[6.8] A bumpy ride
cjonesas24 September 2021
A sort of lame mystery/drama series with sporadic good acting (besides Laura), somewhat interesting storyline, lots of cliched and useless dragging and an overall average flow.

It is not serious, doesn't have a thrilling vibe, but nevertheless, is mildly entertaining for a pass-time.

Stick With It
Sumpmonster7 November 2018
This is a strange little tale. It starts off badly, very badly. Hyper annoying children combined with some poor acting and a weak script almost had me close to turning off. Fortunately Episode 1 is no more than a premise set up and things improve significantly as the series progresses. An unbelievably drab looking Patton (still gorgeous) and Sawa as a burn out ex-cop do a decent job holding this together. It's not rocket science, but worthwhile for passing some cold winter nights in front of the TV.

Nice television series.

Warning: Spoilers
I liked these episodes. It is exciting and sometimes fun to watch.

I don't get it what this magic lake had to do with the story, getting this man and woman back in the past. For the first two episodes it was relevant and further through the series it had nothing more to do with it. But it was the theme what made me watch the series.

This kid, the daughter who gets kidnapped, is very terrible in acting. Only for her I should have stopped after episode 1 where she died. The male actor who is helping her mother is fun to watch.

I agree with most review writers; acting is bad, writing is far fetched.

bad bad acting
lauraluxelifestyle3 September 2017
Goodness what a bad actress! Every move she makes is way over the top! The story is good but she is so over the top. Acting is about giving a subtle option to a situation. She is all over the place I think she needs acting lessons She needs to review her acting presentation She sighs all the time, her every facial expression is over the top which makes the viewer conscious of the fact that she is over acting. the other actors are OK which brings her exaggerated performance even more into discussion. enough!

average show with a very bad acting lead actress
Abbye-Sei1 October 2018
This is not the most intense, most interesting TV show there is.. but it is not that bad as some reviews claimed.

The story is quite predictable as I get to episode four, I can already guess who is the bad guys here. The show has somewhat fast pace which is good, not much twist and turn but with some actions. This is a killing time kind of show. I can tell you there are way lots of garbage show in Netflix than this one.

The only thing that will hinder you from continue to kill time with this show is the lead actress - Paula Patton, i do not know how she became an actress, maybe the trend now is actresses cant act, singers cant sing..

She consistently has that "trying-so-hard, over-the-top" look on her face for the whole 10 episodes, her hairdo doesnt help either, she looks kind of old and haggard to be the wife of that DA guy. Even the child actresses (Serena & Ruby) acts better than her. And that Serena character is a spoil brat who is a constant pain to watch too. Seriously, Should have fired the casting director and probably the director for accepting such sub-par acting.

Give it a try & don't listen to all these bad reviews!!!
krw1262 August 2017
Okay, so I actually NEVER review shows but come on people!? Somewhere Between is actually a really interesting show with dynamic characters and boat loads of suspense. I'm confused by all of the negative reviews.

No, I've never seen the original Korean series so I didn't have the same expectations going into this. However, I did read these reviews. I actually deleted my recording and wasn't even going to give it a chance. Thankfully my parents told me they loved it. So I watched the first episode... then the second... then the third. My only complaint? I can't binge the rest of the series yet.

Is it the best show I've ever watched? No. Is it good TV? Yes.

I recommend you give it a try as well.

Very Interesting
victororodi27 July 2017
I feel like this is one of those good series which will end up getting cancelled because of lack of enough viewership. It has a very good storyline which i like, if they manage to make it to season two they need to add more characters, i'm interested to see how the rest of the episodes will play out but for now it is a 7/10 for me.

annoying kid
SnoopyStyle20 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A serial killer is on the loose. TV producer Laura Price and her husband District Attorney Tom Price have a young daughter named Serena. Former cop Nico Jackson tries to collect $60k from Laura but he's been set up. His brother Danny Jackson is on death row after being prosecuted by Tom for the murder of Nico's girlfriend. Their mother Grace Jackson is desperate to prove Danny's innocence. Psychic Sarneau warns Laura of an impending loss and interconnected fate. The serial killer kidnaps Serena and kills her. The governor reinstates the death penalty and Danny is next to die. Nico is thrown into a lake by thugs. He escapes to find Laura trying to drown herself nearby. They crawl out of the water to find themselves eight days earlier before Serena's abduction. Sarneau is gone who turns out to be Nico's former fiancee's mother. Laura and Nico team up to try to change history as they uncover a conspiracy.

