Left Leaning but Verifiable (in most cases)
mbellwas2 November 2022
Definitely a left leaning view of American politics but most, but not all, of their facts are easy to check and usually correct without much exaggeration. There does seem to be an abnormally high number of bad reviews and most of them read like they were copy and pasted from elsewhere. Do yourself a favor - before you let a good or a bad review sway your opinion go look at the reviewers reviews history. If they gave this film a bad review then see if they reviewed 2000 Mules or Trump Card. If they said this film was one-sided then did they say the same of the other films or are they obviously brigading films perceived to be left or right?

Send in the clowns
Ken_Shaffin23 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler ahead: If you do not know the outcome of the 2016 election already, do not read further. LOL! Watching the last two weeks of the Showtime documentary series on the election, "The Circus" was most informative. We saw the transformation of not only this election cycle but also of the changes of emotion and delusion as the obvious biases of the MSM against Trump and their favor for Hillary, represented by John Heilemann, Mark Halperin, Mark McKinnon and all of their go to friends in the MSM, who made cameo appearances to share and express group think transitions from elation over Trump's foibles to outright anger over Trump's success. It was amazing to watch the election process unfold in the precise manner opposite of the expectations. In other words, "The Circus" clowns documented were the MSM rather than the politicians in the 2016 election.

Great show, Amazon sucks with release dates!
bellacouture1 October 2018
I love this show, it's not too partisan and gives you a concise guide to the previous week (even though I follow politics VERY closely anyway) but it projects politics in a great way! Love the foodie escapades.... like I seriously note the places they go to so I can try! Had a lil raw oyster jealousy when Heilman was with Scaramucci..... just sayin! Lol -GREAT SHOW! Must watch if u like politics and the DC scene and seeing what's going on across our country!

More political propaganda.
rsvp32124 October 2018
There's no discussion, no "other side", just Dem political propaganda show, suspiciously just in time for the elections, along with other similar, new "opinion" shows released over the past week.

Vapid.

Really about 7 stars but 10 to offset the attacks.
seanfromiraq23 March 2020
Look at the dates of the other reviews. Fox News ran an attack piece on The Circus and created a run of reviewers who had never watched the show to claim it was Libral bias. There is a pathetic side which looks at news as anything not calling everything Liberal and using insulting terms for Democrats as being biased. To those reviewers when your news says "More Liberals are..." and talks about that for hours, that is biased. Not attacking Liberals for hours does not make a program Liberal. I am a current and lifelong Republican and I see the story from The Circus as being a very interesting and unbiased look back at the recent political past.

SMART, INFORMATIVE, CAPTURING

I love this show. It goes into the world & minds of both parties. My favorite episode was meeting with a town on the Mexican border in Texas. Surprising that this town works well with people from Mexico, not the hate that is all over social media

By far the most valuable show on the election
jstang41123 July 2016
Most of all you get an inside look into how the whole thing works when the cable news cameras aren't rolling with three incredibly experienced and intelligent campaign wonks as your guides.

And you learn about the people involved. Don't like Bernie's politics, but learned to love the person...and his wife even more. Flipping around, think Donald Jr. will be a force to be reckoned with in the decades to come. Would vote for him for Senate right now. And those are only "for instances."

If you don't have Showtime...think about getting it for a month just to binge watch The Circus. It is that good.

WATCH "ACTIVE MEASURES"
idearz-429-63817517 September 2018
If you really want to know what's going on in The Circus, watch this movie. Everything Mueller knows is revealed in a concise format. You'll be amazed. I wish Heilemann and Wagner would exposé this film. Please do.

The Non-Spin Machine
he881 April 2019
I really get a kick how those who get all their "Facts" from the Right Wing Spin Machine completely freak when they see reality. No! You won't find the fox spin here that supports everything the right does as though directed by god. Now if they stopped with their indignation long enough to actually pay attention...They'd see that the left isn't treated any easier, but then when you have a clown at the head of the right....Of course a show named "The Circus" will spend more time there...

