More and More Personal
Hitchcoc21 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The next interview is with a man who has a thing for shoes. They are central in every aspect of his life, beginning when he was five years old. He killed five women and shoes played a part in some way. He is much more in the faces of the two agents. Wendy confronts them, saying they are ruining the study because they are creating things that are not part of the control of the research. They are lying to get him to admit to aberrant behavior. But most importantly, we are witnessing the baggage that each person has. Wendy, when not working, is extremely lonely. She has taken to bringing tuna to a cat that lives somewhere in the wall of the laundry room. Bill and hid wife finally have it out about his job (he should have confided long before this) and his concerns about the little boy. Holden has an uncomfortable moment when Debbie sets up a sexy evening. She puts on a killer negligee and he is repulsed because it "isn't her." There are all sorts of things going on in the heads of these people.

Episode 7

Warning: Spoilers
The show has been okay, but nowhere near the hype that it has received. This episode changed things for me though. The best nutjob of a killer yet with his use of shoes and bizarre behavior, and some good stuff at home too. We're seeing the burden of what this job entails impact the personal life of both agents. I was waiting for that to truly come into play and it did for both male leads.

Definitely the best episode to date.

Emotional intensity
Leofwine_draca22 March 2022
Mostly a characterisation episode but that's fine by me when they do things this well. I think the scenes with the invisible cat were my favourite moments but the emotional intensity is spot on across the board.

Character Development Done Right

Warning: Spoilers
While some of this episode contains content that I usually would just skip. The scene where Ford and Tench encounter Happy Anderson's part for the second time in the is an example of something I usually would just skip in a show. I am usually drawn to movies with more morbid themes and content but struggle with real criminals portrayed in shows other than strictly educational, I can see past that in this show to an extent. Often in shows or movies focusing on catching criminals the relationship of the characters fall apart. This is completely understandable as it seems to be the real outcome, for example Robert Graysmith. In this show, at least up to this episode, I was met with a beautiful change in the scene with Bill and Nancy. When faced with a situation that would be nearly impossible to navigate to anyone, especially a couple under so much stress already, a temporary resolution that I had forgotten was possible happened. Both Bill and Nancy were justifiably on edge and bubbled over. Bill Tench was starting to seem to the viewer as growing to be desensitized like Ford and this was something that Bill was really struggling with. His motives for this desensitization is subtly revealed through his choice of words when comparing the victims to his son and their babysitter in age. While he struggles to articulate his feelings the viewer and his wife are let in to how much he cares by almost trying to take the world on his shoulders to protect others at the cost of himself. When Bill runs out of steam yelling in frustration at his wife she just holds him. The simple unspoken act of holding him says so much and keeps the bridge connecting the couple from breaking. No one could fault them if they fell apart but seeing them just exist as they are without the struggle of life keeps the morbid show from feeling too nihilistic.

Something wrong
febealleman18 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know where to put it, but in minute 26 there is something wrong with the car. The car is in a different place when they get in the car and the moment they start driving (zoom out view). It disturbed me a bit. But part from that, I really loved the series so far. Almost all the episodes could please me. It starts really slow and it doesn't get a lot faster. Most of the time, that bothers me, but not in this case.

Good character development

A very good episode in many ways, character development, acting, and storyline. Interesting to see the toll their work is taking on each person.
