Bye bye ABC.
deloudelouvain18 August 2019
After reading some reviews I'm glad I'm not the only one that is fed up with ABC. For once they have an interesting series and of course they have to cancel it. They have absolutely no clue when they have a good show. I was already not a big fan of ABC, with alot of mediocre shows, but now I'm completely done with them. The Crossing had a good storyline, with an interesting concept, decent actors, and good twists and turns. It's a shame they cancel this promising show. You wonder who is the moron that decides such a thing. He or she is just incompetent.

Amazon: Don't stop this show

Because it is well written and with talented actors. It is not easy to find sci-fi series having these two...

Better Than A Lot Of Current Shows!
jimj409 May 2018
I wasn't sure what I was going to make of this show, based on the mixed reviews here, but actually it's pretty good. I can't see how the complaints of it being a commentary on religion or pushing a "refugee agenda" can seriously be justified except to those who are actively looking for justification of such simplistic theories.

Sure, the story isn't entirely new but it contains enough twists on previous efforts to make it more than watchable and the characters are engaging and believable enough to hold the viewer's interest. For a nice change, one can immerse oneself in the action and plot without the constant groaning at the hammy acting and juvenile story-lines that so many current series invoke.

I read that no decision has yet been taken regarding a second season and it seems that this MIGHT be reflected in the current pace of the action: it's a little too fast, and revelations that are usually saved for later episodes - such as the existence of previous crossing(s) - come rather too early.

All in all, it's an interesting concept and the acting is better than many better-rated shows on now, so I certainly hope that it will be on our screens for as long as the writers manage to hold our attention and keep the story twists coming.

Love this show!!
argabrite-carla16 May 2018
Since it looks like this is going to be cancelled, I refuse to watch any new shows on ABC. They get us interested, and do not give it a chance, so I am done with new shows on ABC!! If they last through the first season, I may go to my on demand, and catch up, but will not watch when they first bring a new show on, until I see if there is going to be a season 2.

I wish people wouldn't have quit on this show so easily.
youngcountry8415 May 2018
I've heard people complain that this plot has been done 100 times before after only watching one or two episodes. I don't know about you, but when I watch a new show, in the first couple episodes, I can usually pick out things that have been done 100 times! But then it got better & in my opinion, the Crossing does too. So Steve Zahn plays a Sheriff named Jude in a small town (I don't remember what it's called). Jude has a past & to make a long story short without the spoilers, he was in a big city, some stuff went bad, so he comes to idyllic small town where nothing usually goes bad & things go bad.Admittedly, that's been done a few times.) Of course Big Brother Government shows up & takes over. It turns out that these people aren't illegal aliens trying to escape a war torn situation. They're actually Americans trying to escape a war torn situation. This show was cancelled but I still don't want to spoil anything so I can't say anything more about where the people are from or how they got there. There's a lot going on in this show, which is why I wish people would've stayed with it. Every episode, something new happens or we find out something new about someone. It's mystery, sci-fi, action, comedy, love story, and drama all in one show. I'm very disappointed that more people didn't give it a chance.

Another TV network run by brainless suits.
metalgear5207 July 2018
Another show canned prematurely by a tv network that doesn't understand the concept of audience building. They completely unrealistically expect 10m+ viewers on the first season of a new series, then scrap it when it misses the mark. So many good sci-fi shows lost to this BS in recent years.

I want more
cbroberg25 April 2018
I love the storyline and the whole idea of this show. I am thrilled with the first 4 episodes and can't wait to get more of this show.

Can't follow the bad reviews here, shows are almost all build upon the same reel and has proofed to be working for the majority of viewers which I'm among.

It has solid acting and you keep wanting to get further into the mistery sorrounding the refugees and their past (our future) and the earlier arrived.

The suspense is on for me and I love this show fully.

To bad it's not a binge show which draws 1 point down in my review.

Too bad ABC cancelled it! Wow, I don't understand what they are thinking. About one of the best new sci-fi series in a long while. I'm done with ABC as well.

[7.5] The ABC of a failed mindset
cjonesas27 April 2021
An above-average series with a nice and interesting premise, definitive potential, dedicated acting, but with a semi-lethargic flow and some dragging episodes.

