• ETERNAL HARVEST has a rather Lovecraftian premise; a pair of scientists experiment on the dead, trying to find an answer as to whether or not there's an afterlife. One of them successfully manages to establish contact with the spirit of a corpse, speaking to the dead, he questions him on what exactly is there on the other side. The answer seems to be cold, dark and ugly. A nothingness and an unconsciousness, a vacuous sense of void. And in the dark, there seems to be something, waiting to just reap the souls of the dead. The truth proves to be too much for the scientist, who immediately regrets learning too much about the other side. This, like we said feels right up H.P. Lovecraft's alley. There's shades of RE-ANIMATOR and of his Cthulhu mythos. Characters that in their arrogance seek answers to that which is forbidden, the secrets of life and death. And once the answer comes, the truth shatters their minds, their faith, sending them into an existential crisis that leads them into madness. People don't really fear death, but what comes after it, we've been told that we either go to heaven or hell, or we reincarnate, but these are all things we tell ourselves to soot us, for the greatest fear is that there's nothing on the other side. Just pitch black darkness, a void where we are left with nothing but our memories, our regret, or perhaps not even that. Oblivion.

• The script is more about ideas rather than monsters and gore. It's not about jump scares, but rather truths that attack our most primal believes. It makes great use of a single location, with crisp atmospheric cinematography that sells the coldness of the corpses, the pale land of the dead. Fantastic camera work and composition. It's visually attractive without a lot of bells and whistles. The visuals are in the service of the story, but they are also polished enough to elevate the effect that the morgue has on us.

• Overall, a great idea for a short-film. It's lean and focused, with an interesting hook and a very thoughtful philosophical horror.

ETERNAL HARVEST is more about ideas than jump scares, its existential horror for those who wonder if there's life after death.
