So very bad
troy-pitts19 July 2024
Even in a world where sharknado and its ilk are made, I find it difficult to believe that someone would invest in and produce this.

The "plot" simultaneously is all over the place and goes absolutely nowhere. It is truly baffling that someone paid for this script and said, "I HAVE to make this".

You may think, "Well at least there must be some decent acting in it". You would be incorrect. Small town theaters provide more convincing performances than anyone involved in this delivers.

It is so very bad that I'm almost convinced that someone in charge decided early on that they were going to go for a Razzie or something.

The movie does not even have enough substance to be considered for a Golden Raspberry.

I've seen better things made by kids with cheap equipment on YouTube.

Alien Road Trip
stevendbeard14 July 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Lumina, starring Rupert Lazarus-Requiem_tv, Disobedience; Eleanor Williams-Halo: Nightfall_tv, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans; Andrea Tivadar-Safe Inside, One Fine Day; Sidney Nicole Rogers-Maya, Astral Mam_tv and Ken Lawson-Benjamin Troubles, Malibu's Most Wanted.

This is a low budget sci_fi movie with sub par effects and aliens, that was filmed in Morocco. Rupert plays a rich playboy that is throwing a party to let all his friends meet his new girlfriend, Eleanor. Andrea and Sidney are among the guests. That night, Eleanor goes out to the swimming pool for a swim and disappears in a flash of light. After reporting everything to the police-with no helpful results-Rupert contacts Ken, his friend that believes in alien abductions. Ken convinces Rupert that they need to find Eleanor before the aliens operate on her-or something worse-and they go to meet a friend Ken met on the dark web. Andrea and Sidney tag along on the alien road trip. The friend is Eric Roberts in a small but humorous cameo. All roads lead to aliens in the desert. There is fighting in and out of the alien ships, where they will run inside one ship and out into the desert before running into another ship and then back outside again. FYI: I looked up the word Lumina and it said, the central cavity of a tubular or hollow structure inside an organism or cell. There is a statement at the end about how many people have been abducted by aliens etc. And there is a scene just after the end credits start that has Eric in it.

It's rated R for language and violence and has a running time of 2 hours.

It's not one that I would buy on DVD. If you want to see it, I'd wait until it's on basic cable or MST3K.

Blinded By The Lights And An Empty Vessel Of A Story
philwmovies24 July 2024
Alien films are tricky because so much has been covered. There is little fertile ground save for the reshuffling of previous material. Here in Lumina, there is a soft effort to make a personal connection between the conspiracy and the characters. However, the film's path is full of never-ending twists in the road, unexpected turns, and revelations that keep the audience more distracted than engaged. By the time the film ends, there is a feeling of being off-balance caused by the rapid surprises and shifts in the narrative.

The biggest challenge for Lumina is the scope of its ambitions. The film tries to spin off into a myriad of directions, ranging from government secrets to alien menaces. These are all valid angles, but the problem lies in the execution, which is sloppy and, at times, distracted. Audiences will likely guess the ending before the end of the first act. The lack of subtlety is to the detriment of the film. While there are some twists, they arrive a little too late to make any real contact.

It is a good movie!!
rawabi-1176716 August 2024
I went to watch this movie 'lumina' in a theatre in Wahington DC. The movie was very good as it's cast was very good, the main chracter tatiana (Eleanor Williams) is very good actor has she was very good in this role, I was amazed to watch this movie I have watched a sci fi movie after a long time which has both good chracters, good story, and good animations. This movie was totally good as I felt that it is not a movie it's all happening in real world, Out of all odds the director, writer, producer Gino McKoy is very good man as it is very difficult in current time to make a sci fi movie during this time.

A Sci-Fi Film That Shines Brightly
kiyewan-7658116 August 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Lumina, directed by Gino McKoy, is a film that stands out in the ever-growing landscape of science fiction cinema. At a time when many sci-fi movies rely heavily on action sequences and special effects, Lumina takes a different approach, offering a story that is as introspective as it is visually stunning. This film is a testament to the power of storytelling in cinema, showing that sci-fi can be more than just a spectacle - it can be a medium for exploring deep philosophical questions about our existence, identity, and reality.

