A Strong Finish to A Strong Season, the Most Underrated TV Show on Air
DesmondQu24 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
As a huge TV junkie, I watch pretty much all the shows, to be honest, I didn't even start to watch this show until 2 month ago, all the negative reviews swayed me away, then I finally ran out of shows to watch, I decided to watch and judge it for myself, the pilot and the following episode made me go "meh, I guess the critics were right, this is a dumb teen drama", little did I know, things sure do escalated fast after episode 3, it turned around 180%, I skipped work and binge watched the entire 3 seasons + aired season 4 within a week, I was captivated the entire time.

The plots are addictive and unpredictable, the pacing is just so snappy and fast, costume design is top-notch, set pieces are always on point, excellent background music even though sometimes the song choices can be a bit too mainstream pop, SFX is impressive especially considering their budget is very limited comparing to sci-fi shows like Westworld, and most importantly, this show constantly improves itself season by season unlike most TV shows that peaked in Season 1.

This is a character driven show, you can feel the suffering, the tenacity, the growth and the development of those characters, no character is your stereotypical hero or villain, everyone is complex and got their own flaws and strengths, everyone has made tons of mistakes just like people in real life. In the beginning of season 1 the young actors were so green and inexperienced, but episode by episode they all grew into convincing and amazing performers. In season 1 I was all "this is ridiculous, realistically there is no way they can survive environments like that", by the end of season 2 I was tearing up "you pull that lever Clarke, you are a survivor", this is the only show that can make me support a genocide. Clarke, Octavia, Bellamy, Kane and Murphy are my favorite characters, I've been enjoying Henry's performances since Lost and I hope his new role in Inhumans wont put an end to Kane. For people saying there is no way people will follow a teen leader, you do know Alexander the Great started to rule when he was only 16, 18-year-old Augustus led 3,000 veteran troops into Rome.... Our entire history is filled with exceptional teenage leaders.

The 100 is a brutal show about what people would do for survival, its not a standard sunshine and rainbow filtered TV drama, you think Game of Thrones is ruthless? This show killed their version of Khaleesi with a stray bullet out of nowhere, it sounds anticlimactic but it's actually in consistent with reality since a lot of great leaders in history did die in some pretty random ways. This show is basically what Game of Thrones and Fallout 4 had a children would be like, and that kid is on cocaine this season, in a good way....

The actors have aged 5 years since season 1, it makes prefect sense for a major time jump to bridge the gaps, not to mention it opens up unlimited character exploration possibilities on their growth. The idea of surviving Praimfaya by going back into space is genius, the circle of life for our adventurers; Bellamy honored Clarke's advice and followed his head instead of his heart by leaving Clarke behind; Nightblood adult Clarke is awesome, the experience of surviving in Praimfaya for years should make her a even better leader, also Clarke has became a motherly figure for a nightblood kid, the maternal role suits her character so well, it already made me feel attached to the new girl, the writers should take this opportunity to make a proper The Last of Us-esque episode about how they met and kept each other alive for years. The dynamic in the bunker is very interesting, trapping 1200 cranky people into a small space for 6 years, what could go wrong? I foresee betrayal and bloodbath in that bunker. I definitely did not see that prisoner transport ship coming, the prisoners probably already overthrown the guards a long time ago, now the Skycrew and the 12 clans are the new grounders, and the prisoners are the new sky people, Bellamy's little group should be on that ship as well since themselves don't really have a way back, a prisoner transport ship should have way more advanced weaponry than Skycrew (civilian ships), season 5 is going to be brutal, I cant wait.

PS For people who work for the show, now is the perfect time for you guys to recreate the world, for example more environmental hazards like acid rain, maybe nuclear winter style ash fall once a while, or extreme heatwaves during noon, or metal levitating electromagnetic fields, or sandstorm that can cut through skin like knives, or make the air look thicker during the night like the upside down from Stranger Things etc. Also a few mutated animals/beasts could be fascinating.

Awesome so far, but I'm worried...

Warning: Spoilers
Up until season 3, this show had been extremely solid, consistent and coherent. Every time a new group of people, a new villain, a new place, etc, was introduced, it served to explain the background of the story, and it fit perfectly within the universe that they had created in the very first episodes.

In the finale of S01, we get introduced to another civilized group (the mountain men), which explains what happened to the bunker that they were seeking in the first place.

In S02, we get introduced to the 12 Clans and the Coalition (which gives context to how many people have survived, and what their societies are really like). We also get introduced, near the end of the season, to ALIE (which later completes the story of how the nuclear apocalypse happened in the first place).

In S03, we get explanations for the origin of ALIE, and why she's created the City of Light, which leads into the main problem of S04: the nuclear power plants.

Up until that point, everything fit perfectly, and everything felt like it had been part of the story from the beginning. On S04, however, we receive the cult of the Second Dawn, which is completely new and doesn't seem to serve any purpose other than putting up a bunker that can save our characters again. I forgive that though, because they sort of linked them to the survival of humanity with Becca (and they should expand on that).

