Interesting premise sadly wasted
just_in_case22 October 2016
I feel obligated to at least give it a 4 as it was watchable. The premise is interesting, there's an admirable effort to do something at least a little different and there's at least a bit of purpose for having the camera around for once.

That said there's a ton of problems with the film. The main character is an unlikable douchebag from beginning to end. The script was OK, but the way he acted was extremely robotic and so you can tell there's lines that are supposed to be delivered with certain emotional emphasis and he just couldn't do it. Early on when he's told he has an catatonic sister he not only doesn't react at all but shortly after decides he's gonna take care of her, in a house in the woods he's never been to so he can make videos for his school project? It takes a massive sigh to get over that idiotic explanation for getting to "the scary cabin" point in the film. Especially given the circumstances.

Once you get to that point the movie is fairly watchable in an amateur horror film kind of way. I'm guessing that first part is why this is getting such low reviews. The guy really is difficult to watch. There's lot of good amateur horror films that are populated by turds but you can't focus on them and make them "act". The secondary character in the film actually did a pretty decent job with what was given though.

TLDR you're gonna want to pass on this one. It's just a slog.

Disappointed
suridance29 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the movie with a group of friends and we all agreed that it was hard to watch. We weren't a fan of the acting and suspenseful music. The main character acted as if he was reading a book. There is random cursing that wasn't needed. The music seemed to be taken from old horror movies. You'll find yourself questioning why the characters did certain things.

The first half of the movie needs improvement. The twist that happens near the end of the movie helped it but by then we weren't happy with it. I think if the script was tweaked more then it would have been better. Overall I wouldn't recommend it.

Blair Witch Meets The Shining

Watchable low budget movie, as long as you don't expect too much and with an ending is far too predictable!

good idea, terrible movie. don't bother
jerkatron25 October 2016
i don't normally write reviews, especially for pointless movies like this, but i couldn't leave flitz4543 as the only reviewer. saying anyone who disagrees with them must have ulterior motives is just insultingly transparent bullshit. this movie is not good in the least. a cool idea, but really bad script, really bad cinematography, and really bad acting (except one person who doesn't have a ton to do for most of it, but was quite good). the whole movie was lazy clichés and padded time. everything that actually happened happened unconvincingly quickly, like 0 to 60, which is extra lame because so much of the movie is wasted time. so many shots of rocks and clouds and walls, so many scenes of nothing happening, they could have expanded the actual events of the story to fill more time. though i doubt that would have improved the overall quality much

Why do these movies end like this lately?
dupontjg-278-48185511 April 2021
Seriously, it seemed to go pretty well, at least the second half. It had it's suspense going pretty good, until the end....what kind of ending is that? What a stupid movie. Don't watch it, save yourself the time and watch something better.

Supernatural madness
TheLittleSongbird31 May 2018
'I Know You're in There' drew me into seeing it, with a cool poster/cover, an intriguing and quite creative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for horror. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there, made me though apprehensive.

It is sadly however yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws are here present in those films, that to me was incredibly disappointing considering its potential which it doesn't do anywhere near enough with. 'I Know You're in There' is terrible, with a plethora of problems (huge ones too) and doesn't do enough with its potential, which was hardly small. There is very little to recommend, but still a couple of qualities in 'I Know You're in There'.

Lets start with the positives. The scenery is atmospheric and spooky, despite the rather direct to video schlocky way it's shot and edited, it was very clear that the film was made in a rush with no care or enthusiasm.

Best thing about 'I Know You're in There' actually is agreed the performance of a secondary character, not bad at all but with so little to do.

Going on further to the negatives, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it feels vague, under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less scary. Too many characters are too sketchy and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates.

Making the film feel bland and forgettable with not enough heart put into it. The effects are ropy at best, the sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions) and it's best not mentioning the lumbering acting and the excoriatingly irritating lead actor.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace goes to a standstill after the promising opening and drags on forever, never recovering. Found too many the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the supposedly creepy atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense.

A lot of 'I Know You're in There' has underdeveloped plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you jump or shocked are far from creative or scary and are pretty tame. The ending makes the film finish on an incomplete and confused whimper.

There is not enough threat here and what there is of it tends to be used poorly, while the psychological elements are unimaginative and are more odd than scary, completely failing to show any sense of horror. Some badly sagging momentum too. The direction is leaden, got the sense their heart was not in it, and the music doesn't really fit.