The film's narrative is one of its most compelling aspects. Lumina doesn't spoon-feed its audience with simple answers; instead, it presents a complex and layered story that invites viewers to ponder and interpret its meaning. This approach is refreshing in a genre that sometimes favors straightforward plots over intellectual engagement. McKoy has crafted a story that is rich in symbolism and metaphor, encouraging viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the deeper implications of the narrative.

Visually, Lumina is a masterpiece. The film's cinematography is breathtaking, with each shot carefully composed to create a sense of wonder and otherworldliness. The use of light and color is particularly striking, giving the film a unique visual identity that sets it apart from other sci-fi movies. McKoy's attention to detail is evident in every frame, making Lumina a film that is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the mind.

The performances in Lumina are another highlight. The cast delivers powerful and nuanced performances that bring the film's characters to life. Each actor brings a depth and complexity to their role that helps to ground the film's abstract narrative in real human emotion. This is especially important in a film like Lumina, where the story is more about ideas and concepts than it is about traditional character arcs. The actors' ability to convey the emotional stakes of the story ensures that the audience remains engaged and invested in the narrative.

The pacing of Lumina is deliberate and measured, which may be a challenge for some viewers, especially those who are used to the fast pace of many modern sci-fi films. However, this slower pace is essential to the film's overall impact. It allows the story to unfold naturally, giving the audience time to absorb the film's complex themes and immerse themselves in its world. Lumina is a film that rewards patience, offering a richer and more meaningful experience to those who are willing to take the time to engage with it fully.

One of the most impressive aspects of Lumina is its ability to balance its visual and narrative elements. While the film is undeniably a visual spectacle, with stunning special effects and beautiful cinematography, it never loses sight of its story. The visuals enhance the narrative rather than overshadow it, creating a cohesive and immersive experience. This balance is a testament to McKoy's skill as a director and his commitment to creating a film that is both visually striking and intellectually stimulating.

The soundtrack of Lumina also deserves special mention. The music is atmospheric and haunting, perfectly complementing the film's visuals and adding to its overall mood. The score helps to create a sense of tension and mystery, drawing the audience deeper into the film's world. It's clear that a lot of thought went into the sound design of Lumina, and the result is a soundtrack that enhances the viewing experience without overwhelming it.

In conclusion, Lumina is a remarkable achievement in science fiction cinema. Gino McKoy has crafted a film that is both visually stunning and intellectually challenging, offering a unique and thought-provoking experience. While it may not be for everyone, particularly those who prefer their sci-fi with more action and less introspection, Lumina is a film that will resonate with those who appreciate cinema that challenges the mind as well as the senses. It's a movie that stays with you long after you've watched it, and it's a shining example of what sci-fi can achieve when it's done right.

Review 36: Lumina - A Visually Striking and Intellectually Stimulating Sci-Fi Gem Gino McKoy's Lumina is a film that defies easy categorization, blending science fiction with philosophical inquiry in a way that is both visually striking and intellectually stimulating. It's a film that challenges the viewer to engage with its complex narrative and themes, making it a rewarding experience for those who appreciate a more cerebral approach to cinema.

The story of Lumina is one of its most compelling features. At its core, the film explores themes of consciousness, identity, and the nature of reality - topics that have long fascinated philosophers and scientists alike. McKoy doesn't shy away from these weighty subjects; instead, he weaves them into a narrative that is both engaging and deeply resonant. The film invites viewers to question what they see on screen, encouraging them to think critically about the nature of the world around them. This is a refreshing approach in a genre that sometimes prioritizes action over substance.

Gino McKoy's Lumina is a shining example of what science fiction can achieve when it's handled with care, creativity, and an eye for detail. From the moment the film begins, it's clear that McKoy has a strong vision, one that combines stunning visuals with a narrative that challenges the viewer to think deeply about the nature of reality and existence. This isn't just another sci-fi movie filled with flashy special effects and shallow plotlines. Instead, Lumina offers something much more substantial and thought-provoking. Keep your chin up
It's great to criticize someone's work, and the best part is realizing that constructive criticism is a characteristic of the greats, but it's better to understand that to learn, you have to start first, provided you believe in your work, and that's the case with those who have now become great creatives, and that's the case with Gino as well, who wrote, produced and directed Lumina. He worked it and mastered the lens, and it was the beginning of the journey his predecessors, including. Peter Jackson and James Cameron, and I'm convinced he'll be signing more works and entering the lion's den in the near future.

I have seen lumina and i loved it.
