Refreshing comedy depicting social misfits in plastic LA
asgaard-4542417 January 2018
Funny quips between main characters who are socially awkward and trying so desperately to fit in with the plastics. Two charming actors with deadpan delivery, you know they didn't keep it together in Take 1 or 2. Remembering my early 20s and those many inebriated social situations, I connected with the actors immediately and look forward to more episodes.

Fun
adscarrel26 March 2018
For a start I've watched 10 episodes ( not one or 2 , ignore them , why do people bother reviewing so soon? ) anyway it's a grower and every episode is self contained and a different storyline. 2 main characters are s orta shallow and unlikeable to start with, but let em develop. Not drop dropping funny but quirky funny. Produced partly by Andy Sandburg ( Brooklyn 99 ) and , yeah. Goodo

A midwest 7 is an LA 2
drewsterwang16 January 2018
I'm a fan of Little Esther and was really looking forward to this. After the pilot I can't wait for more. It's much better than the trailer makes it seem.

The guest stars were a pretty big deal, considering this is a web show, and they put in awesome performances. A big sticking point for a lot of people is probably the desperation and self-pity of the main characters, but if that doesn't bother you it's perfectly watchable.

The storyline was funny and there was at least one line where I had to pause to finish laughing before continuing. Give it a try.

Take The Whole Network Off The Air
kristienecole12 March 2019
ABC Family/ FreeForm literally hates me and I hate them. Every single time they produce a show that I absolutely fall in love with, they snatch it off the air. Alone Together is the first FreeForm show that I've given a chance in years because I always fear that I'll fall in love with a show only to have it taken away from me.

What do you know??!!! That's EXACTLY what happened with this show. It was funny, quirky, and one of the few shows that FreeForm has that's actually relateable. It was comedy gold. I laughed at this show more than I have at most other "comedies".

You'll keep that piece of trash "Grownish" for comedy but take away one of the best Male and female comedy duos since Carrie and Doug.

I hate you FREEFORM!!!!!

millennial making fun of millennials
JShaft339 March 2018
The show has legitimate and original humor. At times it can seem like the characters are performing a stand up routine that they are trying to force into sitcom dialogue.

Negative reviews are going to more for the style of comedy and not for the quality. This is simply millennials making fun of themselves.

This show is my kind of humor, dry, corny, recent.

Quirky, awkward and very entertaining.
swatman22 June 2018
The show centers on two best friends both equally not fitting in with the superficial Californian society. While one is highly self critical and reflective the other is, at times, almost hilariously unaware of her not fitting in. The jokes are somewhat smart and the dialogues are well thought out making the show a lesser known gem If you were born between 1985 and now, give it a try, as it deals with the strugggles of being born in that exact range.

Wanted to like it, but lacks everything that makes a comedy good.
mcfuzzyhead17 January 2018
After watching the painfully unfunny commercial that Hulu would shove down my throat every commercial segment for 2 weeks straight, I came to hate the show before It was even released. However, I give every show the benefit of the doubt, and wait for the actual release to see how I feel about it. There are several shows that simply have bad marketing and are great on release.

This is not one of those shows. It lacks wit, charm, and any actual humor. It's like someone tried to make an entire show based on "depression humor" often seen online. However, that kind of humor only works online, when used ironically, or when it is used in an actual comedy show, as a stark contrast to its usual upbeat mood.

Compared to many other shows on ABCerr, free-form, it's nice to see a change in style. Their dramas are known for being over-dramatic to the point of being almost funny, and their comedies for being less funny than their dramas. Nobody ever said change was inherently good though. I give the show props for not having a laugh track, but that could be because not even a paid audience would laugh at this. Despite being on free-form, I don't think they are directly responsible for the creation of this show as well, which could explain how different it is, but I'm not here to teach or learn the shows history, just to review the quality, or lack thereof, of the show.

Deadpan humor is one of the laziest routes a show can take if they aren't diligent with their writing and acting, because it often comes off as boring and uninspired. The show could redeem itself if any of the characters were likeable, but the 2 main characters have 0 unique qualities and aren't individually interesting. And all of the side characters are basic cookie-cutter personalities with no personality.

I could go on and on about how boring and uninspired this show is, I can only hope it improves with more episodes. At this point, this show has 2 ways it can go. It could improve and actually get better, or it's projected audience watches it enough to warrant more episodes as its current unfunny state. And if I had to take a guess, the audience is meant to be liberal college students and old people who want to fit in with a younger generation. If there is one thing this show knows how to do, it's to pander to a certain audience. Which is sad, because it's easier to do that than to put actual effort into making a good, respectable show.

I only gave the show 3 stars because I honestly can see the potential In it, but they took the easy way out and tried to pander to an audience instead of actually working to make the show good. It's not too late though, it can always turn itself around. But let's be honest, they usually never do.

