Over four nights in March, Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase at SXSW brought the stars of tomorrow to Austin’s famed Acl Live at the Moody Theater. Each night, the 2,750-seat venue was packed — not just inside, but outside, too. Ahead of the second night’s bill, which was topped by música mexicana superstar Peso Pluma, lines of fans stretched for blocks, including, reportedly, the longest line in SXSW history. (One fan got in line at 4 a.m. for a show that didn’t start for more than...

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” earned the most Oscar nominations of any film at the 2024 Academy Awards with 13, falling short by one of the record for most noms in a single year of 14 that was set by “All About Eve,” “La La Land” and “Titanic.” Its tally includes citations for Best Picture, Director, three for acting and a host of below-the-line categories. See below for a complete list of 2024 Oscar nominations by film.
Nipping at its heels is “Poor Things” with an impressive 11 nominations. The Yorgos Lanthimos film earned nominations in the top categories of Picture, Director, Actress for Emma Stone, Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo but missed out on a second supporting bid for Willem Dafoe. The only other movie that broke double digits is “Killers of the Flower Moon” which scored 10, just like director Martin Scorsese’s recent outing “The Irishman.” Even though it missed out on a Screenplay nomination,...

On January 9, the Art Directors Guild announced the nominees for its 28th annual awards, which will be handed out on February 10. These kudos have a stellar record at previewing the Academy Awards. Over the first 27 years of these prizes, the eventual Oscar winner for Best Production Design has always numbered among the Adg nominees in the various categories.
“Barbie” is the clear frontrunner to win the Oscar for Best Production Design. It reaped a bid in the fantasy film genre with the Adg as did its strongest Oscar rival, “Poor Things.” Two of the other three likeliest Oscar nominees — “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Oppenheimer” — contend in the period picture category. Our fifth pick, “The Color Purple,” was snubbed in that race, which is rounded out by “Asteroid City,” “Maestro” and “Napoleon.”
The other fantasy film nominees are: “The Creator,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Wonka.”

North America Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan Becomes The Only Indian Film Beating Even Oppenheimer To Get #1 Movie Tag In 2023… ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
It looks like it’s Shah Rukh Khan’s box office day today because just after writing about his unmatched stardom in Germany, we’re back with yet another record he created in 2023, and this time it’s North America. Amidst the bundle of many memorable films in the year, Yash Raj Films’ Pathaan became the only Indian film to earn this prestigious record.
Pathaan released on 25th January 2023 when James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water was ruling the American box office. It not only managed to grab a day from it to become the top-grossing domestic movie in North America but also became the only Indian film to do so.

The 2024 Golden Globes nominations have been announced, for a ceremony that will mark the beginning of a new era for the longstanding awards show. After dissolving the scandal-plagued Hollywood Foreign Press Association and being acquired by Penske Media Eldridge, the Golden Globes will return to broadcast airwaves on Sunday, January 7. The show, which is set to air on CBS and stream on Paramount+, will honor the best film and television artistry of 2023.
“Barbie” led the nominations with nine total, including three alone in the Best Song Category. It achieved nods in Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, Best Director for Greta Gerwig, Best Screenplay, and acting noms for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. “Oppenheimer” followed with eight nods, including supporting acting mentions for Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. as well as Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Score, Best Screenplay, and Best Motion Picture, Drama. “Poor Things” then nabbed...

The "Mission: Impossible" film series has an established reputation for upping the ante in numerous ways. For starters, there's that title; as Anthony Hopkins' Swanbeck says in "M:i 2," the tasks undertaken by the Impossible Mission Force are not referred to as "Mission: Difficult." Then there's the bar for stunt work that's constantly being raised by the series' star and producer, Tom Cruise, one that keeps getting higher with each successive entry in the franchise.
All that is to say that it's no surprise to hear that the making of the latest installment, "Dead Reckoning Part One" (if that subtitle is still applicable), involved a lot of dangerous elements. What is a little surprising, however, is that not only were stunt people, actors, sets, props and other things in front of the camera put in danger, but the cameras and footage itself were, too.

When Teezo Touchdown popped up on two songs on Drake’s For All the Dogs — “Amen” and the wild falsetto outro of “7969 Santa” — they were just the latest in a series of high-profile, attention-grabbing guest spots for the Texas-born singer/rapper. That’s him crooning in a cartoonish British accent on “Modern Jam,” one of the best tracks on Travis Scott’s Utopia, and taking the first verse on Lil Yachty’s Tame Impala-like “The Ride” from Let’s Start Here.

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
Movies include “Casper,” “Scarface” and the first two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. New arrivals worth the wait include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” starring Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet among other heavy hitters, “Fair Play” with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich and David Yates’ “Pain Hustlers” starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. There are a few standout new releases on Netflix in October, but it’s a rather quiet month on the world’s most popular streaming service otherwise!
Highlights this month include a brand-new series from Spook Master Mike Flanagan. The Fall of the House of Usher is a gothic tale loosely based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, and tells the story of two extremely unpleasant siblings whose family dynasty ends up going to hell in a handbasket. Before you ask: yes, Rahul Kohli is in it. That’s all that a lot of people need to know here (we’re people).
Elsewhere, Netflix is dropping a few interesting-looking docuseries, including one on football legend David Beckham. It promises to be an “intimate portrait” of Beckham, and the filmmakers were apparently granted unprecedented access to the sportsman and his family while making it.

Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.
To celebrate the new series airing now on weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two, here are a few fun titbits about the show.

“A Million Miles Away” director Alejandra Márquez Abella still has a hard time believing she made a studio feature film.
“I never thought I was going to become a filmmaker,” Márquez Abella told TheWrap shortly after the release of her latest feature — a Prime Video biopic of astronaut Jose Hernandez (Michael Peña), the first migrant farmworker to travel to space. “I never thought I was going to make one film. This is my fourth.”
Her career started over 15 years ago, writing and directing shorts in her native Mexico. And though it was just north across the border, Hollywood seemed very far away.
“I think I’ve crossed through the Hollywood doors, as Jose crossed NASA’s,” Márquez Abella said, drawing comparisons with her film subject, who was rejected to the space program 11 times. “I had to find the confidence in myself to just not die of a panic attack every day.
