The wonderful world of ASL community

We were moved, enlightened and grateful to experience this movie of the achievements of the hearing impaired. They flourish when they are introduced to ASL and have support from family and friends!

Educational and inspirational!

I found this film to be enlightening and educational in helping me to be better informed about the deaf world. It was also inspirational to hear of the heartache and the acts of faith that this family took to help their daughter "learn how to be deaf," knowing that hearing parents were not equipped to do so. Beautiful story amidst a silent world.

I laughed, cried, and learned.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie is emotionally and intellectually gripping. I have known only a few deaf friends, and I didn't know much about how they made contact with the hearing world. The film was immensely informative about American Sign Language and its role in the education and communication of profoundly deaf people.

I want this movie to be seen by teachers who work with kids and families in other areas of special education as well as teaching the deaf.

The family featured in the film were wonderfully generous in sharing their experiences with all who view the film. It is a rare glimpse into a world we hearing people don't experience.

A beautifully told story

Because my own life story is similar to Rachel's and her family's, I was very interested in seeing this film. I had to get used to the format of narration over simple drawings alternating with the principals speaking, but together they tell the story beautifully. My only regret? That I didn't learn ASL sooner!

A uniquely moving experience

It is challenging to be waked up when I thought I was already awake. That happened for me when I saw "In a Silent World." I was introduced to deaf people--and to hearing people who choose to enter their silent world. Viewing the film was a uniquely moving experience. It inspired and educated me--and prompted me to learn more.
