In the latest surge of live action adaptations that Netflix seems to lead, either in movie or series format, an essentially forgotten anime and manga from the 90s, was not exactly something that was expected, considering that the rest were based on all time favorites like “One Piece” and “Rurouni Kenshin” for example. It turns out, though, that the manga being one of the best selling of all times played a crucial role, and that is how we ended up with a version of “Yu Yu Hakusho”.

Despite the fact that Asian directors and Western actors (or vice versa) do not seem to always get along very well, at least in terms of the results of their collaborations, the effort to achieve a result that will finally work seems to continue perpetually. As such, it is with great joy to state that John Woo definitely succeeded this time, by including almost every fan-favorite action movie element in the book, in a title that also signals a return to form for the Hk veteran.
Silent Night is screening at Red Sea Film Festival
The paper-thin, ultra-cliched script begins with a man chasing after two cars of opposing gang members, who are just shooting at each other while speeding on the narrow streets of what seems to be an almost dystopian US setting. The result, however, is him getting shot in the throat (among other parts) and rushed to the hospital,...

The combination of going back in time in order to correct past mistakes, as seen initially in “When they Cry” and the delinquent gangs warfare, continues full on in the second season of the anime, with the shonen aspects, however, becoming more intense this time.

After leaving us in an intense cliffhanger, which does highlight, though, that Kisaki is the ultimate villain, Takemichi realizes that the changes he made in the past arc were not enough, and that Toman has still grown into a large-scale crime organization, after absorbing the Black Dragons, and that his friends have still died. As such, he is forced to return to the past once more, where, with the help of Chifuyu who now knows his secret, tries to prevent the Black Dragons from joining the Tokyo Manji gang, which seems to be what...

From the director's statement about the film: The theme of this work is the intersection of religion and technology, specifically focusing on AI (Artificial Intelligence). Through this film, my intention is to inspire viewers to discover their inner strength and confront the challenges of life with courage.
In a world where God has departed, leaving only religion behind, an inexperienced female robot is in a church. Her yearning to leave the outside is hindered by her limited vision and mobility. She walks towards the church's center to install a program that would allow her to expand and learn. After successfully upgrading, she experiences the beauty of an expanded world. Although she attempts to install more programs, her power runs out before she can complete the upgrades, leaving her stranded halfway through her journey. Even so, the beauty of the world and the church's light blesses her.

Back in the day, if someone had tried to convince me to read a pseudo-religious epic with a four-digit page-count and a Deus Ex Machina ending without mentioning that it was penned by Stephen King, I’m pretty sure that I would have done my best to avoid that person (and the book) like the superflu. Luckily for me, I was already an Sk fanatic with a fascination for all things apocalyptic when I first laid hands on an uncut edition of The Stand, and it ended up becoming my absolute favorite novel by the King of horror.
Inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, King’s viral opus was originally meant to bring the mythic scale of fantasy stories to (then) modern-day America, with Christianity replacing Middle Earth’s magical elements and country folk standing in for hobbits and elves. Of course, with the book telling the story of...
