Fun Show That Showcases Diverse Actors
gonzalezveronica9228 February 2021
The show has its hits and misses but when it hits, it does it rather well. I particularly like that the episodes are short (the final season offers much longer run times) so the show gets to the point. It almost gets to the point too fast but all in all, I had to remind myself that this wasn't a big budget production (although I'm sure it cost a pretty penny) and that a lot of story had to be added in its short run times. Due to that, the final season does flow smoother. There are really good takeaways and some horrid performances. The good is Monroe Hayden who holds the whole show. The messages are sweet and insightful. The final season is wonderfully made and almost seems like a different show due to its upgrades. Melanie Tornroth was great but I didn't exactly buy that she was a high schooler. The bad is Steven Acedo who plays Rath. His delivery is so flat to the point where I wasn't even intimidated by him or scared. I really couldn't figure out why Fox couldn't just get rid of him. Jacob Maciel as Alliel was also pretty cringe worthy. He never looked at any of his costars except for Oron in his final scene. He was so unsure of himself, I don't know if it was intentional or just the actor. Overall if you are testing it out, watch the final season. If you don't like that, you won't like the rest of it.

Very Charming
JamesLovesMovies8227 February 2021
I watched the 3-part version with season 2 being part 1, season 3 being part 2 and season 4 being part 3. Although it's not the best show I ever saw, I was truly impressed with what it was able to produce. The quality gets better. Every finale overcomes the last one prior. And the final season is the best in all aspects, writing, editing, music, acting, directing- all of it. If you're unsure about giving it a shot, I'd recommend watching the final season/part. It does stand on its own.

FOX: An Engaging Show
geekphasma1 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! The season moved fast in the most engaging way. It's not your typical slow paced, suspenseful show we get on prime time television. I do believe it's mostly due to the fact that episodes are short so naturally, it would move fast. This is a crackling, fast paced series which needs to be watched episode by episode. I wouldn't call this high art but it's definitely artistic with respects in the right place and I believe that's the point. The show doesn't take itself seriously in the most fun way, it definitely knows what genre it fits under, the demographic of their audience and how they'll most likely be perceived by society.

The performances are flawed at times but it's normal for a first season cast to have that. They're humans after all portraying fictional characters. The directing is awkward at times too but the fast pacing of each episode doesn't let you think it over and sometimes, you forget to breathe. This is a true definition of a thrill ride!

Amazing!
ianbrookes135 October 2017
Sometimes you stumble upon shows or movies on IMDb and they look intriguing so you decide to watch. This was one for me. I found this one night as I was going through Monroe Hayden's profile, and good thing I did because I absolutely love it and her! Its an amazing show and keeps you hooked for every single minute, at least from season 2. I didn't watch season 1 and read I didn't need to. I just cannot wait to find out what happens next! Everything in this show is interconnected. You can't miss a single episode. It so fun to watch and the chemistry between Fox and Daisy is so good, its one of the best duos I've ever seen on screen! Its a shame the actress who played Daisy in season 2 just left but I know whoever they get to replace her will be better and I'm excited for that! The actors were really good too and the music was beautiful! I very much recommend this to everyone.

Entertaining, exciting, and engrossing with a genuine feel of adventure along with excellent performances.
CinemaCelly_736 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It seems nowadays, SkySoft is pretty much transfor, ing into a Goliath of a studio. From purchasing the rights to Robin Hood to releasing 80 to 90% quality entertainment, there is no sign of them slowing down.

It's no doubt that the beginning of where they are today was precisely due to Fox. This show will be remembered as a classic by many. Sure, there are definitely some non-fans out there, but this is pure entertainment from start to finish. Filled with tons of swash-buckling fun, some likeable characters, and a real sense of adventure, here is why I believe Fox will hold up in the future.

Following a hunted, what would constitute as a pirate, in Fox of Auxdra (Monroe Hayden), a confused and love-bound high schooler in Daisy Peterson (now played by Jade Vourkari), and action experienced brotherhood in Oron (Hunter Tabiendo), Deja (Sheana Turner), Davi (Kealoha Nakamura) and Prince Orasmin (Daniel Andrade), this show follows the tropes of classic films in the same genre throughout many years. From the love interest being kidnapped constantly by the main villain (in Rath) to the love triangles on the side (in Fox, Daisy and Mina), there isn't much unpredictability here in the first two seasons, aside from a few clever reveals in the final act. That does change in the final episode of season 3, keep that in mind. Prepare for a mind blowing ending!