This is adapted from a Korean show. I'm not a big fan of Paula Patton's acting which consists of varying degrees of near-cry. The story starts with an intriguing premise although the conspiracy rabbit hole is rather convoluted. It goes so fast that most plot holes are ignored. Much of it can be forgiven but I can't stand the kid. Some will say she's sassy but that's a short distance from bratty. Bratty kids are a pet peeve of mine unless they can be funny. This girl ain't funny. She's a know-it-all brat and she gets on my nerves. I'm perfectly happy to have her dead so I don't have to see her. The character drains all the fun from the show.

I'm on episode 4 currently and will change the rating as necessary. I absolutely hate Paula Patton as an actress. If they give her too many lines, the movie tends to go downhill. It's better that she just try to be sexy and not act...... moving on.... it's a good story plot. But I can't stand movies with kids acting all grown and talking back. That little girl would've had a beat down a few times. That's it.

Good story but bad acting by leading female actors
nazaretdreef2 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
It would be an excellent mini-series if it weren't for the bad acting of the leading actresses. Paula Patton acts over-concerned, over-punitively or over-loving all the time, this is really an example of overacting. She is not even good enough for a role in a B-movie like she acts here.

Then the kid, Serena, if I should call her a kid: she is a smart ass. That might be the role she has to take on, but she is so arrogant, that you don't even feel sorry for her when something would happen to her. Like, wow, luckily the little brat is gone.

The side characters and the leading men actors were very good and realistic. They made me watch the series till the end.

Edge of the seat stuff
KathleenK225 November 2018
This series is very exciting. To emphasise a point about the bad reviews, a reviewer said the acting was bad. Ruby was given an award for this and her acting as a special needs child is superb. Serena was also very good but Ruby would have been a more difficult role. All the actors were very good. Their characters were convincing and believable. It kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Ignore the poor reviews as they are misleading and wrong. The style of acting suited the series as it was a thriller and dangers abounded.

I always finish what I start!
malcolmw8918 March 2020
Ok. I watch a lot of tv. Having a son with depression and anxiety issues, I don't have much of a social life. I also am very eclectic when it comes to what I watch & am willing to try anything! If it's good it's good. I pride myself on formulating my own opinion but I must confess I do read some ratings before watching something. More to see what people say & how they express their opinions, rather than the rating itself! I have given this rating on the 1st episode, as I do agree somewhat worth a lot of you self appointed critics. In they there is a fanominal amount of over acting going on here! Also, yes the child actress is already getting on my nerves! That said, I think the plot & story has potential in it's idea. So I am going to keep watching & see where it goes. Will almost certainly rate it again when I finish the series!

Worst Lead Actress
andrewb-6125315 October 2018
Exactly as the headline states. Paula Patton's pathetic attempt at acting has ruined what could of been an astounding series. Her over the top facial expressions and emotional character reactions are beyond poor acting. It is such a pity as the rest of the actors would of pulled the story and show off and made it a 'Much Watch'

I watched episode 1 and nearly gave up. So glad I kept watching it, it really improved. Episode 1 was so bad, maybe it was poorly put together, I don't know...but do watch after. The girls acting improves.

The acting gets better after episode 3
ruby_proudfoot10 October 2018
Not a whole lot better but there seems to be a point after episode 3 when someone tells Paula Patton to tone down the over the top acting. She doesn't stop overreacting, but it is a tad less intense, which makes the rest of the season a whole lot watchable

Give it a chance

Terrible Actress
melanieholmes-0072527 July 2018
I agree with most of these reviews that Paula Patton is way to over the top in this series. It makes the show so hard to watch because of her. I believe the best part of the show is the actor playing Nico Jackson, everyone else is ridiculous. I quit watching after 4 episodes because I could t take Paula Patton's extreme facial expressions and unexplainable acting.