Then, at the very end, we get this weird prison ship from space. Sorry, but it seemed pretty clear the whole time that ALL the people who were in space during the nuclear bombings had become part of the Ark. Adding this there, without even mentioning at any previous point that there were other space stations out there, feels cheap.

In an interview, Rothenberg confessed that he doesn't even know if he'll end the show next season, and that those are "business decisions that are made financially and not creatively". I'm currently concerned that they'll keep stretching out the show with cheap writing tricks, thereby treating this great story like a soap-opera: it will only end when they've made it so boring that no one will watch it anymore. All good stories need a good ending, and this one deserves to get a great conclusion on SEASON 5. There's very little left to be explained from the initial overarching plot, and I hate never-ending soap-operas. It's part of the reason I stopped watching The Walking Dead, and why I hated Lost.

May we meet again.

Warning: Spoilers
An intense episode for one of the best seasons.

The 100 demonstrated that a show can be better through the years, and this season was the prove of that. The season 4 is full of amazing moments, with strong characters and a lot of shocking revelations.

The previous episode was quite surprising at the end, and this episode comes with the outcome.

The episode got me screaming in every minute, waiting to see if our favorite characters were saved or not (you never know in The 100), so I'm glad that everyone make it finally.

The flash forward was very a need for the show, but I want to see more of the past 6 years.

I love the end, with Clarke in the Rover and talking to Bellamy, and I really want to know who's the little girl and who are the people of the ship.

+ Bellarke moments.

+ Raven and Octavia.

+ Monty and Murphy working together.

+ End.

+ I need to know more about the 6 years.

+ What happened with the bunker and the Ark in the past 6 years?

  • I don't mind much about Echo, although I enjoyed her talk with Bellamy.

My Fight is Over

Warning: Spoilers
What starts at a gradual pace, quickly escalates into a run for survival. Even if that means leaving someone behind. The show has always been centered on the premise of survival and in the epic season finale we see the lengths they are willing to go to. I'm going to be honest the episode was average, but the ending. I'm going to say perfect. I know, That might be a bit far but to see Clarke at peace in this show, it was like a moment we've been waiting for since the beginning. Even if it was short lived. I relished every second of it. The prison transport was a nice twist. Also who was the night blood next to Clarke? Questions that will be answered in the next season I suppose.

I gotta give credit to these actors they've really flushed out these characters. In particular Eliza Taylor, I might be biased though, Clarke has been my favorite character since the beginning. I don't know if I could say this was my favorite episode because there were a lot of great(not a term I use loosely) episodes this season. Although in my opinion this was the best ending in the series. I look forward to the adventures that await us in the future.

6 Years and 7 Days Later

Warning: Spoilers
The Space crew struggles to make it on space on time. Clarke sacrifies herself for the group, and Bellamy takes up the lead!

6 years later, Eligius IV arrived in the valley.

Fun Fact: Jackson mentioned eligius missions in season 4 as they were looking for nightblood recipes right before Raven had her first seizure

Clark survived because she is Black Blood. She knows that!
Neptune1654 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of people forget that Clarke was extremely intelligent, in the early seasons it's mentioned that she got fairly good grades in her classes on the Ark. One of my Favorite episodes of the series! So suspenseful and entertaining to watch. Becca's lab is air, heat, radiation sealed air-blast shelter, built to withstand a space rocket launch, don't need to be a nightblood to survive inside, but it's too small to sustain more people on longer period of time, and that's how Clarke "sacrificed herself"(got screwed over by tech issues against her will)but NOT sacrificed herself at all, and again. As for later(few days/weeks after); nightblood kept her alive, same as Madi, who must've been located at no-blast area(A. L. I. E. said that ~96% of Earth's surface will get hit)during initial hit. I just love how they think clark might die. It shows how a casual viewer watches this episode not knowing what happens next. All the actors said that the suits were HORRIBLE to shoot with. They were sweating all over the place. It's interesting to see how the show started with the delinquents prisoners being the group that came out of the sky and this time it is another prisoner group. Clarke and Madi both survived because they're both nightbloods . Apparently Clarke's resistance to radiation kicked in and Madi managed to survive because the it's impact failed to reach the valley ,where she was living which will be explained in the next episode. Great finale and the best thing about this show is it just gets better.

Rain of death
tenshi_ippikiookami22 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The last episode of "The 100"'s season four delivers a great ending for the themes of the season as the same time as setting a very interesting and full of potential start for the next season. It does all of it in a thrilling manner, with lots of grip-your-armrests moments and using the show's best ace: the characters.

If Clarke, Bellamy or Monty want to survive, they will have to get back to the ark. Will they? Countdowns are great if used in a smart way and the episode does a very smart use of the seen-a-million-times we-are-running-out-of-time plot set up. The setting is really good, all the characters get their moment, as the Monty Vs. Murphy one, and the tension raises non-stop till the ending, when Clarke decides to stay behind to help everyone else survive. In "Praimfaya" the plot shows how to develop characters and give them their moment to shine, at the same time as treating the viewer as smart beings, not hiding information or insulting their intelligence.