It lacked intensity, character and "leadership"; on the other hand, it was finding its footprint and developing at its own pace, slowly but surely, with a brilliant cliffhanger.

It doesn't take genius executives to understand the potential this series had. All it took was looking past the initial ratings point, which would have surely increased with a smoother and more suspenseful season 2 bringing more fans to the field.

Unfortunately, the Network didn't give the show a second chance. The mindset between real success and failure.

Now, it can keep counting on its "stellar" soap-opera series with two-digit seasons.

LCD TV
smmannix7 April 2018
The plot-line was interesting to me,so I watched the first episode. Aside from the plot itself, the show offers little intellectual stimulation. Formulaic, rather boring, and high school level dialogue. Truly lowest common denominator television.

Another great show lost
swfrosty23 May 2018
This is another great show lost to time thanks to idiots.

Compelling characters, rich development, and interesting story. And yet, thanks to a bunch of fool reviewers, it's been killed.

better than most

Warning: Spoilers
In a small Oregon town, deputy Nestor Rosario picks up Sheriff Jude Ellis (Steve Zahn) on report of a body found on an isolated beach. They are shocked to find hundreds of bodies and 47 survivors washing ashore. Homeland Security agent Emma Ren (Sandrine Holt) takes charge of the situation. The mystery deepens as the survivors claim to be time travelers from an apocalyptic future where people are being hunted by genetically superior Apex. Incurable Mantle's disease has decimated the regular human population. The survivors are revealed to be not the first to time travel into the past.

This network sci-fi series is better than most of its kind. It has an intriguing premise that is different enough to be new. Zahn and Holt are solid leads. Killing off Holt does disrupt the show. Killing the lead is becoming a thing on TV nowadays. It's still going strong but it's cancelled before finishing its first season. I don't think network TV is built for these types of shows or anything other than bland sitcoms or procedurals.

Fine arts grads write another budget sci-fi ...
ottawa_scuba_monkey26 April 2018
I'm OK with the underlying theme of the series, but ...

1. I hate Steve Zahn's over-acting ... more angry stares into the camera please? 2. I don't know why HSI keep the visitors in tents? 3. How come the visitors are wearing the same clothes all the time? 4. Why do the lead investigators always need to have face-to-face conversations? 5. Why is there only one Doctor/scientist looking after the visitors? 6. Why are there no quarantine procedures at the camp/town? 7. Why do the characters only say 10% of what needs to be said? 8. Why does every conversation between the characters seem awkward?

Another low-budget sci-fi with bad science, writing and acting.

I got a bad feeling about this one
Rob-O-Cop30 March 2018
Three interesting new shows pop up at once, Barry, The Terror and this one. That's good, right? I quite liked the look of the images at the start, promising, underwater etc. Steve Zahn is normally the kiss of death to a show, not that he's a bad actor, he does his one character well, but everything he touches seems to go badly. I'd already watched the other 2 and they were both surprisingly good, fresh, interesting, not cliche, not obvious, aimed at an intelligent audience and treating them with respect. The bar was set high. Then The Crossing. The cliches came fast. I felt bad for Zahn. Straight into the macho law enforcement 'this is our crime scene' shtick, absolutely done to death and quite wrong as another reviewer pointed out. I just can't stomach the same trite mcguffins over and over again. It's boring, it really is. It wasn't all dull though, there were some interesting aspects that gave hope. The future people discussing how meat came from real animals, the evolutionary different Apex people, all stuff dealing with the good part of the show, ie the idea of future humans coming back to present time and the issues with that. No one wants to see US cop tropes trundled out exactly the same as in every other generic show ever made. they're not comforting, or entertaining, they're boring. Do something different with this show please, or it will be relinquished to the Zahn curse.

Good show, too bad it's been cancelled.
rubylou-634704 February 2019
I really liked this show. I enjoy these sy-fy shows, but they always seem to be cancelled after 1 to 3 seasons. I need to just not watch new shows until they actually finish a series these days since lately it seems all the good ones I like never get finished. Which is something I have a hard time dealing with are those cliff hangers and then never close them! They really needed to give this show a chance. I scrolled through the user reviews and saw very few bad. Not sure why they cancelled. Such a shame.

