Straight lift from James Hadley Chase
pcsarkar17 August 2018
So JHC is passe' and people won't know if a plot, characters and even dialogues are plagiarized from the King of Thrillers' novels? Not quite, sir. Because this film is a straight lift from JHC's novel, "The World in My Pocket."

Now this plot is given the make-over, with a strange mish-mash of 1970s flavor, Rajasthani locales and some pretty good action sequences. But since there is no central plot, the film is disjointed and the actors / actresses are wasted. A fleeting reference is made to the (late) maniacal politician, Sanjay Gandhi. For some strange reason, to grab a local (female) ruler's gold hoard, the army is called in, who are present from the first to the last frame with their incompetent presence. I thought it would be the job of the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, or at least the local police? The latter are there, bumbling along, without any purpose.

The armored invincible van bearing the loot is of course, from JHC's masterpiece. I could not exactly understand Ajai Devgun's character in the film. Was he a personal body guard, or lover, or villager full of angst? We have Vidyut playing an OTP army major. One almost feels like slapping the character played by him. In real life, majors do not strut about in civvies, direct civil operations or argue with their COs. Or carry on clandestine affairs with royalty. Or maybe few do.. I can't say.

The indeterminate ending is good, because the film itself in indeterminate. The sandstorms have been portrayed nicely. Ileana looks good as usual. Not much is expected from her anywaz. The rest come and go without any purpose.

Certainly worth a watch. But a watch without expectations.

Average Movie.
shankhan-595746 September 2017
He collects men with muscles and women with great bodies, and packs them off to the deserts of Rajasthan on the pretext of a thriller. But apart from loading the pack with guns, silly dialogues and twisted personalities, and investing in the celebrated Sunny Leone's raunchy moves along with a ginormous truck, Luthria forgets he needs a story to fit them all in. Instead, he obediently plays to the gallery and glorifies his macho men by parading them in slow-mo shots that are tuned to a blaring background score. High on macho-ism and low on logic or reason, Baadshaho unfortunately remains a BAD SHOW.

Luthria could have taken Baadshaho to a higher level. In addition to some compelling action, also on the plus side is the real-life mystery of the wealth that is intelligently handled; there are no filmy 'usual' resolves to the conflict, which again is a bold move. The boldest is how Luthria and Devgn give screen space for all - Vidyut Jamwal, for example; he often steals the scene. Every actor does justice to his/her roles. Stronger writing with less of the repetitive lines, firmer editing, and more realistic approach to the central narrative without the predictable invincibility of the protagonists could have made Baadshaho a more compelling film. For now, it is strictly time-pass.

A Fair Watch!
namashi_130 January 2018
'Baadshaho' is a typical B-Movie, with a A-list budget, director & cast. And to its luck, it succeeds in being a thoroughly watchable heist flick, that has its own share of pros and cons.

'Baadshaho' Synopsis: An Indian queen (Ileana D'Cruz) asks her bodyguard (Ajay Devgn) to steal back gold taken from her by the Indian government during The Emergency period in 1975, when she is arrested wrongfully.

'Baadshaho' is well-paced & all the stuff revolving around the heist, has moments of fun. Sure, the dialogue are cheesy & done for effect, the Writing is never super-solid (despite a few nice twists) & even has a rather weak climax. But, these minuses don't take away its share of pluses, that are its fast-pace, crackling characters & a genuinely sexy background score, that adds hugely to the narrative.

Rajat Arora's Screenplay has its ups and downs, but luckily, it never runs out of breath. The cheesy dialogue merit a special mention. Milan Luthria's Direction is fair. Cinematography & Editing are alright. Action-Sequences are decent, while The Music has interesting tunes.

Performance-Wise: Ajay Devgn is as usual - macho & committed. Emrran Hashmi does very well in a massy role. Vidyut Jammwal is strictly okay. Ileana D'Cruz is passable, while Esha Gupta has her moments. Sanjay Mishra is first-rate, yet again! Sharad Kelkar is wasted.

On the whole, 'Baadshaho' is a fair watch.

Fake ratings, genuinely not worth your time.
aalamster4 September 2017
Don't go by the ratings, this is a crap movie, a total waste of time. I don't write reviews professionally but I'm compelled to warn you after wasting my time and money.