From beginning to end, this show finds ways of making this premise feel fresh for a new audience. In my opinion, nearly every character is likeable, which is what makes this show that much more enjoyable. I think Fox (the character) is recognized on a global scale now. Not only is she fun to dress up as, but she has a large presence on-screen and she is the staple that makes this franchise so enjoyable from the get go. Sure, there are eons of stories to tell throughout this world of Ganadans and Dream Demons, but the interaction between Fox and the rest of the characters is truly what makes this film so memorable in my eyes.

Upon multiple viewings, my enjoyment of this show has not diminished one bit. That being said, I can't help but feel the length of this show after repeat viewings. It's not that it becomes stale because it doesn't! - but there are quite a few moments that take their time to tell the story in order to give the audience some time to recuperate from the previous action sequences or in season 3's case, to allow the audience to breathe before a very emotional and/or fight scenes. Due to the amount of surprises throughout the course of this show, I'm still able to forgive the slow moments, because the entertainment value this show has, still trumps all.

At this point in time, October 2018, season 3 is the best of its seasons. (I should also note that season 4 is the final season.) There are a few pacing issues and quite a few cheesy mistakes in its filmmaking, but this really is just a fun family adventure. As a blockbuster, the third installment hits every right note it needs to. It won't be able to please everyone, and newcomers that are a year or two late to the party may not quite be as invested as audiences were from the beginning, but there is no denying that there was a large amount of effort put into making this show fun for all ages.

In the end, the sword fights, plot twists, sense of adventure, and overall impact of this epic adventure are still very present if you are a fan. Newcomers can still find enjoyment here in bingeing the seasons, so yes, Fox comes no less recommended and I believe will still recommended for ages to come.

Very Good!
mirandafields-7200431 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The series was off to a slow start, season 1 I found to be more unnecessary. It serves more as a prequel to explain why Mina Abrams (Allyson Moyer) is after Daisy Peterson and how she serves to help set up the plot and action, but season 2 is levels better. I'd say start with season 2 then go back and watch season 1 if you really want to but it's not really necessary. There are more Easter eggs than anything which why I wouldn't require you to watch the first season. The premise is original and fun, and it seems to get darker as you proceed.

I really like how they give the other characters in Gan Adan some screen time where you can understand them more. Shevan (Terrell Cooper) has a wonderfully written speech in episode 12 of season 2, where he explains Fox's parents and why he follows Rath's command. Rath (Steven Acedo) has a great and eerie speech in the finale and you just end up understanding why they're doing what they're doing. The Fortmount characters aren't exactly great actors. That's my only really negative comment about this. Priscilla, played by Briana Celia and Bethany, played by Jorgie Mason were the only ones in my opinion that did a great job. Melanie Tornroth, could have done better. Yes, there were times where she was great and those scenes were usually with Monroe Hayden who played her love interest, Fox. Together, Melanie was at her best. Their chemistry was oozing off the screen and they sold their kisses. However, she did not do a great job with most of her lines with other actors. There wasn't any feeling in her words and her facial expression stayed the same so there was no indication that she had a soul. Ricky Garcia also needed work at times. He said a lot of his lines so slow that I wanted to sleep. The actors in Gan Adan were very good. There is no doubt that this is Monroe's show. She nailed every scene she was in and took me back by the amount of emotion she was able to bring at the drop of a hat. She played Fox in such a nontraditional way that it was alarming. There were times she was so charming and careless and as the scenes proceeded you could literally see the loneliness the character feels and the weight of being "The Chosen One" getting heavier and heavier. You could tell she voice acted before because her voice would get so soft and breathless in emotional moments and it was absolutely heartbreaking. The best actors by far in this are Monroe Hayden and Terrell Cooper.

Overall, this show is great and I'd share it with my friends and family. Keep an eye on this!

A Beautiful Story of an Epic Life

'Fox' earns its place on the shelf next to the other great love stories the world has ever known. You will need a box of kleenex to get you through the final season.

