Updated: In another sign that shows — even famous ones — can no longer “live forever” on streaming in the new era of media companies re-prioritizing profits, a slew of titles will be leaving Disney-controlled Hulu in the coming days as their license deals expire. For now, there are no plans to renew any of the pacts but that is always a possibility in the future.
‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Bob Newhart Show’
The list of departing series includes 18 series from Disney’s 20th Television, including the David E. Kelley Emmy-winning legal shows Ally McBeal, which the studio had been looking to remake, and The Practice, as well as fellow award-winners The Bob Newhart Show, Hill Street Blues and Arrested Development.
A slew of catalog titles from Fox and Paramount also are impacted, as well as a couple of properties each from Nat Geo and NBC News. Update: The license agreements for several...

For the first time, stars of multiple reality shows on numerous networks are coming together for a new competition series. “All Star Shore,” produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, is set to premiere on Paramount+ on June 29.
The show includes cast members from ABC’s Bachelor Nation, Netflix’s “Love Is Blind,” MTV’s “Jersey Shore,” “Geordie Shore,” “Acapulco Shore” and “Rio Shore;” VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and CBS-turned-Peacock’s “Love Island.”
The cast will live “at the ultimate shore hose” in the Canary Islands and compete in party-style challenges, including “Party Pong” and “Shots and Found,” battling for a cash prize.
The show is the just one way Paramount+ is expanding its reality TV lineup. In February, the streaming service where “The Challenge: All Stars” and “The Real World Homecoming” live, announced that multiple more seasons of “The Challenge” are coming, including spinoffs in Argentina, Australia and the U.

Brazilian hit comedy troupe Porta Dos Fundos, renowned for its irreverent take on the life of Christ in their annual Christmas Specials, is making its first animated special exclusively for streamer Paramount Plus.
The new Paramount Plus Original, titled “Mean Boys,” is written by troupe co-founder Fábio Porchat and co-produced by Vis Americas and Brazilian animation studio, Estricnina.
The move makes sense given that ViacomCBS took a majority stake in Porta dos Fundos in 2017 and co-produced last year’s special with Porta dos Fundos.
“Mean Boys” will give the audience a peek at Jesus’ teenage life before he became Christ as he enrolls in a new high school and, with the help of his pal Lázaro, tries to fit in. “We always wanted to make an animation [film],” said Porchat, adding: “This pandemic turned our desire into a necessity. After all, drawing can’t transmit a virus.” The pandemic continues to...

The MTV Movie and TV Awards are back for the first time since 2019 after the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Scroll down for the complete list of reality nominees, and check out the scripted nominees here.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” is the most nominated reality series with four nominations: Best Competition Series, Best Reality Cast, Best Host (RuPaul Charles), and Best Fight (Kandy Muse vs. Tamisha Iman from “Untucked”). After the arrival of four major new streaming services in late-2019 and early-2020, this year is when the competition is going global.
One of the newest worldwide hopefuls is a Stateside pioneer. Paramount+, the rebranded and reconceived version of CBS All Access, which launched in 2015, is boldly going where the latter service has not gone before. Like its media rivals Disney, WarnerMedia and Discovery, ViacomCBS sees transcending the U.S. as crucial to being able to replace traditional revenue with streaming as a hedge against cord-cutting. By 2024, the company expects to have 65 million to 75 million subscribers (up from 16 million for CBS All Access and Showtime’s Ott service). Total streaming revenue should hit $7 billion to $8 billion.
On March 4, the Paramount+ branding kicked in domestically. At the same time, the service also lit up in 23 other markets — 18 in Latin America, four in the Nordics as well as in Canada. Australia, New...

Continuing Paramount’s immersion in a Svod world, Viacom International Media Networks (Vimn) has confirmed a agreement to add two Svod services – Paramount Plus and Noggin, Nick Jr.’s learning service – to Amazon Prime Video’s lineup in Mexico.
The move comes as, in a separate announcement, as Paramount Channel Latinoamerica confirmed all on Tuesday that its first original series commission, teen sci-fi thriller ”Dani Who?” will bow its pilot episode on Amazon Prime Video on Nov. 8.
The Vimn-Amazon deal will see Viacom finding a powerful Ott outlet in Mexico, currently the most vibrant of Svod markets in Latin America.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer Paramount Plus and Noggin through Prime Video Channels in Mexico,” said Rita Herring, senior vice president of content distribution for Viacom International Media Networks Americas. “Both of these premium services offer extensive, curated content for the whole family and are a perfect...

Univision launched a subscription streaming service to provide on-demand access to its Spanish-language programming and offer content from BBC Studios, Rtve, Televisa, Viacom and others.
The new Svod service, announced this morning at a press briefing, is an extension of Univision’s live streaming service, Univision Now. Existing pay TV subscribers can gain access to the on-demand library for an additional $2.99 a month. New digital subscribers who want access to to Univision’s linear programming and the on-demand content for $7.99.
“Think of it as the epicenter of Spanish-language entertainment – anchored and curated by Univision and bringing together the best titles from around the globe by other leading media companies and content creators,” said Tonia O’Connor, Univision’s chief revenue officer.
Such over-the-top services are increasingly important to networks looking to reach a generation of viewers who may have canceled their cable subscription, or never signed up in the first place.