Ajay Devgn,Emraan Hashmi & Sanjay Mishra are far better actors than what they did in this Milan Luthria's directorial failure. They couldn't depict the era according to the movie plot. It was full of shortcomings from the very start and add to it the most ambiguous climax.

It seemed like the acting talent and the plot was wasted very badly by monotonous repetitive dialogues and flawed sequences.

A Major Disappointment of year 2017!!!
pratyush26114 September 2017
This movie doesn't live up to acting abilities of Ajay Devgn,Emraan Hashmi & Sanjay Mishra. Director Milan Luthria narrated a half cooked story with most ambiguous climax scene I've ever imagined. Illeana D'Cruz & Esha Gupta are terrible actresses. They proved me right once again. That's why both of them were mostly signed in multi-starer movies. Vidyut Jambval was average but underutilized not only as an actor but also as a stunts-man. Even Sharad Kelkar's performance was better than Emran Hashmi's because Hashmi's character didn't get as many lines as expected.

Ajay Devgn barely speaks in the movie and repeats "Char din" dialogue monotonously every time, when he appears on screen. If you people are genuine fans of Emraan & Ajay then please don't promote this awful dish disguised as a feature film. That sandstorm scene in the end was like the last nail in the coffin...

Emergency failed to Entertain.
booon_tips5 September 2017
I recently saw Baadshaho, an action film by Milan Luthria set in 1975- 77 Emergency period.

I have to admit that it is one of the worst movie made by Milan Luthria who gave us films like Kachche Dhaage, Taxi No 9211, The Dirty Picture etc.

The film doesn't encompass any ethos of 1975-77 emergency period declared by Indira Gandhi. If you take out newspapers headlines, some dialogues of mentioned emergency, and a man writing on blackboard a notice; you will realize that the story could have told without it.

It is a simple story of few thugs trying to loot the gold of a queen. The film has a suggested portrayal of Maharani Gayatri Devi by Ileana D, which is of no use at all in, why she seeks to protect the gold? For whom?

It has some really bad cuts, you see film unfolds in time and space. The editor cuts the film before the space & time could establish the setting. Few cuts are actually a jump in time and space.

Cinematography, it is nothing great. The location has its own aura, its own effects on the dwellers. But the DOP has used it just like a prop in Ad films. Neither the village, nor the Castle is explored in its essence in this film. Besides the full desert where the end part of the film is set up is not utilized by the DOP and the director.

The script has a few very comic moment. When the truck is stopped by Ajay and gang, the police shoots, no one gets hit except when the Ajay and gang shoots back. When Ajay shoots at Vidyut it always hits the ground, why he wants to protect him, only director knows. And at the end they throw the guns and fist fights. What an action film!!! That's where actually the comedy happens.

The ending of film is very lose, it gives no sense of film making. The director, editor, cameraman and the writer leaves the film at its fate and fades out. It is such a badly ended film which needs a solid Script Writing.

In providing entertainment, entertainment and entertainment director forgot it is the script that create entertainment not the prop like actors who doesn't carry a scene, nor an emotion except that old guy Sanjay Mishra who says 'Tere jaise bahut chuitye ban gaye pyar mein..'

After watching the film audience came with the dialogue, 'Director made us chutiya by showing emergency in trailer'.

A thriller movie with some good twists
nareshchaturvedi31 August 2021
First of all don't trust on fake low ratings. I'm a movie buff and i really enjoyed this movie.

I won't say its a great movie but it will surely entertain you.

Film has everything that a masala movie need. Be it story, direction, action or acting, everything is balanced.

Give it a watch and thanks me later.

what a waste of time!
myyyyy113 October 2017
First of all most of the reviews here are fake, fake and fake.

Even kids movies have better stories and screenplays. The story may be related to an actual incident but rest of the movie is just a joke.

The plot is laughable and stupid with so many logical errors that I had to quit watching it part way through.

Action scenes are naive and dialogues are unrealistic. Fights and chases are unimpressive.

A big waste of time!

2nd Worst Movie I ever watched.
jitenlives2 September 2017
Well Most worst I watched was Drona and this one competes a lot with it.

