The body of a young woman is discovered in a bleak place, on the case is John Cardinal.
It's frosty, and I don't just mean the weather, everything about this first part is cold and bleak, the relationships, the crime, and most definitely the characters. I'm not sure about John Cardinal yet, I'm certain hell develop, right now he's aloof, jaded, and very despondent, even his bubbly partner is shunned.
Why has this slipped through the radar? Some good stuff comes out of Canada, but much of it seems to slip past unnoticed. This show deserved to be seen by a larger audience.
I'm reminded of Welsh series Hinterland, the format is very similar, although this is slower paced, deliberately so.
After part one, I wouldn't say I'm thoroughly gripped, it's perhaps not punchy enough, but I'm definitely intrigued.
It's a solid opener. 7/10.
