Really poor

Just not worth the watch. Really poor acting! It didn't make sense, the characters were stupid and the plot was boring.

Gorgeous snow scenery
okpilak24 January 2024
A whodunit in a snowy setting. It is not a great scenario, but the setting really is were all the flaws are present. The snow scenery is great. Five people, all naked, suddenly waken at the same time, and rush to a cabin where there is a roaring fire. On the mantle are stockings with their names on it, and in the stockings are their underwear. The were drugged, placed on the snow naked, yet here were no footprints around them. In the cold air, one did not see their breaths. They all knew where to run to the cabin. They all should have been dead of hypothermia. And later, Lisa wanders off to try and find help, having on stockings on her feet, and a light covering, and after wandering for 'miles', she winds up going in a circle. And even though she drags snow in on her socks to the fireplace in the cabin, that snow doesn't melt quickly, not did her breath show on the wandering. So give credit to the special effects people to try and make it look like what they did was real. They find a naked dead body upstairs, and when they come back down, there is a note tied to a rock telling them they have until 5 o'clock to discover who killed her, or suffer they all will suffer consequences. They had all attended the same erotic party thrown by Jerome, and were all drugged. In flashbacks, they show them at the party, which seems a very dull party. And one soon doesn't care about any of them.

Great plot; terrible execution!
ThirtySecondsToGemma20 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Snowbound; a movie about a group of strangers waking up naked outside a cabin in the freezing cold snow. When they enter the house they stumble across a dead body.

They are left cryptic clues by an unknown man and they have to work out who the person is and what they want.

Spoilers from now on.

I completely understand the message the movie is trying to convey.

It's a statement about how as people we are all being watched/led by a darkness that's inside us. A darkness that can be pushed into doing something we don't want to but have been manipulated into.

In the movie, the strangers are led to an solution of acting out all of the actions they did to the dead woman in order to survive.

It shows how people will do anything to look after themselves and not help each other.

We watch how each character is being led by their darkness. They read their clue left by the mysterious man, have a flashback and reach a conclusion of what was said above; hurting someone else to survive.

Once they realise that they had messed up and made a mistake; they run away. People run away from their problems and secrets in life in order to bury their head and forget about it. Even something so serious as what they did to the woman.

The only issue is, they're marketing this as a horror movie; which it's not.

They didn't make the story have a pace that it needed, they rushed parts and dragged parts out.

They should have made it more of a secret as to who was leaving the clues, I feel like they didn't need to have a man with a face. Imagine it never showed his face, every time he was on screen it was just a black hole of emptiness.

Our darkness inside us doesn't have a face because we never see it.

That would have made it a little more mysterious.

They also needed to have something worse than what they did to the dead woman. Don't get me wrong; what they did was sick, but they needed a more sinister act to which each person acted out maliciously towards the woman.

For example, picture this;

The woman died as a result of each member thinking they killed her every time.

Someone could have been too rough with her and thought she died so they ran out. Then another character could come in and help her, lifting her up and out of the swing and when she came around, she thought the person helping her was the one that was too rough with her and she started attacking them. The person could then try to calm her down but end up strangling her and running away thinking she was dead. Another character could have been high on hallucinogenic's and came into the room thinking she was some sort of 'monster' and they stab her; thinking they killed her.

So then each character would think they each killed her, they could then have each of them trying to hide it from eachother because they know they would get killed. Imagine all of them trying to hide what they had done and pushing the blame onto others. It would be a good movie. It would be thrilling.

Then when they realise they were all responsible and know that no one knows who actually killed her because they don't know the order they attacked her in, they all start fighting over who they pick. People could even start attacking others to put an end to it.

That would have been so much better.

I award this movie; a small popcorn

a different kind of " thriller"
dorotheameijer13 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I wonder how movies get categorized ... this is a thriller.. well it might give some a thrill..

Having said that , this is a B movie poor script , poor acting and you are not to expect the feelings you could expect watching a real thriller

thought some B movies are actually pretty good, this one, maybe because of expectation of it being a thriller, did not move me in any way

VIEWS ON FILM review of Snowbound
burlesonjesse512 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
2017's Snowbound is definitely about the snow, what with all the overhead shots and caps of an icy, wintry wonderland. Too bad the film is also about being a lousy version of Saw, where people awaken in an unknown area and don't know how they got there. Oh and some evil dude is involving said people in a deadly game of survival. Snowbound's opening scene, well it's a revealing doozy. The main characters are naked, lying in frozen water vapor after being drugged and knocked out for the entire night. Director Olia Operina obviously didn't think things through however. I mean everyone would've been dead from some form of hypothermia, guaranteed.

Distributed by Lighthouse Home Entertainment, having a coda that runs out of wiggle room, and containing a lot of pretentious, thriller mumbo jumbo, Snowbound establishes tension early on only to have it dissipate into momentum-free flashbacks and bad acting from a villain that's got a real hard on for voodoo dolls. Helmer Operina, well she puts her personas in a cabin via the middle of nowhere. They don't know each other from Adam and find a dead girl (also naked) upstairs. They must figure out who killed her and kill one of each other or they'll all be killed. Uh, was Tobin Bell in on the production meetings?