Don't ask which part or category I liked..

1 >> Movie does not have a proper plot and i am still wondering the motive of movie.

2 >> Seems freshers were recruited for movie editing ... Every where goofups.

3 >> Music and sound tracks does not match the situation.

4 >> Actors are unable to deliver the dialouges.

5 >> Most of scenes are over delivered.

6 >> Don't ask about climax... and suddenly the movie ends without showing where the hell princess is.

Well I want my Money back and Secondly I am never going for movie after seeing fake and Paid reviews on IMDb.

I loved it
jathiranathan1 September 2017
If you like storytelling, you are going to enjoy it. Baadshaho is all about the Emergency – After Emergency has been declared in India, the beautiful Maharani Gitanjali (Ileana) from one of the Rajasthan's Princely States who has already lost her privy purse, fears that she will lose the last consignment of gold which has been forcibly taken away from her. So, she asks her trusted deputy, Bhawani (Ajay) to step in and plan a heist. The mastermind, Bhawani (who deeply loves Gitanjali) promises her full support and positive results. He handpicks his crew— a lock picker, Tikla (Sanjay), a daredevil all-rounder, Daliya (Emraan), a 'I love dares-girl', Sanjana(Esha) who along with him, form the quartet that set out to outsmart the army guys taking the armoured truck from Rajasthan to Delhi. And this is the basic premise of the story. Director (Milan Luthria) has done a wonderful job by recreating the era of the 70s. First half of the movie is better than the second half due to well-balanced content; however, the film loses grip in the second half. Having said that, one can still continue enjoying brilliant performance and good cinematography. Rajat Arora (writer) has also done a good job with good dialogues; nevertheless, end of the movie could have been made better. I must mention that the costume designers have done a great job in giving the actors & actresses the accurate look (typical 70s). As far as acting is concerned, this is one best movies of Ajay Devgn's career (performance wise) and I can say that this role could not have performed better by any other actor apart from Ajay Devgn. Emraan Hashmi gave his best in the movie and Vidyut Jammwal's acrobatic skills manage to keep the audience engaged. Music is one of the biggest strengths of the film. All the tracks have been composed beautifully and according to the moment that the script demanded. Last but not the least, apart from the songs, superb background score was the biggest plus of the movie especially in the second half. Conclusion: Highly recommended to all the cine goers especially period movie lovers.

So Ajay Devgan and team spent a whole year to come up with this
saketsaurav-868281 September 2017
The Baadshaho team travelled miles and spent over a year to make the film. Any one who would hear this would say the movie must be very good and well made. "Aah!"- this is what you say after watching this movie. The trailer itself was sadly unimpressive. Coming to the movie, when you have a team of six in which two are great actors, one is good and the other three do nothing but make faces throughout the film, you know that the film would sink. Surprisingly, acting is not a flaw here. Its the story that is so weak and badly presented that you keep getting bored and a time comes when you give up on your expectations. Don't anticipate greatness and the movie will be watchable.

Don't watch in theater
abhinew2 September 2017
You never connects with the characters , their emotions or story. End is abrupt. You will learn how gold melts and director took care of it by spending more than enough time on showing related graphics. Scene of Imran and Esha alone in truck and their conversation, Esha starts crying is unnecessary. Don't waste money to watch it in theater. Songs are not at all required!

Not Like A Baadshah
Rahul14312527 October 2017
A truck having millions of gold in it, which had to be burgled in the middle of the road doesn't appear to be bad on paper, but I'll have to say that this one was awful on the big screen.

A backdrop of Emergency in 1975, reminds me of Madhur Bhandarkar's amateurish Indu Sarkar. But Baadshaho isn't like this one. Also it's bad ass one-liners and terrific action scenes become negligible because of it's prolonged duration of two hours and forty-two minutes.

The ensemble cast consists of Ajay Devgn who plays Bhawani Singh a bodyguard who works for Ileana D'Cruz who is a Queen. Vidyut playing a soldier is mind-blowing, his mustache and physique makes an impressive remark. Emraan Hashmi as Dalia is all- right, whereas Sanjay Mishra in the role of Guruji, who knows how to break locks is like an entertainment package. Esha's and Ileana's performances are so-so.

