration of Ron's baseball career and calling to the medical profession and work with the Blue Jays. It is worth viewing.
