This is a French film made available for the US market in haste. The historical information at the beginning and end of the film are written in French with no English subtitles. It is all dubbed in English and where they are apparently speaking some Viking dialect there are French subtitles.
The film starts on the eve of the 1066 invasion, which we never see, and flashes back to 1034. William becomes a Duke in exile because of his illegitimacy, apparently not a Christian marriage. Most of the film consists of brief skirmishes while they play "hide the Duke."
The film doesn't have anyone with their faces painted blue, no great female warriors, no Eva Green's breasts, and no zombies. Now I don't normally advocate such items in historical films...unless they are boring, like playing "hide the Duke" with brief skirmishes.
Guide: No swearing or sex. brief partial nudity.