Director Milan Luthria of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and The Dirty Picture fame has made the film look so scruffy that more than a heist drama it seems to be like a spoof of one of the previous films made on the same genre in Bollywood.

Story and Screenwriter Rajat Arora who has an indistinguishable fame like the director has written an entirely boring and feeble - minded screenplay. Hoewever, the first act appears to be heroic and clap-worthy with Ajay stating his repetitive dialogue. There is another whistle-blowing dialogue that Emraan Hashmi says in the third act. So a simple story and second- rate screenplay can't help this film to emerge as a blockbuster.

Sunita Radia, the Cinematographer has shot the film extremely well. The editing is also fantastic.

Comprehensively, this mass audience targeted film will prove to emerge as debacle.

I'm going with one and a half out of five for Baadshaho. Save your time.

Once upon a time with Bad Show
Ishaan_Bhatnagar22 October 2017
With the semi crew of Once Upon a Time in Mumbai the movie has a very high stake and it fall really short with the expectations of the viewers. The script was weak and puked the suspense before the interval. Performances were ordinary and characters were not handled in the manner they should have been. Ajay Devgan played well but he does not have much on his part, similarly Emraan got a few heavy dialogues but his character ended up doing nothing as per his image. Vidhyut looked stunning in the early 70s getup. Action sequences looked first copy of Fast and Furious sequences. Overall it was a dumb movie.

Highly enjoyable despite the flaws!!!
Rawal_Afzal3 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'll be very honest, the film has so many flaws that you might lose the count of it midway through the film, but the film is not a failed project that you forget all that once it takes off. So I myself and those from my family watching it with me fully enjoyed their time. The twists keep you engaged, the ending and the revelations that surround it at some point make you overlook the flaws.

As always, Ajay Devgn's performance stands out and really admirable is how he adopts those local accents in films, such as of Bihari, Punjabi, Rajasthani etc. The film has the occasional comedy to make you laugh in between, but the best bit of the film lies in its really powerful dialogues. Very really do we as viewers look beyond what's on the screen, but the powerful dialogues were really hard to ignore when in conversation one opposing person replied to the other - or vice versa, and were really good, especially, again, in that voice of Ajay.

A movie inspired by the emergency of 1974
naxus_nkt6 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the movie for Ajey Devgun and I was disappointed. An actor of his talent and status is just wasted. It could have been made better and it looks like the director was in a hurry.

Warning: spoiler ahead

There were too many loop holes in the plot like the Maharani had no problem in sexually enticing her body guard and an army officer but when it comes to Sanjeev Gandhi who was just like the king of India at the time, she just rejected him. The Maharani was shown as someone selfish and manipulative but she just become someone of dignity and honor at that instance and this didn't make any sense. The treasure of Maharani is just guarded by two army office and instead of transporting it with a more secure and easiest way of flying of to its destination it was transported by a single truck. The treasure in the end is given to poor but how easy it would have been for the government and Sanjeev to reclaim it back by force.

decent entertainer
beevenkat13 September 2019
#Baadshaho is a decent entertainer, don't believe the negative reviews. Devgan, Hashmi, Mishra, Jamwal deliver good performances. Jamwal's introduction scene is noteworthy. A Rajasthani Maharani wants to retrieve her khazana from the Government. There is a major twist to her character, which makes it slightly interesting. The locations r authentic n some dialogues r clap worthy. The second half needs to be trimmed by 20 minutes. Rating 3/5.

So happy, watched the best movie of 2017
suchetnabsu2 September 2017
This film has a lot going for it. It's extremely cinematic and well crafted. In particular, I really liked Ajay Devgn (Bhawani); as he carried the not a not-so-easy role with great ease. Well worth seeing; it's gripping, has good action sequence and the mild love angle; however, some might dislike the downbeat ending. Milan Luthria is not a big director in Bollywood, however, he has done very well (especially with this period genre). His story is new, direction is brilliant; however, the screenplay is weak. Yet another balancing aspect that helps the film fly is the background score and the cinematography. Bot there recreates the 70s era perfectly.