The time jump at the end is not particularly original (and probably expected by all the viewers) but raises some interesting questions: Clarke is alive, but she hasn't heard from anyone in more than six years (when they were supposed to be back in 5, from up on the ark or from the bunker). And the last twist: a strange prison ship appears: are Bellamy and others there? Some new threat?

"Praimfaya is the perfect ending for the season.

Finale tells us that next season is going to be awesome. Last 3-4mins was the best. Although I didn't like this season, this one was great. Next one will be so good :) I will be waiting for the next season! I hope the new characters do good with this TV series. I don't want them to ruin it

Kept me wanting more!
ryanmarkdante31 May 2017
Wow! I have to say this episode was really great. A great season finale. I thought they would wrap everything in the end with a happy ending, but boy I was wrong. The grounders went to live deeper as 1 clan and Clark's friends go back to where it all began. I wonder who the little kids Daddy is? :) Anyway, next season looks to be as action packed as everything we've seen so far. So great way to end the season and looking forward to next one. Cheers guys.

I'll pass on S5
ishipbadasschicks27 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The 100 has had a problem with continuity and realism for several seasons. The people continuing to watch are not here for the plot they likely have a favorite character they're invested in.

And I can say, the things they like about that character...were most likely created by accident.

It seems the writers stumbled into some amazing characters like raven-- who was initially introduced as a plot device. To sleep with Bellamy and then die. Then they discovered people love Lindsey and consider her great rep for disabled and POC viewers. Like Octavia who was initially a stepping stone character.

OTHER characters who came to life because if the actors and fans who found something in then the writers could exploit.. Like clarke. And lexa. And Lincoln.. And others.

The problem is, they threw away all of the character development that they made over the first 2 seasons for the AI Plot of s3 which was neither groundbreaking nor original. They veered from what made these characters original and human by making asinine out of character Decisions and unbelievable actions.

Can the writer write their own character as OOC? yes, by ignoring all the previous writing, and refusing to let their characters evolve naturally like people, instead of plot devices.

Maybe this is the result of so many writers splitting off to write individual episodes.. I don't know.

The writers threw away characters and opportunities for a plot that they've now also thrown away.

So what was the point?

Why explore the ground and delve into the culture only to murder everyone and completely erase everything we learned about them? Nia could have been an amazing villain. Ontari and the night bloods conclave could have been riveting. Bellamy rising up to overthrow pike.. Clarke and Lexa trying to lead on opposite sides of a civil war? The opportunities there... Wasted.

****spoiler****** in S5 they are reverting to s1. They've turned the remaining 100 into the grounders and the new ship emerging from the sky will be the new skykru.

They murdered the natives to replaced them with their colonial conquerors.

There are so many problems with this show and despite the ugly ship wars I think some of the biggest are racial relations, xenophobia, and homophobia within the show. I would also say continuity, you can only suspend belief so far. When you set up the rules of a post apocalyptic world, you have to abide by them.

Does the walking dead have dragons flying around in the middle of s4?

Does Game of thrones randomly have military airplanes in some episodes?

Did katnis everdeen rise from the ocean with a trident and strike down the capital with lightning?

No. Because it wouldn't make sense for the world that was built.

Anyways, I won't be watching next season

S4 finale Warning: Spoilers
Very good final episode and by far and away the best of the 4th series. Prison ship could easily be jut Bellamy and co. returning as they struggled to find a solution to return and came across an old ark prisoner ship and used that as a safer return method. The 100 were just some of the prisoners not all so who knows it could be more Ark or other Ark types prisoners on the ship.

S5 will be interesting and no doubt have early on flash back episodes or segments covering the 6 years.

Hope to establish

  • what happened in the bunker and did / can they get out seeing the Clarke radio to Bellamy conversation highlighting she cannot reach them or get them out

  • what happened to Bellamy and co.

  • where the young girl came from she seems familiar

  • have there been other space ship housed survivors all along

  • why we stopped seeing mutated creatures like we did a lot in s1 such as the water creature that attacked Octavia or the mutated faced deer Clarke saw

  • what happened to any underground living people or creatures outside of Octavian Oncrew bunker

Should be a great potential for S5 to continue in strong form of S4 final episode

I loved all The 100 finales, but this was BY FAR the best one
Neptune1654 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Remember back in season one when you hated Murphy and weren't even sure if you liked Bellamy.. how the world has changed. I don't think is aliens for a very simple reason: the thins on the ship are written in English. So I think is just another group that were send to space a long time ago. Imagine waiting a year to see what happened next. The hardest part of the hiatus for me wasn't wondering who was on the ship, but rather wondering how and when the hell Bellamy and Clarke would be reunited! But I got to meet Bob and Eliza (third time for Eliza) over hiatus, so that made it a lot more bearable, lol.