Impressive
BraveNewMovieStories1 March 2021
A lot of my friends suggested the final season comparing it as the 'Lesbian Version of Game of Thrones'. I wasn't sure what to make of that because that seemed very homophobic or at the very least insulting. No one calls straight shows the straight version of 'such and such'. But I decided to give it a shot. I expected lots of sex, rape and gory fight scenes- you know like Game of Thrones but it doesn't have that at all. I don't know why anyone would compare it to GOT. It does have elements sure but all fantasy mediums share elements. This show is TV-14 and stays true the rating. No sex scenes and no gore. Some people complain there was too much kissing in season 2 but I and a lot of my friends didn't have a problem with it. It was only in one episode. I think anyone who did have a problem with it is slightly homophobic. The story is unoriginal, it's a prophecy story that follows the Hero's Journey construct. But what this show does do differently is add a new community to fulfill that construct. There are only three caucasian's in this show, the rest are People of Color, Black or Biracial. It also has no male lead. The two lead roles are dominated by the actresses who play Fox and Daisy, and those characters are in love with one another. So although it does follow all the tropes, what it does do differently is add a new element that is otherwise not included with the fantasy genre or in most films in mainstream media. That said, there are great things about this show and things that need a bit more work.

The Bad Some of the acting is very poor. The main lead villain, Rath, is one of those actors who debauched the dialogue which in some cases was very questionable. His lines in one episode of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 could have been worked on a bit longer. The actress who plays Merila also sounds very robotic at times but her performance gets so much better by the final season (more on that later). The actor who played Alliel was not convincing to me. He seemed too unsure of himself to be that menacing. His tendency to never look other costars in the eye while also jumbling his lines were very distracting for me. The ADR also didn't match Alliel's mouth at time too most likely due to the actor's inability to get his lines right. In the second and third seasons, Oron was flat with his delivery, almost like the actor was shy to say a lot of his lines or add any type of vocal emphasis. The actress who played Daisy in the second season was also a bit too old to play a senior in high school. The ADR wasn't as accurate in a lot of her scenes, as well. Not her fault but a fault of the overall byproduct. I know the series is rated TV-14 but stab wounds would still pass the rating and it would have been nice to see the ones that were missed in season 3. The actress who played Daisy in seasons 3 and 4, was outshined by her costar who played Fox. Speaking of which there is an actor replacement with the role of Daisy, that bothers me whenever that happens. A lot of hand held shots that are shaky I seasons 2 and 3. I'm not a fan of that type of cinematography. The second season's sound was a bit difficult to pull apart. The first season is not necessary and needed so much work. Don't bother with the first season. Start with season 4, if you like it, chances are you'll like seasons 2 and 3. Some viewers may immediately write the show off due to these things.

The Good The actress who played Fox is the show. She definitely is the stand out actor in the whole thing giving a wonderful range in her performance. Although it would have been nice to see her go further but perhaps if she did, it would outshine the rest of the cast by a mile, throwing off the dynamic. The first actress to play Daisy, the one in season 2, was able to keep up with her and she wasn't outshined but instead an equal partner. I was a little bummed she didn't return. The actress that replaced is not bad and actually seemingly meshes well effortlessly while also looking more of the age requirement to fulfill the role. Her performance also gets better. The actress who plays Merila also blew me away with her emotional range in the final season. It was a beautiful thing to witness her evolution as an actress from season 2 to season 4. The actor who played And was the only male that stood out and actually balanced the star power of the actress played Fox. Both have commanding presences and it was noticeable. Their interaction as their characters was very well executed. The final season is the season to watch as it really brings the production value up. It's a major upgrade and sets itself apart from the seasons prior. The cinematography is much more cinematic. The writing also enhancing by the final season. Season 2 had a much better balance shifting between the two worlds, bringing up tough topics of racism and homophobia, while not shoving it down your throat. It's a nice touch to remind viewers of the realities people face. The final season gets more deeper in the writing with topics like addiction, abortion, rape, miscarriage, death and tragic family dynamics. It also touches the struggles romantic relationships go through without being completely depressing. There are many standout episodes that I applauded for the writing specifically. The VFX are also fair in the series (nothing as bad as Once Upon a Time), in fact there times I didn't realize VFX were used. The sound is great in the final season. The episodes are short, although the final season has more longer runtimes, so you're not sitting down watching something for an hour or bingeing the whole day away. Some people found that due to the shortness of some of the episodes makes the pacing too fast but I disagree. However, due to that, I believe those viewers would benefit from watching season 4, its pacing improves.