The film is full of good dialogues; a lot of them are one liners. I can tell you one thing for sure: you won't forget them that easily after you've seen it. The music of the film is great. The song where Sunny Leone delivers an item number stands out from the lot.Verdict: A good period thriller flick providing wholesome entertainment. One of the best films of 2017. I give it 9/10

A tale of friendship, trust, loyalty and....a lot of twists!!
ashutosh-064 September 2017
The last time the troika of Ajay-Emraan-Luthria got together, we were treated to a classic(Once Upon A Time in Mumbai). Although Baadshaho cannot be placed in the same league, it is still a pretty good watch.

Baadshaho takes you on a ride which revolves around the 1975 emergency. The makers have tried to maintain the 1975 feel throughout the film and I would say they have pretty much succeeded. The palaces, costumes and for that matter even the dialogues have been carefully handled. The movie mainly revolves around a heist which is led by Ajay after having orders from Ileana. What follows is the planning and plotting and setting up for the heist.

There are a lot of twists that happen which keeps you at the edge of your seat for the film's entirety. The film does not have a proper climax and it just ends on a positive note. With the amount of build-up, the movie would have been better served with a better finish.

Ajay gives a pretty solid performance as Bhavani. This role is probably tailor-made for someone like him who generally works around good sell-able dialogues and not with much facial expressions per say. Emraan once again proves to be the perfect fit along with Ajay, there is something about these two which makes a good movie much much better. Emraan carries off the role of Dalia with much ease and is well cast for the character. Sanjay Mishra doesn't have much scope and tries his best in whatever small part is written for him. Vidyut Jamwal takes care of most of the heavy-duty stunt scenes with unassuming ease. His role is pretty critical in the movie and he does not fail the director with his performance. Ileana D'Cruz is probably the only one who felt like a complete mis-fit in the entire cast. She tries quite hard to bring that daring, hot-headed personality of Rani Gitanjali but fails miserably. She is really good with her romantic scenes, she in fact carries them off with such ease that it makes one wonder if she was cast just keeping in mind the romantic aspect of the film. As for Esha Gupta there is hardly anything to write about her role which is just an extended cameo, hardly any dialogues and just adds glamour to the screen with her presence.

The theme music has quite a good feel around it with a heavy BGM. Songs are pretty average except Tere Rashke Kamar which is a soulful number.

All in all a good watch but the movie could have been a few notches better. Still, worth a watch.

Poor approach towards it in the name of king size thriller
dineshprakash1 September 2017
When a person starts narrating a thriller and whenever he gets stuck in a situation, takes help of some flash back to add thrill in his story. Sorry, you can go ahead but I am not interested to listen. Same thing happens throughout in the film. Surprises come as a flash back which strictly push away you to get involved in the film. You just helplessly watch the film after few minutes when they started hurling flash back on you in the name of thrill. First a body guard and Princess affair, momentarily established just by a melo dramatic scene of taking her to jump into a river to make her realize worth of life, which doesn't fit a bit after wards. Even there was a bonfire in secluded place!!? Princess drops her fur coat in front of body guard on the top of her fort like they are invisible!? Just for the beatification of scene!! In very first moment of film, Army searches and blasts a fort for treasure like they are searching for terrorist! Government officer gets slapped by Princess then a stupid flash back justifies it! Escape from Police lock up by ramming truck was so idiotic. In chase sequence Police Jeeps get blocked by heard of camel! In now a days age of stylized cinema, specialist in thriller genre who can think of such lame and stale scenes. Lock opening with any thing and very long lock opening sequence of the treasure when you don't feel a bit of happening on screen. Gold had to be melted when that can easily come inside the earthen pot meant to carry them, in there original form! Long climax of actors fighting and rolling in dust and sand is totally waste of money and actors patience. At the end you think like that why did Princess not accept so called Sanjeev offer? Because then there would be no story! There was no need to Portray Princess character like a real Princess of Rajasthan of that politician son's angle. They are deliberately dragged in this muddle without relevance. Gone are the days for such type of things. An non melodic item song is also stuffed just to show case most exposed girl's body!? Performance wise hats off to Sanjay Mishra, who can make you laugh by his expression or improvisation. Rest are just OK.
