I assume they no longer have a saga/history consultant?

The first 4 series of Vikings were superb. Obviously some dramatic license was deployed, but in general terms the series stuck to the content of the sagas where possible. It baffles me that as the series enters a time frame for which we have pretty reliable evidence for actual events, Vikings emphatically moves away from being a drama based in history to a game of thrones style soap opera. I don't expect a documentary, but why move away from a successful formula? The Last Kingdom is now doing a far superior job in this genre.

New Gods
claudio_carvalho1 January 2019
Heahmund discloses to King Alfred that Lord Cuthred was a traitor that was plotting to overthrow and kill him. King Alfred asks Bjorn, Lagertha and Ubbe to convert to the Christianity to smooth things over in his court and Ubbe and Torvi accepts the proposal. Floki faces problems in his settlement with another disappearance. Igor the Boneless is completely insane and convinced that he is a God and Freydis´ baby is his. He decides to make a sacrifice to the gods.

"A New God" is another good episode of "Vikings" with the theme "new god" everywhere: Ubbe and Torvi convert to accept the Christian God; the insane Ivar believes he is a God; and Floki´s leadership is confronted by the settlers that realize they are in a place forgotten by the gods. My vote is seven.

Decent Episode

I feel Vikings has really taken a dive in previous episodes. This was at least tolerable with a little suspense.

I'm betting the mystery contestant at the end is King Harold.

Now all we can do is to watch the characters no history!

Since we don't know much about Ivar, I think the writers are struggling with bringing more history to the show, It's heading more towards fiction. All new episodes were not interesting!

Pointless Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This TV show is collapsing from an episode to another. This episode is kind of useless nothing special happened. The way Ivar is acting is making me nauseous, and the character is kind of stupid and going mad doing unreasonable things such as ''The Sacrifice''. The story of Floki and his new land is boring as well. Wish that this tv show stopped when Ragnar died.

What did they do to the show?

Warning: Spoilers
I loved Vikings in the beginning....there were many things that bothered me at first like the clothing, that was 100% fantasy and 0% historical correct and the weird bending of history, but as soon as I realized this was a saga, everything was fine. And the show perfectly worked as a saga - taking reference to history but tweaking it, exaggerating it and garnishing it with some stylish elements and drama. That´s basically how sagas work....

The storyline was consistent, there were some really great scenes, the acting was mixed quality, but still good enough (with some great moments), and there were many characters who were likable and developing.

But now the simply screwed the entire thing up - big time. I have no idea what is wrong with the people who make the show, but seriously?

The acting is so bad it makes me cringe, the characters (even the ones who have been established with great depth) are shallow and don´t develope, the storyline is....well....wait...actually there is not even a storyLINE, since this would imply development.

The only one who develops ist Ivar - if you could call this developement. Fromm child on I have always been intrigued with the villains....I liked Maleficent more than I liked the sleeping beauty....I even liked the character of jigsaw....so I don´t have a problem with being bad or evil at all....but Ivar is just unbearable! I don´t even know if it is the acting or the writing of the role. Every screen second he gets feels like wasted lifetime. I have no idea how Ivar gets the power he has....in the last scene of this episode you get an idea of how he uses military to control the people in Kattegat - but why do all these warriors follow the delusional idiot Ivar? And why the hell do the priests even come to proclaim him God instead of telling to...do whatever. Either I missed a great part of the show or there is no proper justification of Ivar power except by this one stupid scene where he stands up against ragnar....

So basically I decided to stop watching the show..it is too bad imdb doesn´t offer an option to rate a series seasong wise. Because I would love to give this season a 1 star rating....and keeping the good rating for the older seasons...

The Vikings Soap Opera! What happened to a once great show? Bubbly Soap, Crap Writing, Crap Acting, Crap Scenes. No lead characters. So Sad.
Bababooe13 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is very difficult. I own the first 4 seasons of this show and watched multiple times. The first half of season 5 was ok. This half is poor. Very poor. No lead characters, no lead storyline, the actors are sad, the scenes are sad. Remember when this show had great battle scenes, great acting. No more.

Here's a breakdown of the mess this week: In Katagot (Denmark/Norway? Who knows, the show doesn't even know), Ivar the Terrible Actor's wife kills her sperm donner. Wow, who could have seen that coming. Ivar is played so dumb that he believes he's a god and that he fathered this woman's child. He insinuates that he will sacrifice the only brother that stayed beside him.

Floki is still tripping with a bunch of losers, spitting bad dialogue and bad scenes. Floki should have had veto powers in his contract: NO STUPID DIALOUGE OR SCENES!

England, Harold in Viking held York trying to conspire against Ivar the Terrible Actor. Poor acting, poor dialogue. Just plain sad. Ubbe and Torvi convert to Jesus. Ubbe's acting is highlighted with low level Ragnar facial twitches and sniffles, while Bjoke looks on with sniffles of his own, and spits a loogie! Alfred weds his two timing wife. Nothing can save Alfred's acting. Alfred's brother is conspiring against his brother for the, wait for it, "THE THRONE THAT HE GAVE UP!" Bjoke, yes joke, is approached by "Magnus" the bastard exiled son of Ragnar and Cwinthrop.

Poor acting, poor scenes, no lead character, no lead story. Just a continuation of cheap soap opera from last episode. Very sad. It's like watching your favorite band playing cheap poor cover tunes of bands that they inspired. Please go back to whatever you did to produce the early great episodes.