In retrospect, Snowbound has a decent look but it's obviously low budgeted. I mean it's evident in the sparse set locations, the casting of unknown actors, and the lack of blood and butchery. Olia Operina could've taken these constraints and left you with your knees knocking but I digress. She isn't interested in creeping you out or baiting the suspense out of you. No Olia would rather take Snowbound and make it assertively avant garde and/or something art house. Um, only Stanley Kubrick was able to pull that off with Jack Nicholson sweetie. "Snow blind".

$h!tbound
lastsonnofkrypton21 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
By looking at the names in the credits, it's clear this is a foreign film made for an English-speaking audience. It's no excuse, however, for the piece of garbage I just watched. About the only thing this movie has going for it is boobies. Everything else about it is just awful.

Acting = terrible Dialogue = horrible Music = janky Cinematography = amateur Story = bad bad bad, by far the worst part

Nothing in this movie made sense. Why were they left naked in the woods? How did the party host get them all out there in middle of a GIANT forest so fast? How did he leave no tracks from where he deposited them? Was he watching them from a secret room? Hole in the wall? Attic? Basement? What was with the little voodoo dolls, that did nothing? Was he just making a diorama? Most importantly, why did they choose such a terrible actor for the main bad guy? His line delivery was just god-awful, in every scene. And the ending makes no sense. So the chick didn't die? Where are they all trying to walk to? Why didn't they just run away from the beginning? I don't get it at all. This whole movie is a head-scratcher. Don't waste your time.

2/10, for the many boobies. No way would I watch again.

Cabin in the snow
kosmasp24 July 2022
There is a good movie here - it may be buried under a lot of snow (no pun intended and no drug innuendo meant). The running time seems to be an object of discussion - but I don't think I watched a cut version of the movie.

There is nudity and there is blood and mayhem of sorts. Though nothing too much - I think the movie never intended to go full Saw or even Cube (the latter being a more apt comparison) ... you could compare it with other horror movie (franchises) too of course.

But there is not enough juice to keep it as interesting as many of the other efforts have. I've seen worse movies, especially when it comes to cinematography. But maybe that is not something you care about.

Plot twists and a surprise ending
ckeyta28 November 2019
I enjoyed watching this movie. The cast is great, I loved the performance by Anya Bay, fantastic cinematography and production design. Sex, murder, and mystery - yes common. However, there are a few unpredictable plot twists and turns throughout the movie, but I'm not going to go into detail. It also has a surprise ending. I would definitely recommend this movie!

Creative Fantasy in the Snow
dareivers-130 April 2020
The opening sequences of Snowbound draws you and then takes you on fantasy ride. The movie creatively combines reality, fantasy, suspense, and mystery to tell a unique story. There are some really good performances, even though I think some of the main characters could have been developed more, but it doesn't take away from the plots surprising twist and turns along the way. It's actually beautifully shot which enhanced the viewing pleasure for me. I don't really want to give away more of the movie than what is given in the synopsis, but I do think Snowbound is worthy movie to be watched.

Escape room meets scary meets sexy
mplejsek4 May 2020
Stuck at home during coronavirus has enabled me to explore more films and I am so glad I had this extra time because I found this gem! I love a good suspense thriller and this one certainly delivers. The visually stunning opening really drew me in and the mystery to follow kept me engaged. The directing was clean and the actors did a great job!

Puppetmaster Noir
sheridan-105722 June 2018
This movie isn't really a thriller or mystery, but more of a Chekhovian allegory about friends and colleagues who lose their way and become "snowblind" to the darkness enveloping them -- a metaphor for today's social and political environment where we are all puppets, both the actors and viewers, who are being manipulated by hidden puppeteers.

Captivating and unpredictable!
lakatitabr30 April 2020
Interesting story about the strangers who woke up in the cabin in the woods not remembering how they all got there. It appears to be someone's game. The reasoning is a mystery at first, but, as the story unfolds through the flashbacks from the masquerade party, the viewer gets a better idea on how the events are connected and how characters' actions resulted in the final state. Indeed, the ending is pretty unpredictable.

Snowed in with beautiful sickos, The Bad, the Worse, and the Ugly.
bluegrafx20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this as "Ice Cage."

So three beautiful women, one beautiful man, and one old fat guy wake up naked in the snow. They spend the rest of the movie in their underwear in an empty cabin.

They find a body of a woman upstairs, and a note that says one of them murdered her and they're all dead by 5:00 PM if they don't figure out who killed her and kill that person.

The plot is actually similar to a bunch of Outer Limits episodes where there's some unseen puppet master and people start turning on one another and/or picking a sacrifice. Outer Limits with nudity and bondage.

In a series of flashbacks they all attended an extremely sadistic Eyes Wide Shut major bondage/sadism party the night before, and each of them has some connection to the woman upstairs. Given the backstory, it's all pretty unsettling, which could be the point. Except for the old fat guy, there's plenty of eye candy. Maybe the running around in underwear is supposed to convey some kind of vulnerability, as it also makes escape back into the snow rather problematic.

The high stakes Clue in underwear premise comes across in and of itself as pretty sadistic. The whole thing seems to be a study in the amorality of all involved and so the question is who is getting paid back by whom and for what.

EDIT: I did give it 6/10. It's not a great movie, but it's a good movie.
