This Voltron is coming together
Fluke_Skywalker18 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Shiro's past as a gladiator in Zarkon's arena comes into play against a deadly Robeast.

Strong episode that slowly begins to flesh out backstories while putting our still gelling heroes in a do or die situation against their greatest foe yet. The final battle between Voltron and its green crew and a powerful Robeast is well handled, with a great payoff in the first use of the iconic Blazing Sword (though never called such). It ends with a jaw dropping revelation with a whole host of future implications.

  • Humor feels a bit more organic here, though I'm not warming to Coran re-imagined as buffoonish comic relief.

It's not the robot, it's the pilots

Not to spoil anything, but this is a solid character-driven story that has revelations for both Shiro and Pidge. And it's handled pretty well. giving the final battle dramatic weight.

If it only had slick fight scenes going for it, you could easily write this off as a one-note show. But I like that they're developing these characters along the way. It's a good team.

The pilots makes it all

Warning: Spoilers
A show that is much more than a boys robot fight show. We get to learn a bit more about the characters and the setting sets that we know this is a story that will be more about the cast than the robot fights. Yes it is a receipe that is a bit monster of the day, but so lovely well made so far that there is no regrets to be add in watching. We get to see some nice relationships moment that shows us how important they are growing to be for each other, a found family. We get to see something from the year Shiro leaved as the champion and that makes a great exposition of story opening before us as we go.

Consistently Bad

Warning: Spoilers
Zarkon's plan is to use a giant robot beast to defeat Voltron, so Zarkon can take possession of the "mightiest weapon in the universe."

Um, if your giant robot defeats Voltron, then your giant robot is the mightiest weapon in the universe.

Princess Generic Euro Ahhhcent lives in a Cahhhhhhhhhstle.

The actor who plays Pidge can't act to save his life. He utters his lines as if he's reading them for the first time.

The generic "champion" sub plot suggests the "champion" attacked Pidge's brother, but then it's shown it was a generic push him out of the way to save him thing.

Voltron has a tough fight with the enemy robot because the heroes don't know how to operate Voltron. Once they figure out how to operate Voltron, although badly, they easily defeat the enemy.

Why did the king have to hide Voltron 10,000 years ago. If a bunch of amateurs can fumble their way to easily defeating the enemy's robot, why couldn't the battle tested Paladins win 10,000 years ago.

Utter

Garbage