Don't Listen to those Haters
lmferrato28 August 2017
I didn't read the review first. I watch episode 1 and didn't know if I was going to like it but since I have Kodi I watched the next 5 episode in row and was hooked.

To the reviewers that gave low stars - it is like going to a new restaurant and not having a great experience, you need to go back a couple of times until the kinks are worked out.

You need to watch more than episode to get a good experience and enjoy the show.

Very bad actress
stavnik00015 July 2022
The plot is good, is keeping you, it has some holes but is usual in these kind of TV shows. I believe that can ends in less episodes. Paula Patton is maybe the worst actress I ever seen. Whatever happened she had the same irritating face.

So bad that I had to write my first review
djangogirl-1235830 September 2018
The story is very appealing and that's what got me into watching the series. As I'm writing this, I am finishing the second episode.

First two minutes into the show I thought how bad the acting is. I've seen the main actress in few movies and her acting skills were okay, pretty average but not bad. But in this show! Oh my! But let's be fair, no one acts good in this show.

Too bad for this good storyline.

A sci-fi drama, with thriller intensity, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.
petaln216 August 2017
Somewhere Between

A sci-fi drama, with thriller intensity, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Really great stuff if you're much like me and enjoy debating with others about the plot, all while being on the very edge of your seats.

Paula Patton's character is quite the complex role too - a deranged and broken mom facing a long period of heartbreak, then thrown into what I can only describe without giving anything away, a total dumbfounding roller coaster of a situation which leads her character into a desperate and somewhat crazy quest. Something that Patton seems to portray well enough. If only the director took more care in knowing when to do a close up or long pan shot when she is in a serious scene, the feel would be more conveyed without compromising Patton's credibility. There are even some scenes you think the director took right out of Arrow's b-roll, then again, it does add this 80s vibe that is certainly the trend on the sci-fi series front as of late - what year is it again?

Directing aside, Devon Sawa is really stealing the show and was a surprise to see him pulling his weight against JR Bourne, who is a favourite of mine since appearing as Dr Carter's love interest in Stargate the series. Both leading men have a great intensity playing off one another and their roles are both well developed and intriguing. Sawa plays a gritty deadbeat PI with a shocking past, while Bourne is a suave district attorney and family man, with perfect blue eyes and peppery silvery hair. Great actors can be pretty on the eyes too.

Rating it, the show has all the ingredients of a 10/10 sci-fi series, with just enough twists and turns to give you whiplash that you don't mind having. However, the direction of filming does pull away somewhat in the moments that count. Watchability 6/10. Overall, the context and actors lend the show enough for Netflix to save it, 8/10.

Not a time travel movie
dabl-271065 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I expected more elements of time travel or fatechange and a proper explanation why all of that happend. I still didn't get why the girl was key to it all and that is never explained.

I liked Devon Sawa in this movie. Good to see him back.

There are many lose ends and psychological errors in the series.

*****SPOILER****

1. The father and husband of the main cast gets shot in front of the wife, but she seems to cope well very fast and never loses a word about him within minutes.

2. The girl witnesses brutality and still does not get intimidated or traumatized.

3. Devon Sawa's best friend for many years slits his own throat in front of him and he acts all cool afterwards. No sadness, nothing.

I could go on and on. There are so many illogical things in this series.

The story itself is ok. Overall it was a fun watch. Switch off your brain. Don't look for answers. Don't expect too much. But it's not as bad as many reviews say. I acctually liked it.

The acting is really bad, bad, bad.
guy-36620 October 2021
Miss Patton should be very angry with her directors for not telling her she was overacting in almost every scene. Miss Birch who plays the brat Serena... well, I'm only halfway the first episode. Will her character be killed soon? Please?
