A good companion to the documentary

This interview is a good companion to the documentary. And it does add helpful information. Yet there is nothing special. And it should be viewed as an extra, a complement to the documentary and not as a stand alone work. Also, it was amusing to watch the two producers interact.

'In Conversation'...
IcyTones3 October 2020
The conversation establishes DuVernay's principal motives for '13th'. It is/was a working concept that loadsa people know or have experienced bits of this & bits of that - ie: lots of people know bits of history, lots of people know bits of slavery, lots of people know bits of or other aspects of law & order, bits of civil rights or human rights law, bits of policing etc. Lots of people also have a sense of belonging to a community, this in return may cause them to know about bits of or localised mass incarceration.

By the same token and just because there are no shackles & chains, loadsa people don't see the connection between the past & the present. The conversation isn't just about the past 'affecting' the present, the conversation highlights that what happened/happens to a people then is still being 'Enforced' today.

However, what emerges from that mish-mash of knowledge is a 'jigsaw puzzle'. Through '13th', DuVernay sought to put the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together.
