A Man Called Otto (2022)
Well Done Tear Jerker
A well acted and well produced film - especially if you love tear jerkers and are a Tom Hanks fan. Hanks, once again, transforms himself into a character you haven't seen before.
Yes, this movie is a remake of a Swedish film but trying to compare the two is a waste of time. Why not spend your time productively by comparing versions of Annie, King Kong, A Star is Born...
Also, some people will complain about political correctness (pc) and this version not being as good as the original. While the original is good, something gets lost when reading a movie instead of listening to it. Of course, it is well known that people who speak out against political correctness also speak Swedish.
The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth (2016)
Left Leaning but Verifiable (in most cases)
Definitely a left leaning view of American politics but most, but not all, of their facts are easy to check and usually correct without much exaggeration. There does seem to be an abnormally high number of bad reviews and most of them read like they were copy and pasted from elsewhere. Do yourself a favor - before you let a good or a bad review sway your opinion go look at the reviewers reviews history. If they gave this film a bad review then see if they reviewed 2000 Mules or Trump Card. If they said this film was one-sided then did they say the same of the other films or are they obviously brigading films perceived to be left or right?
Descendant (2022)
Interview Descendants Before It's Too Late
This documentary is top notch. As anyone who has ever looked into their family history can tell you, the single most important resource genealogists have available to them is descendants. Many of us remember family stories passed to us from our parents & grandparents and many of those stories were passed to them by their parents & grandparents. In many cases the only historical records available are those stories passed generation to generation. The Christian Bible is a prime example of the importance of those stores passed thru the generations. The first Bible began taking shape about 600 years after the death of Christ so one can reasonably assess that the entire Christian Bible is based on stories passed down from generation to generation to generation. Is it possible that one, or more, of those story tellers might have exaggerated a bit? Probably - Just as the story of Lincoln scribbling the Gettysburg Address on the back of envelope isn't true. It is even possible the person documenting the story exaggerated for some reason - maybe even to make their story more appealing or even to satisfy a financial sponsor as with Washington's cherry tree story. In any case, the slaves brought over on the Clotilda deserve to be remembered and as with the Bible, each of us is free to determine what we believe.
Elvis (2022)
Awesome performance, entertaining movie
As usual, I'm not looking to win a writing job somewhere and I'm not trying to make a political statement.
This movie was entertaining once you adjusted to the unique style and the acting was top notch. I do agree the use of Rap music was odd but I'm not a film maker so what do I know.
Do yourself a favor and check the movie out without the biased presented by many of the reviewers. First, none of the reviewers knew Elvis well enough to say the events portrayed here didn't happen and none of the reviewers know Tom Hanks well enough to verify the craziness spread by certain political groups.
It is very obvious many of the reviewers have not seen this movie.
Occupation: Rainfall (2020)
Entertaining but...
I'm looking for entertainment not oscar winning performances. Having said that I was thinking "7" on this film until the end. What were they thinking?
The Midnight Sky (2020)
What Did I Just Watch?
Watched the entire movie and I have no idea what the point was. I'm thinking someone in the editing bay accidentally pressed the "shuffle" button.
Antebellum (2020)
Ignore the Reviews - This Movie is Entertaining
If you are a frequent visitor to this site then you know that certain types of movies with certain types of casts are always slammed.
With the exception of an exceptionally long dinner scene, Antebellum keeps you entertained and the ending is bit of a surprise. Yes, some people may get a little uncomfortable with the subject matter but the adults in the room will enjoy the movie for what it is - a movie.
Dreamland (2019)
What a Mess!
I am easy to please when it comes to movies but between the over acting and the ridiculous makeup and costumes in this movie I got lost. I'm still not sure what it was supposed to be about.
Loophole (2019)
God Awful
This another one of those movies that takes a great concept, tries to disguise it as a legitimate movie and then destroys the concept with religious propaganda. NOTE: I would have watched the entire movie if it was advertised as what it really is. Anything worth believing in does not require deceit.