Where's the scrutiny for the current administration?
skitofit1 March 2021
This show spent its entire first season lambasting the previous administration. So far now that Biden is president all it talks about are magical fairytales, and completely ignores things like the governor of New York's S.assault scandal, his deliberate coverup of covid deaths, Biden's failed promises. (Stimulus cheques, student debt forgiveness, working with BLM, just to name a few) and recently his bombing of Syria that his VP was unaware of, came with 5 minutes warning for the Russian troops, and even bypassed a senate committee. None of this is being addressed in this series. The same series that once focused entirely on the negatives of trump.

This is biased propaganda and it's not even being coy about it.

Season 5: Get a front seat to the Democratic 2020 primaries
paul-allaer29 March 2020
"The Circus - Inside the Craziest Political Campaign on Earth" (2020 release; episodes running 30 min. each) is Season 5 of the long-running Showtime documentary series in which we get the inside scope of the latest political happenings. As Episode 1 opens, we are in "Iowa, Two Weeks Before the Caucuses", and it is crunch time for the still large slate of presidential hopefuls. But these are not normal times, as the Trump impeachment trial in the US Senate is about to get started. It requires 3 of the front runners (Sanders, Warren, and Klobuchar) to return to Washington at the most critical juncture. Does it open the door for the other 2 front runners (Biden, Buttigieg)? At this point we are 10 min. into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: by now (Season 5), "The Circus" production team is seemingly a well-oiled machine. The three usual suspects (Alex Wagner, John Heilemann, and Mark McKinnon) are joined this season by Jennifer Palmieri (who advised the Clinton campaign in 2016), as there is so much going on that a 4th person is a godsend. The series continues to be well-served by the seemingly unfettered "all access" to the candidates. The energy is palpable, as these are all political junkies who just live for this stuff. Season 5 runs 9 episodes to date (more or less up to the days following Trump's COVID-19 national emergency declaration). It's unclear whether new episodes will be arriving, given the almost complete standstill of the country as a whole.

I binge-watched all 9 episodes on Showtime On Demand over the last 24 hrs. Even though I obviously knew the outcome of what would happen (covering roughly mid-January to mid-March), it really speaks to the strength of this series that I was absolutely transfixed from start to finish (and hoping for more episodes in due course). If you have any interest in the political process of this country, I'd readily suggest you check this out and draw your own conclusion.

This show eats, breaths, and exists on Trump derangement syndrome.
skitofit3 November 2020
People who watch this show will often be left feeling angry at the disparity between what the show portrays, to actual reality. There seems to be a lack of facts in general when it favours the republicans. Like trumps recent UAE peace deals. Just as most of the reviewers are saying, it is not partisan. It is rather biased, towards left leaning politics. You will never see true investigative journalism on subjects like the Biden laptop for example. and it is doing easily convinced viewers who don't do their own research, a disservice, inciting anger, encouraging riots, & really convincing the viewer demographic of a non existent political emergency. Mainstream media, including mainstream social media, and the entertainment industry really needs to be investigated for how much damage they are doing to people.

A Great Show
bakkogomi8 March 2021
We started binge watching in September 2020 starting from season 1 and we're mesmerized. It was so interesting to see the evolution of the 2016 election and compare it to the 2020 election. It was great to watch it that way.

An informative and fair politics show
sebastian-6905822 November 2021
Despite veering a bit to the left, this show presents todays politics exactly the way they should, fair and non biased. They break down complex and complicated issues for viewers who want to understand todays politics. I personally have found it to be very informative and helpful.

If anything...too impartial.
mlw196628 September 2021
I understand that trying to rehabilitate the extreme right can prove something of a task, especially when so many blindly followed a man whose value system derided all that once made America great, throwing aside norms of common decency and openly questioning democratic process culminating in the shameful attempted coup of January 6th, but sometimes the truth will hurt - The Circus should remove the kid gloves.

