'The Tech Boom' is easily the most absorbing episode of the series because it really does highlight the origins of our lifestyle today. How we work, play and communicate are the developments of paradigm-shits in the '80s; the portable music, the VCR, mobile phone and PC all contributed to things we take for granted every day. This is a nuanced study of a changing time and culture and it doesn't even stop at personal electronics; sure, the Walkman was expected , but the space shuttle? Alas, there's also the Challenger as an emotional workout; on the other hand, I was thrilled to see Apple's "1984" commercial thrown in as well (it's one of my favorites).
Looking back at such an early stage of these devices, it's easy to snicker at how simple life was back then. But this plays things straight, and it's all the better for that.
10/10
