The Return of Fan Favorite Lucifer
reneelbuck10 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was very excited to see the Tweets and promo videos that Mark Pelligrino would once again take on the role of Lucifer. The episode was full of great moments.

The episode had some great interactions with Rowena and Crowley. I am not a big Rowena fan, but she was better in this episode. She created the spell to bring Lucifer out of the suspended cage and into a grounded one. She also had a starstruck feeling for "the original dark prince." Crowley also had a slight fear the whole episode, which was beautifully done by Mark Sheppard. Dean and Amara had some great scenes as well. She believes of a longing for him and that they become one. She seemed less evil, more lost. She wants to quarrel with God and God only which was unexpected since the whole 1st episode makes her seem like a villain. The best scenes by far were between Lucifer and Sam. Lucifer never misses a beat to respond with a witty remark. He is still trapped, but the way he acts is as if he is free. Lucifer puts on a sly act and truly makes Sam believe what he need him too. Even as a viewer, I don't know what is a lie and what was not.

The ending was excellent and a great cliffhanger for the long wait until the conclusion. The tears from Sam's eyes were tear jerking and Lucifer's smile was an excellent end.

I wish I could give higher than a 10. The episode was almost perfect. I just wish that Cas could have made an appearance even a small one

Sam gets more visions from god. dean is adamant on not letting Sam go into the cage.

Warning: Spoilers
(spoilers) FINALLY!!!!!! after 5 seasons the one episode which justifies why supernatural is awesome. this is the type of episode one expects from the makers. it should have come earlier but anyways. the pace of the plot is uniform. the surprises are chilling. in short a great episode before mid season break. mark pellargio's acting is commendable as he turns the heat on in hell. the conversation between devil and Sam is extraordinary.the chat between Rowena and Crowley is clichéd though. the same old chatter. anyways the man in the spotlight is Lucifer after this episode. let's see what happens next. will Lucifer and darkness fight or tag team. we'll have to wait.

What We've All Been Waiting For
erickd20113 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
That was epic. No doubts about it, this was one of the best episodes this season and that's saying something. This season has been phenomenal so far. First off Amara's turning into a very threatening big bad. I wasn't so sure about her in the beginning with the whole little girl thing (we did the whole Lilith schtick already) but the character's really coming into her own. Its going to be interesting to see how her vendetta with God play out 'cause obviously that whole angel smiting was never gonna work. Now onto the nitty gritty-Lucifer. The whole Hannibal-Clarice thing Sam and Luci had going on in this episode was awesome. I couldn't help but hang onto every word. Then the big twist at the end. Luci has been sending Sam the visions. The look on Sam's face said it all.

Pros: Luci and Sam convo

Amara's mission against God

That opening scene

Cons: Where's Castiel?

No mention of Adam and/or Michael

Overall Score: 9.5/10

Amazing
ihyousf26 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am quite a Supernatural fan and I have seen all the seasons twice. Last season was so bad, I thought this show was going to end soon, but this season it has come back really well. It's actually quite amazing for a show to be in its 11th season and still be so interesting and fascinating. The earlier seasons 1 to 5 were my favorite, so it was quite nice to see this episode touch back on that. Very cool to see Lucifer back again, as he was one of my favorite characters. I really liked this episode, but there seems to be one flaw: where was Michael in this episode? Shouldn't he still be in the cage as well? I am also really looking forward to see how the whole Darkness plot is going to develop...

A perfect way to keep us hanging and talking about the show while it goes on break.

Warning: Spoilers
The newest episode of Supernatural "O Brother, Where Art Thou" gives us new points of plot that make the audience wanting more. We learn more about what has been going on with both of the Winchester brothers and see where we may go into the future. Once again, Jared and Jensen are great as the Winchester brothers and show how much they care. We also get the return of fan favorite Lucifer once again played by Mark Pellegrino who is still one of the best villains in T.V. today. He still shows the charm that he had all of those years ago and makes you glad to see him once more. When the episode ends you can't wait to see the next one, then you realize that you have to wait one month to see it and you have a feeling of sadness. This episode shows that the Supernatural crew is still going strong and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

The Dark Prince Returns!
anicool-tiwari1 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. So I don't usually write reviews but after watching this episode I am helplessly bound to be doing this. This episode totally deserves an above 9.6 rating.