Great Show
aguynameddrew2 February 2021
Follows the goings on of American politics. Starts with a 30,000 foot view of an issue then zooms into the ground level with lots of one-on-one interviews by the series hosts.

John Heilman, Alex Wagner and Mark McKinnon are the stars. Well experienced, charismatic, and good at what they do. Jennifer Palmieri was added i think 2 years ago. She has experience working on campaigns and as a media talking head, but zero personality. She's the master of the far off stare with head angled to camera. Zero personality. zzzz

A lot of reviewers make note of a liberal bias and give the show a 1 star. Many of these reviews are clearly trump supporters who don't tolerate any criticism of Dear Leader. One reviewer pointed out that Fox News ran an unflattering piece on The Circus and speculates that many of these 1 star reviews are from people amplifying Fox and seemingly never actually watched the show. It happens unfortunately. Ignore them and judge for yourself.

Left Wing Snoozefest
fasteddie5178 February 2021
This show was hatched during Trump's 2016 campaign. At the outset, it was mildly interesting. But then its devolved into left wing political theater. Not sure why Showtime wants to keep a show that ignores half of the country. This is the same as watching CNN or MSNBC. Its not informative, unique or entertaining. Trump is gone, and so is their central character. Time to revise or put this show out to the curb.

Started Strong, Finished Weak
PoliSciGuy8818 June 2019
I thought the first couple seasons were solid and well-balanced, but as the series went along (particularly with the introduction of Alex Wagner) it became nothing more than a Democrat talking point echo chamber. As an Independent, this evolution was very disappointing.

The move away from balance led the series to make a number of veiled predictions and analyses that, in retrospect, turned out to be comically wrong. Even worse, the series attempted to ridicule and marginalize anyone with a view different than their conventional wisdom which, again, turned out to be mostly wrong.

Overall, a good microcosm of what happens when people/organizations become hyper-partisan. Too bad because this series had a lot of promise.

Incredibly biased view
ninja-turtle26 May 2019
It is very well produced, but every aspect of this show is tilted for the left and against the right. From the way the interviews are conducted, to the comments of the analysts, to even how the crowds at rallies are shot and scored.

Disappointing
mdrummond-3075013 February 2019
The first season was very interesting, and well done. Once season 2 starts it showcases the mental breakdown of biased liberals which was extremely disappointing. An example is the blatant disregard of the Steve Scalise shooting while simultaneously promoting people like Don Lemon as actual journalists. The actual show is more of a circus than anything else.

Started informative, ended like a tabloid
jocelyncohen7 February 2021
What started as a great concept for a show has turned into a circus itself. With Trump long gone and the political scene seemingly balancing itself out, the four hosts are acting more like blowhards just enjoying their commentary versus doing actual journalism. It is more informative to listen to NPR or read the NY Times. By the time this show airs on a Sunday night, it is stale/bloated/and poorly executed. I hope they end at the end of this month because it used to be enjoyable.

Foreigners opinion after watching this
garda-land2000022 November 2021
Well it is clear this show is a love letter to the Democrat party, I mean they have zero and I literally mean zero criticism about Democrats, I mean the USA politics affect the whole globe economy, yet this show does 0 to address the radicalism of the Democrats, and everything they have to say Trump bad Republicans bad, Democrats that don't follow party lines bad...

I wonder which Democrat owns showtime.

Somewhat interesting but incredibly biased.
outpix17 September 2018
It's one thing to make your political beliefs known. It's quite another to misrepresent the facts. Somehow this show has been able to get conservatives to agree to being interviewed and then edited to shreds on the cutting room floor in order to make the case for the liberal side.

You need to remove "non-partisan"
pizzzay9 September 2020
Super biased, they are now an arm of the DNC. We really enjoyed watching your show even up to the point when all of you cried like children after Trump won. You have lost your status as reporters and are now propaganda dealers you have lost sight on why you have become reporters.