Concluding, terrible. 2/10 Bethany Cox

How to make all the wrong decisions
takato052416 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie wasn't terrible. It wasn't great either, but was watchable. The premise/idea was nice. The actors not so much, but it's a low budget and it didn't really bother me. What did bother me was the decision making by the gf. She honestly made every wrong decision possible. Perhaps she had low self esteem and didn't know better? I mean if someone gets too rough with me during sex and covers my mouth like a raping, and I clearly don't like it, I'm not gonna say come back to bed. Hell, I'm not even gonna stay! Or if I'm constantly being yelled and cursed at like a child, you can bet your sweet cheeks I'm out of there. But she stayed. With all the verbal abuse, berating, and weirdness of it all. And I kept hoping she would be killed off. Sadly this was not the case. And in the end she felt she owed him for killing him?! Even tho he was trying to kill her? That's why this gets a 2 star.

Are You Crazy? Am I Crazy?
wandernn1-81-68327426 March 2021
So we start out here with the moving the weird sister into a remote house. And then what we get is a bunch of crazy. Actually the movie is somewhat entertaining as horror movies go these days. But really it wasn't enough. 3/10.

Worth a Watch, but nothing incredibly exceptional
glitterflame897 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This movie deserves higher than a 4.5. The premise is great, there is a good creepy vibe to it, the story is intriguing. But that being said, it does have its issues. It takes awhile to get into, almost everything interesting happens in the last half hour of the film, and nothing is explained, because the film didn't seem to know which way it wanted to twist. I didn't find the acting to be terrible, but I did think the main character was much too unlikable. His girlfriend was much easier to root for than he was. I wouldn't suggest spending the money to buy it, personally, but it is definitely worth the couple of dollars to rent.

New Idea, Poor Execution
twelve-house-books31 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this story is a man finds that he has a catatonic sister, so he decides to become her caretaker and film the whole thing for his school project. So, he removes her from the facility where their mother placed her (before she committed suicide) and temporarily moves into their mother's house near Mt. Shasta, CA, which is now legally his. Things go downhill from there, in a Jack Torrance slow descent into madness kind of way. The girlfriend is the "final girl" who he forces to kill him with an axe. She then becomes the legal guardian of the catatonic sister, the end. Not too impressive, really, though watchable if you have little else to do or if you like indie horror or if you just want to watch two pretty girls act (which was my real reason for watching the whole thing).

Solid horror/thriller......
flitz454323 October 2016
I always start saying that I am not affiliated with anyone. I am just your average horror movie buff searching for a good movie and "I know your in there" is a solid flick. Definitely not a 10 but certainly not a 4.8. I'd say realistically a 6 or maybe 7. The story seemed to be from a book but it was very original. The acting for the most part surprisingly really good.

I am always sceptical when after watching a movie I thought was good has a rating under 5. I think that this movie fell victim to someone with an alternative motive rather than honestly reviewing a movie and contributing honest options. But not to fear this one is more than good.

Creepy with wiggle room
byronhold5 July 2020
Is the girl possessed by an evil spirit? Is her brother insane? I can't tell. Well done and acted. I like that there is no conclusive answer to the many questions that arise in the film. Smart and well done. For those who like ambiguity, highly recommended. For those who want everything explained, skip it.

I know you're in there
nogodnomasters15 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Tom (Will Hurst) has a great life with a great girl friend (Karin Lee) with red bras and wonderful cleavage, not Maria Bartiromo wonderful, but still wonderful. He discovers his estranged mother has committed suicide and he has a catatonic schizophrenic sister, Chloe (Grainne McDermott) who is really just plain catatonic. Rather than just leave her in professional care, he decides to take her back to mom's home and record things for his thesis, whatever that was. The home is in the shadow or area of Mt. Shasta and we hear an Indian legend about evil spirits living in the shadows of the mountains. The stage is set. Mom supposedly killed herself because she was off of her meds. Tom has a bottle demon which he rediscovers while taking care of Chloe. His girlfriend eventually enters the picture.

The film creates the necessary background for a horror thriller. And like nearly every film of this type, things change gears at about 30 minutes into the feature, and goes over-the-top at about an hour. The production gives you ambiguous closure in case they have funding for a sequel.

The nuts and bolts of the film were pretty good and a fair creep factor. We don't know if Tom is crazy, or Chloe is faking. Seasoned viewers might be a little more critical of the formula scenes and dry-humping that passed for a sex. I also thought the facial spit was out of character. All in all it was a watchable rental.

Guide: F-word. Sex? No nudity.
