Heroes of Mandalore: Part I
lassegalsgaard30 January 2020
Right out of the gate, "Star Wars Rebels" offers us one of the most explosive episodes yet. Starting off with an episode that directly takes off from an arc that we didn't see finished last time isn't something that they usually do, but to finally see the outcome of this Mandalorian civil war is something that I've been waiting for ever since Fenn Rau first appeared in the series. I'm glad to see that they are going directly into the action and not wasting time with setup, as we got a lot of that in the previous season. I was a little confused, and this may just be me, but I didn't know that we had ever heard about Sabine's father being a captive, but that might have been mentioned, and if it has then it's on me. The main thing is that they seem to have found their footing. This is a shorter season, which may point to the fact that they aren't going to waste time with unecessary episodic stuff and focus on the things that makes the series work, which is the crew and their individual arcs. This is a great beginning of the end to Sabine's arc, as well as a great beginning of the end to the entire series.

decent start to the final season

This episode picks up generally where the last season ended. Ezra and Kanan are out helping in Mandalore fight against clan Saxon and the empire.

Good arc episode for Sabine certainly, and her story is definitely the focus here.

Yes, the episode isn't explosive or really advances the story as far as the end of the season, but I think most fans will be satisfied with the episode, and hopefully look forward to the end of the season.

Heroes and Villains

This moves forward with the thread about Mandalore, Sabine's efforts to stop the Empire keeping control of it and the rebels hopes of gaining Mandalore's support.

There is some cool action and some fun exchanges between characters with Ezra particularly amusing.

The Mandalorians are of course great looking in terms of design and provide good battles plus the darksaber and lightsaber being used by Sabine and Ezra is enjoyable.

A very solid episode.

My rating: 8/10.

An action packed episode with little story.

This episode is one of the most breakneck paced episodes of the show and the action in it is great but the narrative and dialogue are very thin which I think pulls this episode back a bit. Rebels' strength has always been it's characters and it's story and although there are some defining moments towards the end, the lack of a rich narrative and meaningful character moments pull it back from greatness.

Warning: Spoilers
A pretty decent start to the season overall.

It's more action heavy that story-driven, it being another Star Wars rescue mission, but the action and spectacle are all really well done, especially the desert chase scene.

Also, it was nice to see Bo-Katan again.

Also, the ending was a shock and a great cliffhanger.

Not great, still very good.

Boring.
cemk-229 October 2017
Is it possible that Star Wars: Rebels is going in the wrong direction? Or, is it because the writers don't have much to go with for a fourth season and the whole thing came to this? They made a long, useless saga with the episodes with Maul, and now it's Mandalorian power struggles that are boring us to within an inch of our lives. Sabine was the least interesting, most stereotypical character of the series and many a fan had expressed their relief when the character had chosen to go to Mandalore, an uninteresting planet with clans and which only has the Fett family for its claim to relevancy in the SW universe. Yet, now we are not only bang in the middle of a Mandalorian rescue mission but it's a two-parter and probably the useless Mandalorian game of thrones will cover an unnecessarily large portion of Season 4 of SWR. I hope the rest of the series will be more interesting to watch for this episode does not make one to come back and watch the rest next time.