All in all this was an impressive contribution to web series.

This show is the real deal!
OsteoMovieFan24 May 2020
Stop what you're doing and watch this show! It's amazing! I watched it as a whole in one full week during this quarantine.

The love story is so moving! The friendships between the characters is so touching! The writing is top grade! The fight scenes are so great! Season 4 really shines and once you see it, you'll understand why. It's almost perfect. Almost!

I'm convinced that Monroe Hayden was born to write this show and play Fox of Auxdra. She outdid herself with every new season and out shined everyone else. She will always be remembered for this and for good reason.

The rest of the cast, particularly the brotherhood, felt like a legit family and close knit of friends. I don't know what they did off screen to help with their dynamic or if they're just really great actors and can't stand each other real life but without them, Fox wouldn't be as great. They all are so different as characters but mesh so well.

Sylvan, Aleel and Anu were the best villains. They all showed different angles of evil and approached it differently. The actor who played Rath was not that great. I found the character to be interesting but the way the actor delivered his lines sometimes was just cringeworthy. I could hear other actors repeat the same lines and make it so much more impactful in my head.

Yes there is a new Daisy for the last two seasons but she fits in well. Both actresses did wonderfully and I can't help but wonder how each of them would do if given the chance to complete the series in all seasons.

My recommendation is to watch this. Watch this many times. It's beautiful and so epic. Fox and Daisy are names that I now put right up there with Romeo and Juliet, Jack and Rose, Ilsa and Rick, Baby and Johnny and Allie and Noah.

It's not all love and kisses either, there's some real storytelling and amazing fight scenes with great editing and cinematography in season 4. The show is simply magnificent and you won't regret watching it.

When I have a child, I will watch this with them.

You Have To Accept It For What It Is
dcgmez_857 January 2017
Before watching Fox, just remember that it is a teenage drama. A lot of things aren't going to meet your expectations. The first season also had a small budget so just remember, you're not exactly watching Game of Thrones. The scale is very small but I hear that changed for season 2.

Season 1 is all about Fox and Mina. I noticed that it's sort of told through Mina's eyes. You don't exactly get answers right away or ever in this season and I feel like that's the point. Who Fox is and where she comes from needs to be a need for the audience to have.

If you want a show for adults, then don't watch it. It's also very short. It's a web series so the episodes tend to be shorter than 20 minutes.

Once I accepted all that, I actually very much enjoyed the storytelling. I have so many questions and the only time this show would be considered bad to me, is if they never answer them but there's a season 2 and according to some of my research, answers are coming. I really found myself getting into it and I thought it was beautiful. But that's just me.

I also like adult- like shows. But this is a great break and a reminder to support filmmakers of all levels not just the big budgeted ones.

Not Bad at All
ChelleKay867 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
May contain spoilers.

The reason I'm writing is because I hear a lot of people complain that they don't get it or that the show is poorly delivered. The season is a bit odd and the show definitely has its problems but with a second season coming, it's pretty clear that the writers are just building up suspense and mystery. From the very beginning, the show is mysterious. No one knows what's going on or where this is taking place until episode 3. Some concepts are odd. Like the whole premise of the Dream World and if it's real or not. The make up needs a little work for one character, Mina. I don't know if it was on purpose but in the end she wore a lot more and it took place two years after the events throughout most of the season. Fox's dirty make up needs to be more realistic but her overall clean look is quite nice.

What's important is the story and the story is not about Fox and Mina, it's about Fox and Daisy. It's not about Mina. However, the season focuses on Mina's friendship with Fox and how that falls apart due to Fox never completely being honest. Xander is an ex lover of Fox's and serves as a foreshadowing future for Mina. My guess is that Mina will be hurting Fox in the future using Daisy.

It's completely unexpected and not a typical teen show. It's not perfect but for what it is, it's pretty good.
