Look At Me When I'm Killing You.....
wandernn1-81-68327411 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We start off here with a very somber viewing of some of the townsfolk, as I guess they are all aware another body has been found.

Who is it?? The body was staged in the middle of the swamp with all kinds of animal bones strewn around it. Like some sort of ritual display. Oh it was Miriam. The Mayor's daughter, finally found. Well at least we know now it wasn't the MAYOR who killed her.

The DOCTOR says that Miriam has been dead for months, her body likely preserved in PEAT. But they think the body was moved. So where has the body been? And who moved it? And most importantly, who killed Miriam???

CORA now comes to scumbag Lauren and tells her that she thinks it was ROMAN that killed Miriam. CORA tells her about how Roman is at 'war' with the Steiners.

Oh and the MAYOR shows up at the Police Shop with a bunch of muscle with him. He demands to know what the Police have so far as far as suspects. Scumbag Lauren and Scumbag Mayor confront each other in the middle of the street in front of everyone. I guess the honeymoon is over.

The Mayor goes after Roman! And beats him in the middle of the clearing in front of everyone. Roman laughs at him. Roman tells him his daughter came to him, to tell him all of Bertrand's secrets. And that his daughter hated him. And then scumbag Lauren shows up just in time and shoots the scumbag Mayor in the leg!

+1 Star for Scumbag Lauren shooting the MAYOR in the leg and saving Roman's life.

So....evidence comes out on residue found around the body and Lauren and crew figure out that this residue might come from an old Quarry that was shut down years ago. And scumbag Lauren she decides the's going to go there and investigate this place ALONE.

And CORA, GOES TO visit Roman in the hospital. Cora and Roman figure out they are both liars.

Out at the Quarry... scumbag Lauren is shot 3 times in the torso. Who is that that shot her?? Is that Officer Camille?? Oh wow, certainly did not see that coming. Of course scumbag Lauren is still alive..and Camille, she drags her into the WOODS and dumps her body down a ravine. Surely scumbag Lauren is dead this time right?? No one can possibly survive 3 bullets to the chest at virtually point blank range.

Camille and CORA go out to this crime scene where they found Miriam's body. Camille pulls a gun on CORA. During Camille's confession, Crows start swarming. Cora tries to steal the gun from Camille, and they fight, and Camille has the upper hand, but the CROWS, the CROWS ATTACK CAMILLE!!! Allowing Cora the distraction she needed to stab Camille and kill her with some stupid antlers she picked out of the muck. And Camille before she dies she clues in CORA that she not only killed Miriam but she also did something to scumbag Lauren.

And the MAYOR, he runs a meeting which will divide the town. A PROPOSED LANDFILL in VILLEFRANCHE. AND the town council members must all vote on it. This is either vote for the STEINERS or vote for the sanctity of the town.

So CORA, is at the hospital. And now everyone is being made aware that Camille killed Miriam and tried to kill CORA and that scumbag Lauren is missing.

Meanwhile, the forest creature comes forward in the WOODS, and has covered scumbag Lauren in some sort of moss. Is this healing her? Is this going to revive her?? Oh Dear LORD ALMIGHTY. This MOSS HAS BROUGHT SCUMBAG LAUREN BACK TO LIFE!!!!

+1 Star for the end, when scumbag Lauren is brought back to life.

Had Potential
cebelina25 February 2024
Parts of this series were really interesting but certain things made it impossible for me to give this series a higher rating. Our protagonist at one point receives a serious life ending wound. She recovers in a very interesting way but afterwards she simply denies the strangeness of her recovery. Denies the importance that she even survived such a wound and is dismissive of how quick she recovers or that she was even able to recover at all. Then despite the fact that she is pursuing someone/something that had previously harmed her - she purposefully denies the possibility that the two incidences potentially could be connected. Which either makes her the literally the most stupid cop on the planet or in complete denial. But how does that work then? If she's not able to take her own situation seriously..., how can we take her seriously as an officer of the law when she isn't willing to examine every possibility regardless of her personal feelings? After waking up from what she experienced wouldn't one question "how did I manage to survive?" and "how is it possible I've recovered so quickly?" and "who took care of me?" It's a glaring oversight that undermines our character's strength and integrity and it undermines our story. Another thing that drove me crazy about this series is it was just a little long "in the tooth." At points I just wanted to say - "okay, we get it, a nasty little town, nasty secrets, spooky shadowy character and unanswered questions with many side stories weaving into one...but how long before we get to any insight into what's going on..." it was just too much dreary fleshing out of circumstances. And at times I just wanted to get this story over. I actually quit it for several days thinking I wasn't going to finish it - it got that annoying for me...in the end some of the characters were too predictable...tropes and stereotypes aside - this is a good series, but the hard-hitting (female) cop trope gets a bit obtuse and predictable. By the time she starts taking strange things seriously - I've disengaged from her character.
