After the Wedding
Tweekums21 July 2018
These comments refer to the whole two part story, not just episode two.

This episode opens with the marriage of Dicte and Bo; they don't get chance to go on honeymoon though as Bo is going on a freelance job in Lebanon. He assures her that it is just a few safe meetings in Beirut but almost inevitably he heads to a dangerous area near the Syrian border and this leads to his car being ambushed and him being taken hostage. Dicte is contacted and the kidnappers demand a ransom of three million US dollars. Dicte doesn't have anywhere near that much money; the Danish state won't deal with such people and as he was working freelance his paper's insurance won't pay. Having asked policeman Wagner for help he starts acting as negotiator to get the price down. After a scare Wagner and Dicte head to Lebanon to pay the ransom... things won't go according to plan.

Season three of this Danish crime drama gets off to a good start here. The story gets off to a fine start with Dicte and Bo's wedding before quickly getting into the action. The main story might not be about a murder but that doesn't mean there is no death and it is tense as one is constantly wondering about Bo's safety. We see that he, and his fellow hostages, aren't being treated well. The episode features a few twists, some aren't too surprising but one is very shocking and will clearly affect future stories. Iben Hjejle does a fine job portraying Dicte's distress at the situation; Dar Salim is solid as Bo and Lars Brygmann really impresses as Wagner. Overall a sold season opener with a good story and tension that rises nicely through the show.

These comments are based on watching the story in Danish with English subtitles.

Startling Conclusion

Warning: Spoilers
Dicte and Wagner go off to Syria with a load of money to pay off the terrorists and get Bo back. Instead of an experienced partner, Wagner is at the mercy of Dicte's emotional outbursts. An intermediary comes in and circumvents their efforts, taking the money and exacerbating the situation. The bad guys want the money and now they need to find the guy who cheated them. Then they do a stupid thing. They guy has a family and wants to escape, so they give him a chunk of the ransom money, meaning they are now short. This eventually leads to Wagner's death. I was astonished to see this happen. There is a terrible confrontation with Bo in the middle and Wagner trying to appease these guys by giving them his watch. It is so sad. The problem is that these guys weren't satisfied with getting 99 percent of the cash. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the next episodes.