The scene of God's big sister and Dean kissing & Sam and the Satan having a chat to be on board. Never thought I'd see the day. Mark Pellegrino undoubtedly gives the best portrayal of Lucifer inside the cage. Although I was a teensy bit disappointed about why Michael wasn't there. Anyway, the entire episode is extremely indulging. Both the scenes featuring The Darkness & Dean as well as Sam & Lucifer will leave you amazed surely if you belong to the Supernatural Fandom. And the ending is such an amazing cliffhanger.

If you haven't watched this episode yet, go do yourselves a favour. This is what I've been waiting for a long time.

this was an amazingly amazing episode .. everything was just perfect .

i wish Micheal was there too to spice things up a little .

damn Lucifer is so manipulative and evil , i love him.

Castiel where are you . at least a scene but its okay i am sure you will have a big role to play in whats next

the angels standing together against the darkness was awesome i actually felt the spiritual presence of them striking her down

Sammy :D you are so stupid but your acting in that scene was marvelous

Dean stop being so dork and give her the talk

God is a very big word . don't ruin the show by making him appear . you will be making a mistake to a lot of religious fans

Lucy! I'm back!!!!
yevettecastro16 October 2021
Lucifer is one of my fave characters because of Mark's Golden performance. I've seen a lot of Lucifer portrayals, but he is by far the best. He can do no wrong. Who would've thought the day when I would be cheering on the devil himself.

Thank God for Lucifer
janedoe530025 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What a tremendous mid-season finale. This is everything Supernatural is supposed to be. The only thing missing was Castiel, but I hardly even noticed that, that's how good it was. This is part review, part summary, so beware that spoilers are a plenty.

The culmination of Sams hell-visions is here, and Dean is reluctantly on board with the idea of seeking out Lucifer in Hell. They consult Crowley about ways to do that without springing Lucifer from the Cage, and in turn he captures Rowena, and they make a "devils bargain", each of them in the hopes that together they can defeat the Darkness. This part feels a bit rushed, and could probably have been made into an episode all in itself, but the season has been so great so far that I don't see any filler episodes being scrapped in favour of this. The rest of the episode is evenly paced though.

Dean faces the Darkness for the first time in her grown form. The mystery of their connection is touched upon, but not completely revealed. Some will argue that Deans vague attempt at stabbing Amara is poor writing, because why on earth would a knife do her any harm at all? I can sympathise with this view, as no direct explanation is offered as to why he would attempt something so ridiculous, and to be honest, lesser Supernatural episodes have handed us these explanations on a silver platter. In this one however, we are rewarded for our intelligence, and insight into the main storyline, and we know instinctively that deep down Dean does not want to hurt Amara, he just wants to believe that he does. This is powerful to watch. What Supernatural has oftentimes lacked, I am sure due to budget concerns, is the ability to make the most immensely powerful creations of the universe feel awe-inspiring enough that we actually respect them. They succeed a couple times, the season 4 angels where pretty badass, Lucifer when played by Mark Pellegrino is continuously elevating to watch (and I'll get back to this don't worry), but most of the time they fail, among the worst examples being the Leviathans, and Purgatory. Amara has been menacing from the very beginning, she is not yet all powerful, but the show has done a great job of hinting at what she might become, and seeing how easily she disposes of the angels, and how indifferent she is to the fact the full force of Heaven is about to unleash their powers and smite her, confirms that she is not to be trifled with. What a great way to leave us with the first cliffhanger of the episode.

The second one comes after yet another brilliant set of scenes, which start with Sam, Crowley and Rowena going to Hell. As is often pointed out, Supernatural is on a family channel and thus Hell can't be the gory, horrifying, vision of terror most of us would probably love, but within the boundaries of "good taste" this vision of hell does provide a few chills. As with any episode including Crowley and Rowena, we suspect a set up, witch makes it even more exciting. They conjure up a cage, Rowena wards it, she reads from the book of the damned, it's surrounded by flames of what I can only assume is holy fire, and then he appears; the best Lucifer to ever grace the screen, Mark Pellegrino. The joy I get from watching this man play this role is similar to watching Al Pacino play Tony Montana, hearing the 20th Century Fox drumroll knowing that the Star Wars theme is just seconds away, putting on my favourite album and turning all the way up. He delivers, every time, including this time. I caught myself rewinding these scenes several times, to rewatch his facial expressions, to see how he goes from playfully sinister to angry and almost unhinged and to wonder why he isn't furious about this whole scheme. All of a sudden Sam is in the cage, and it is revealed what Lucifer has been up to all along.