Comedic Gold
bryor4 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Rarely do you see a show these days, that has the type of electricity & consistency between two people, that shows the hilarious flow of banter between Esther & Benji. It's flawless, second nature & realistic with this pair! You can honestly see the two of them as best friends (if they aren't already) who complement each other. It's comedic GENIUS!! Lightning in a bottle... please, please, some other network pick this show up!! We need MORE humor like this😁

quirky leads
SnoopyStyle5 November 2018
Esther (Esther Povitsky) and Benji (Benji Aflalo) are platonic self-obsessed awkward best friends in L.A. Benji lives off his arrogant older brother Dean (Chris D'Elia). Esther has delusional goals for herself. The two are perfect together alone.

Esther has the quirkiness locked down. Benji is harder to warm up to but he does have a good chemistry with Esther. The show needs a consistent third star and then a fourth. The best friend is a dud. Chris D'Elia works well but he can only be an intermittent co-star. The show runs out of steam and runs out of time.

This is a comedy?
kluck-225498 September 2018
I think someone forgot to tell the cast and crew that this show is a comedy. They have no jokes and no expressions on their faces. They did bring in Chris D'Elia but even he doesn't do any comedy. Freeform forgot how to make a camedy show.

I think it's funny
aciarleglio-123 July 2020
I think the characters are funny in an honest way. I feel that I actually know someone exactly like Esther, take that back I definitely know Esther . Quirky, cute, funny and not one to conform to the norm. I love people like her that are just funny and think outside the comedic box in everyday life. Real natural sense of humor. The one star reviews here must be from people that just can't watch a show and laugh at other people's perspectives in everyday situations. Not every show has to be an oscar winning genre defining work of art. Shows can be just fun and entertaining and exist!

It's clever and entertaining but directionless
crazelord9 December 2019
If you're looking for a strong plot or admirable characters, this isn't a show for you. It's about self aware narcissistic and directionless millenial dumpster people (pretty sure they decribed themselves as that). It has some really sharp and quick witted comedy

Most episode plots feels more like a general idea to have comedic dialogue and almost an impromptu feel to everything. I really enjoyed the banter between Benji and Esther.

But I can see why other people don't like it.

As annoying as commercial/previews
knmirizarry22 August 2018
I tried to watch this but the two main characters get on my nerves. Mainly stuck up melenials and are just as annoying as the previews. Plus I didn't know this was in the secon season. People must be desperate for tv if this has more than one episode. It's not funny and I found it gave me the biggest headache. I mean who can't keep a job?

The Millennial "Difficult People"
emykdesigns28 September 2018
As a millennial, this show makes me laugh at both itself and myself. The characters, while not believable, are fun caricatures to get to know as the show goes on. It reminds me a lot of "Difficult People", but for a younger demographic. Lighthearted, funny, and a bit ridiculous--wish there was more!

Too good not to watch
cekadah16 March 2018
It's really nice to catch a series that is clever and funny even if you have missed previous episodes. Esther Povitsky and Benji Aflalo have created a show that is pure comedy in each show. Perfectly cast with the characters that the atmosphere of the plot so wants to show!

Little Esther shines so you just can't get enough of her !

I hate to see it come to an end. My hopes are up for a renewal next season!

Season 2 -- Every bit as clever and witty as season 1.

I really wanted to like it...
choralone4219 November 2018
I really wanted to like this show. I really like the character Esther plays on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend but here she is completely unlikable. Same for the other lead. I was not surprised to see Freeform cancel the show after season 2. Hopefully the person who decided to renew the show for a season 2 before season 1 even aired got the axe!

Quirky and Relatable
atimberlake-472182 March 2018
Very funny satirical comedy and extremely relatable, especially to those born in the 90's. Every episode has me laughing and seeing myself and my friends in the characters. Both of the main characters are extremely quirky and real and perhaps that is why some people feel the jokes fall flat? It's supposed to be relatable! The characters aren't over-scripted with outrageous dialogue, they're real people with real conversations and problems! By far one of my favorite shows to watch and I catch up on the new episodes every week.

Depressing conversation, hopeless plot
carrieyupan4 February 2018
I have seen bad tv shows with too much edges, overwhelming storylines, non-sense characters, or affective acting, but this show is the worst I have even seen in my entire life. There is no interesting characters or conversation, no appealing story and no sense of humor as a comedy. I watched the 1st episode and thought "wow, this is hopeless". After a month, I gave it another try, and I could not finish the 2nd episode......If watching tv show is an type of entertainment, this show is literally the murderer of your life.

LOVE THIS SHOW!
ari-996-9538619 February 2018
Very refreshing comedy. The dynamic between the two main characters and their friendship group is fantastic. Odd behavior, ridiculous situations, and quirky expressions/interactions make for a very entertaining 1/2 hour of tv. Just wish all the episodes were available NOW instead of having to wait every week. ;) Just spoiled with on demand. I've introduced this show to several other people who love it as well. This is not a tv show for snobs or for those expecting exceptional acting performances. That's not what this is about.

Alone Together
sumofme29 August 2018
This show looks stupid and annoying. The advertisements they show they're not funny I'm sure people are going to be more dumb after they watch it if they can get through watching the show.
