Requiem for a Shapeshifter (2016)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Filmmaker Mick Garris sits down for a conversation with John Carpenter as the two discuss his 1982 film THE THING. We start off learning about how Carpenter got involved in the movie and the irony that he would show a clip of the 1951 version in his HALLOWEEN. From here we tackle various subjects in regards to the movie including the special effects, the score, the locations and the ending. If you're a fan of Carpenter or THE THING then you're certainly going to love this twenty-eight minute featurette. The greatest thing about it is that Carpenter is obviously very happy with the way it turned out and he even says it's the film that come out closest to his vision. There are some great stories told throughout including some discussion of its box office failure. Garris then makes a rather silly comment asking who remembers E.T. today because he's trying to say THE THING is more important. Sorry Mick, both films are great but there's still a large number of people who remember and love E.T..
