Shocking Developments is one of a few fan films that doesn't try to eclipse or replicate Hollywood but instead plays to it's own strengths with a sharp script with a haunting and relevant real world message about how we treat one another, especially in our young formative years.
Flash Thompson makes a grave mistakes when he pushes a troubled student Herman Schultz too far without realising the repercussions of his actions, and it leads Herman to bring weapons to school and a massive disaster that Spider-man has to thwart.
It treats the subject with a great deal of dignity and doesn't rely too much on existing mythos and derivative ideas and demonstrates a superb understanding of it's own characters. It's never too black and white in regard to morality but it does propose a message of kindness and it's simply impossible not to love this film for that alone.
The filmmaking and storytelling is a big step up from the previous entry and while the filmmaking still feels generally fairly amateur, it utilizes all of it in a very meaningful way.