This all makes for one of the best episodes of the entire series, it's exciting, scary, heartbreaking, full of twists and turns, every performance is nailed, and we are left on the edge of our seats, hardly able to wait for the next chapter. When Sam realises what he has gotten himself into, his faith in God being shattered in a split second, his calm turned to horror and tears coming from his eyes, what a truly heartbreaking piece of television.. If only I hadn't been to busy watching Lucifer chew the scenery to care!

A bit forced but fun to see Lucy again
CubsandCulture14 October 2020
Lucifer is one of the most compelling characters on the show and the writers clearly decided to bring him back because of him being a fan favorite. It was a welcome return and yeah sure Lucy tormenting Sam is always fun. However, how the writers get the parts moving in the same direction is forced and bit lame.

Enjoyable

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this episode. I liked the return of Lucifer. This episode also did a good job of making the audience understand that Amara is a legit threat. Up till now we've only heard about how powerful she is and in this episode we saw it first hand. I never thought God was sending Sam messages and I'm glad that plot thread was resolved.

No Plot
diabase11 December 2015
I'm a die-hard Supernatural fan but this episode was worse than just not worth watching. The entire story would have been better set into a more detailed plot but instead of a good script creating believable characters, the director just has the camera pointed at the actor's faces, requiring the audience to use imagination to fill in all the missing details in this empty story. I like the Supernatural series and know all the characters but I need a story with at least a little depth to it. The whole episode was worse than merely a waste of the resources of the actors and the technology that went into the depiction; this episode completely broke the thread of good story telling that preceded it. I believe this weak link in this season's story arc will disrupt the line so much that it may be impossible to recover interest even with a well written follow-up story. Hopefully this sort of carelessly weak writing will not become commonplace or it may be the doom of this long running series.

Sam is stupid
ragirl-8228110 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Who else has had enough of amara's cleavage. This girl. Seriously I know they didn't have bras before the creation of everything but she is catching up and should look into supportive undergarments. To the producers of supernatural who are actually responsible for her look, you are gross. Moving on to sam's gullibility, really god is sending you instructions on how to capture amara and it involves lucifer. And dean goes along with this plan which involves my least favorite character ever rowena. Good job. I guess they needed a midseason cliff hanger and sam trapped in a cage with lucifer was it. You know I hope he gets tortured, he deserves it. Dean needs to stop making out with amara and kill rowena just to make up for the 5 weeks until the next episode.

Where is god?
nightshiftee16 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
11 seasons in and they still only talk about god.

Are those god's visions?

Does he respond to the darkness, his sister?

They once said he's somewhere on earth and keep bringing him up.

I sure hope they will get it over with and finally reveal him.

This season would be the perfect opportunity wouldn't it? Well... I gave this episode a 9 because of the stunning visuals.

The cell with Lucifer, the wrath of the angels.

Very good execution.

But still, I'm not sure if god ever comes up as I'm only rewatching it now and made it to season 12 or 13 the last time. I'm going to be mad if they bring up everything but god. :D.

Dialogue Heavy
andyodom-275711 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Don't get me wrong, a good episode. But in an episode so dialogue dependent, it starts to feel forced. There are very few locations and then 65% of the episode takes place in only 2. When you have an episode that depends on the dialogue, you can't have 40% of that dialogue sound so....lame. "He is the light. I am the dark" Yes we've heard it before. Lucifer is a great character (not talking at all about the actors here and ifykyk) but his speech was so...old. Why can't Lucifer be something new and developed? He's exactly what you'd expect from his and Amara, even being the new to us, is the same. Nothing in this episode surprises or excites me and that's what I originally loved about Supernatural. I love not knowing how an episode will impact the future or what new creature will be introduced or even just how much I'll simply enjoy it. This episode answers no questions. It is simply exactly what I know will happen but I enjoyed 70% percent of it.

The acting is simple. That's all I have to say on that . It's enjoyable but wow I thought it would be more impactful but instead it's just lame.
