Sex & Nudity

  • The film contains some verbal references to sex. Some of them are quite crude and the word "fuck" is used in them.

Violence & Gore

  • The film contains scenes of strong violence that are depicted with some detail.
  • A man is caught in a burning building and, to escape, runs through the flames. There are flames on his clothes and skin but are quickly extinguished. Later in the film his facial burns are seen regularly.
  • A woman kicks a boy and a girl teenager hard in the crotches.
  • A man throws an IV of blood against a wall resulting in a small bloody splash.
  • A man suffering from cancer coughs some small spots of blood onto a woman's face by accident.


  • The expletive "fuck" is used 100 times in the film. A few of the uses are sexual.
  • Stronger expletives such as "cunt" and "motherfucker" are used infrequently. The word "Nigger" is also used and that might be offensive to some. Racism is a huge theme in the movie and a lot of the characters have no filter, so they say the expletives quite quickly, but it is still there nonetheless. It's a part of their characters.
  • These expletives are typically uttered in quick succession during scenes of emotional outbursts, as well as during confrontations in between characters. These scenes are scattered across the film and are very frequent.
  • 2 uses of the word "cock" both are used in a sexual manner

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This film is very heavy. It revolves around a woman who lost her daughter to a rapist and it is mentioned that she was burned alive. She then decides to put up Billboards that say the police aren't doing their jobs, which drives the whole town into anger, and hatred. Other dark elements are explored such as a man dying of cancer, suffering from the loss of a child, domestic abuse, depression and violence.

Violence & Gore

  • Some of the stronger scenes include a close-up shot of a dental drill being forced into a man's thumb, causing his nail to shatter and briefly showing a spurt of blood; a scene where a man is pistol whipped in the face, battered and flung out of a building, causing him to suffer from strong bruises and has lots of blood on his face; and a scene where a man with severe burns on his face and has several injuries, is physically assaulted by two bar patrons who rain down punches and kicks on him, leaving him with an extremely bruised and bloodied face.
  • There is also a scene where a man commits suicide by shooting himself in the head where it depicts a brief spurt of blood when he pulls the trigger, as well as a brief shot of the aftermath of the victim's head, although it is covered by a blood-soaked sack.
  • The whole film revolves around a mother who lost her daughter to a horrific crime. It is mentioned that she was raped and burned alive.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is a scene depicting suicide where a man, with a bag over his head, fires a pistol into the side of his temple. His wife finds a letter he wrote to her and she starts sobbing and wailing.
