Less Flockhart, But Still Watchable
slightlymad2225 January 2017
Plot In A Paragraph: Kara (Mellisa Benoist) struggles with losing her powers as chaos reigns around her, and she is unable to help people.

This is one of the better episodes, as it is clearly leading to a bigger picture, rather than Supergirl just battling a villain of the week.

There is less Calista Flockhart in this episode, which is a shame, as I love her. She is the best thing in the show. Benoist ups her game, and givers her best performance of the series, as the struggling Kara.

We've known for some time that all is not as it seems with Hank, and we get our answers in this episode.

We also get another cliffhanger too!!

All in all one of the better episodes. Hopefully a sign of things to come!!

A Bit more substance

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a little be better than the others writing wise, but still riddled with the same issues from other episodes. The episode revolves around a disaster while supergirl has lost her powers.

The motivating speeches are a nice change of pace because they are placed well throughout the episode. The alien with mind powers doesn't make much sense on how he's been able to kill some of the Agents but oh well.

*spoilers* The episode introduced neural inhibitors to block Jemm's, mind controlling alien, powers but then he immediately kills them. Not to mention why the DEO hadn't tried to remove his laser blasting crystal before. I say it was removable since it was punched from his skull.

A Wonderful Episode
cwg2005a22 August 2016
The episode "Human for a Day" is a joy to watch: the acting in this show is fun to watch, for one thing. The cast has grown nicely into their characters, which have all evolved nicely over the first few episodes. Here, every person has a scene to inhabit, and each of them fulfill the demands of the writing.

Speaking of which, the showrunner and writer's room have nicely justaposed several threads into this episode without a single stumble, not once sacrificing speed for explanation. Each scene propels the story and characters forward into a new unexpected story line. Very nicely done!

I would be amiss if I omitted a special nod to Calista Flockhart: he balancing of self-centered arrogance with a sense of justice and right for others is immaculately done. If you've never seen this series, watch for the pleasure of seeing this under-rated actor perform.

One additional treat: the appearance of Astra. Always good to see her!

Badass Danvers

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is cut in two part: The part with the alien against hank henshaw and Alex is great. Badass Danvers is here. The work over her character is superb, the same for jon'jonz (martian manhunter). The secret that he revealed was great. The part with Lara was good, her speech too. Cat grant was very cool and a source of inspiration in this episode again. I don't understand who is the one who tried to destroy national city,I suppose it's astra.

This is a hero
Jackbv1236 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is why I watch superhero movies and shows. This hero, Supergirl, has super values. It's true that the story gets a little sappy in that regard. Kara is so trusting, which is one of the foundation stones of the show, at least early seasons.

The episode starts with a lot of public criticism of Supergirl. Now, Kara has lost her powers and has a broken arm to boot. National City is in a crisis and people need Supergirl everywhere. We have one scene where Kara watches as a person dies that Supergirl could have saved. This rips her up. There are tragedies going on all around her and all she can do is watch helplessly. There is a conversation about it with Jimmy.

Then she sees someone go into a store to loot it with a gun. Kara dons her Supergirl outfit and walks into the store powerless. She knows the gunman can kill her. But others are at risk. She talks him down. This is a true hero. That was obviously the point of the story, but way too many of our recent superhero franchises have obscured the integrity that a true superhero should have. Some still have it to a point. The 4 movies with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman are good examples.
