Conductor John Eliot Gardiner revealing the ideological secrets of Beethoven
clanciai19 October 2020
This is not just a film for all music lovers, but anyone who has any idea of music at all should be greatly gratified by this adventurous and turbulent voyage of discovery into one of the most celebrated pieces of music ever made. He will tell you lots about poor deaf Beethoven that you never could have any idea of. And he is the right man to do it, he really goes thoroughly into the caves of the underworld of Beethoven's hidden chambers of his mind, as his thoroughness never denies itself - he has written a 700 pages comprehensive book on Bach. This is more easily digested, as it is only a film and extremely entertaining as such, and the journalist Ian Hislop, who helps both him and you on the way, is a perfect guide - you will find him even looking for Beethoven's unemptied chamber pot under his piano. In brief, this is a perfect music film for education and instruction, you will love it and be stuck by fascination from beginning to end, and you will keep it handy for continuous reference.
