Starring Jason London and Robert Englund, "Nightworld" is directed by Patricio Valladares. London plays a retired LAPD officer who lives in Bulgaira. He's haunted by nightmares of his ex-wife killing herself, and to try and get him back in the swing of things he's convinced to take mundane job in Sofia as a night watch security guard. He finds the job easy enough but soon suspects that a lot more is occurring that he isn't aware of. Soon enough he's standing up against the ghosts of the dead, with the former head of security (played by Englund) to stop them entering the realm of the living.

While the film is based on a decent concept, its delivery is poor. I think it's the pace of the film which is really the biggest negative - it feels like nothing happens until the last 20 mins, and anything that does happen is really dis-jointed and pointless. Things happen for little reasoning, there isn't much motivation on display, and character development isn't really achieved. It also feels like it's been done before too; it feels like a few of the Hammer House of Horror TV mini-series episodes and I can't quite put my finger on which one. London looks like he's sleepwalked through this; he doesn't come across as convincing, or even bothered. Englund is average at best - I suspect this was pay check rather than the draw of a decent character to portray. As well as having a ever changing bad accent, he's portraying a blind man who can't see TV screens but needs to assess issues while sitting next to it, he can't recognise the direction voices are coming from, but he knows how to hit things with his cane alright. The best acting came from Lorina Kamburova as far as authenticity is concerned. However she also suffers from the pace of the film - one minute she's watching London from a far, the next she's jumping him and tearing her clothes off. I expected a little more depth from her character based on her area of expertise - like maybe she'd be able to translate the symbols on the door!!! Her downfall was being mortally wounded at the end, the delivery of that was actually quite comical. Some of the other acting performances were downright bad, there's one character (watch it and it'll be obvious) who's accent changes from East End London cockney, to Scottish, the American, the Eastern European - all within the same monologue.

The film wasn't terrible, but it's definitely not brilliant either. I pride myself on watching bad movies and B-Movies and I have to be honest, the first 20-30 mins was hard work and boring. I was tempted to switch it off. I stuck with it all the same, and can confirm that the ending was as bad as the start. I don't think I'd watch this again given the choice, and if I were recommending cheesy films to friends, this one wouldn't be on the list of ones to watch. This gets a 3 out of 10 from me - could have been so much better, definitely not much of a horror/thriller film, but not offensive to my senses.

First, I'm being fairly lenient because it's obviously not a big-budget movie. The acting is OK - not painful to watch. Score is OK - not distracting or annoying. Cinematography is OK - about "TV Movie" quality.

My main issue is with the jumbly and non-sensical story (and severe lack of back-story). The movie starts out decently enough - a grieving former policeman decides to take a job as a security guard in a creepy old building to get his mind off of his loss (you're never told *why* his wife took her own life). The opening scenes are very reminiscent of "The Shining" - even down to the job interview. So far, so good. But then things start getting kind of disjointed (what's a dream, what's not) - especially as other characters are introduced. There are some pretty big jumps in the development of relationships that are kind of jarring. The romantic interest (like most of the rest of the plot) feels very forced and doesn't make much sense - especially at the pace it "progresses." It's always a little weird when some young girl (working at a coffee shop) is supposedly attracted to a guy her father's age ...it's like "Hi, great coffee" then 5 minutes later they're ripping each other's clothes off ... WTH? To add to the mix of bizarre, Eglund plays a blind man who instead of using a typical blind-person's delicate cane, he's busy clubbing the crap out of everything in sight with a heavy walking cane - and nobody finds this odd. Then, Eglund's can't seem to locate who he's talking to (not a problem for any blind person I've met) ... and his changing accent ... and then the part where he reacts to the flickering lights - lol.

The focus of the "creepiness" is a mysterious set of doors in the basement of the building (made me think of "The Keep" with Scott Glenn) with some thumping/whooshy/moany sounds coming out of it. Unfortunately, instead of the movie building up tension and getting creepier ... it just became progressively more laughable. Most of the attempts to build tension end up being distracting instead because they don't make any sense. The attempts at "scary" feel more like an old "Twilight Zone" episode in their sophistication and timing.

Overall, "Nightworld" is watchable ... and as long as you're not expecting too much, you won't be disappointed.

Nightworld is about a retired police officer taking a job as a security guard for an apartment building in Bulgaria to keep his mind off what happened with his wife. It turns out that this apartment building is no ordinary building. It contains the portal to the underworld.

All that information that I just laid out for you takes the movie one hour and 18 minutes to present. This movie is super dull. Nothing happens as Jason London wanders around trying to find out about this building. The mystery was obvious from the first time we meet the two overacting business men helping run the place. Scenes drag on until the breaking point. He does some research. He wanders around. Something kind of spooky happens. He does some research. He engages in a wholly unbelievable relationship with a very beautiful cafe girl who is 20 years his junior.

I also have no clue why this movie is called Nightworld. They mention it once but offer no context as to why. It is this big empty room where dead people show up. This is not scary. It is not eerie. I have no clue what this movie was trying to do. Terrible acting and terrible dialogue is running rampant in this film.

Skip this movie. It's garbage. I give this film an F.

NIGHTWORLD is just what the world needs - another cheap, digitally-shot and predictable horror movie made in Bulgaria. This one stars a middle-aged Jason London, virtually unrecognisable from his younger days, playing a washed-up cop turned security guard who takes on a job at an old apartment building that turns out, unsurprisingly, to be haunted. Sadly, hackneyed, cliched jump scenes are the order of the day, alongside a half-baked plot that seems to have been borrowed from the likes of THE SENTINEL and THE BEYOND. Robert Englund does his best in a spooky role and I've always liked London, but this is one of those waste-of-time movies.

I DONT KNOW WHAT IS WORSE, HAVING A BAD MOVIE AND A GREAT ACTOR OR HAVING A GREAT ACTOR AND BAD MOVIE AND PUT THEM TOGETHER, MOVIE SEEMS GOOD AT THE BEGGINING BUT THEN YOU SEE WHEN ZARA IS INJURED BY THE WIFE OF THE MAIN ACTOR HE SHOT THE WIFE AND ZARA GET BLOOD ON HER LEFT SIDE OF THE FACE WHEN THEY START RUNNING NOW ZARA HAS THE BLOOD ON THE RIGHT SIDE....HAHAHAHA how can everybody missed that...??? I like that Robert is in this movie but thats about it lol