Deja vu, all over again!
rsvp32122 March 2018
This plot's been done to death...but it's still entertaining, at a tv series level.

*Extremely* low budget, ep 1 viewed and I already know what ep 2 will be, and the others following, but I'll watch it anyways - likely delegated to background noise while multitasking, but I'll keep it on my list because it's sci fi presented to us not so bad it's intolerable.

I hope there will be some viewing of the future Earth, otherwise I'll be lowering my 5-star. Technology from the future had better be part of the show, too. If they can transport clothing and shoes with them into the past, surely we can see some cool gadgets that were brought with them!

A 5-star vote because it's mediocre. I might be back to change this rating after a few more episodes.

I agree with one other review - the original lone review from almost a year ago gushing on the series after just one episode has to be looked at with suspicion, imo.

EDIT/Added:

I've upgraded the series from 5 to 7, after viewing episode 5.

The acting, plot, sub-plots are developing well, and the biggest bonus is that to this point, *there are no political messages driving the script*!

So many good ideas for new series are off my list now, when I see the writers obviously using them for their own real-life agenda messages. To all the idiot writers in Hollywood - just entertain us, morons! No one cares what you think.

Plot issues in the pilot already
Top_Dawg_Critic3 April 2018
I'm the 12th reviewer and at least 5 previous (clearly the positive ones) are fake reviews with either 1 or 2 more other reviews. Pathetic the producers have to pay for reviews before the pilot is even aired. Now about the pilot; the tension is good, but the acting - especially Steve Zahn is unconvincing. He comes across too dopey to be a Sheriff and would have been better off cast in a comedy, not a drama like this. I just can't take him seriously enough. Baffled this was the casting departments choice. The directing is fairly decent thus far, as is the cinematography but I'm seeing some editing issues as well. What is very evident are some very obvious plot issues. I hope the writers tighten up in the next upcoming episodes. Thus far I'm giving this a very fair 7/10 for now and will re-evaluate after seeing the next two episodes.

Fantastic opening, continues to be excellent
baldguyut22 May 2018
The opening sequence of hundreds of people underwater grabbed my attention and the show has delivered excellence with every episode. One of the best TV shows I have seen on network TV. The writing is excellent, the plot continues to hold your interest, characters are interesting, twists and turns are satisfying and sometimes surprising, and the acting is well done by all.

Wish they had kept in on longer.

I really think this show was cheated. It really wasn't given a chance to shine really before it was canceled. What I saw of it, it had GREAT potential. That's just my opinion tho.

Keeps getting worse with every new episode
paulwalters-2424 April 2018
Just watched episode 4 and I think I'm done with this one. Started off with a good premise, similar to some other tv shows, but a little more suspense. Unfortunately, things turned sideways and now we are looking at a mediocre drama not even worthy of theater. Actors are pretty decent, but a weak story line makes their job a lot harder. I think the writers were caught between whether to make this an adventure, thriller or drama based show, but ended up with below average content in all department. Straight up boring and not worthy of your time.

Give it a chance!
samanthacato11 June 2018
I'm sincerely upset that a decision has been made to terminate this programme. It is control beyond belief, and shows definitively that we have no choice over what we want to watch. Comparisons to Lost are futile. I don't get them. However, not allowing the Crossing storyline to develop to season 2 by the networks is condescending. I absolutely love this programme. I'm not the only one but termination at this point is too premature. Someone needs to work this out. Season 2 needs to happen. It is imperative. Please listen to us - the fans. There is too much room for development.

Language is not realistic
bookworm1-262-6431683 April 2018
Encountering people that far from the future (if this is really the case here) means that there will be a great difference in language, clothing, and culture. That the newcomers and 2018 persons could communicate seems phony and a distraction. Maybe I was spoiled by BBC America's Copper from a few years back, who took the effort to be authentic to NYC in 1865.

becbec-cobb4 November 2018
Seriously ABC??? Another great show cancelled? This may not have been your new "LOST" but it was certainly close. I still have season 1 on my DVR. The plan was to binge watch it just before season 2 started. Yes, I liked it that much!! Still hoping someone else will be wise enough to pick it up. -Unhappy-
