Why We Can't Trust The Experts!
doddmailbox31 May 2017
This short documentary film was made by the National Coal Board in the early 1960's to inform an audience and self-promote itself. It's probably factually correct with most of the contemporary figures it gives out, but it is its future predictions where the whole thing falls apart. It insists coal is the future as oil will soon 'run out', and gives a date of 1980 as an important time for our super dependence on the fossil fuel (as we know 1980 was the start of Margaret Thatcher's decimation and ultimate demise of the industry in the UK). Despite this it's a great time capsule, with a rather laughable delivery including a well spoken suited man smoking a pipe in a chair talking directly to the camera - something only used in parody situations nowadays!
