After the reveal about who Kat's son is was delivered in episode 2, it's interesting to see the writers have taken the show in the remaining episodes.
The answer has been to focus less on Kat (or 'Kathleen' as she is here) and Alfie (oddly underused) and more on the town/its inhabitants.
This is good in a way as it makes the show feel less like a spin-off, and the new characters and their stories are actually quite interesting. It's quite dark at times too, which is fun.
I think though that people expected a Kat and Alfie spin-off to feature Kat and Alfie a bit more heavily though.
