Long Live the King of Pop

The Michael Jackson Magical Moon-Tour is a trippy glimpse into the mind of the Michael Jackson that we all knew, as well as the one that we never got a chance to meet. It felt at times light hearted and at times tragic and dark. Michael Knight does an amazing MJ impersonation and his mannerisms reflect that of the late bizarre and beloved Michael Jackson... I like the playfulness between the interview (Sitara Hewitt) and Knight. I love the aesthetic, and the fact that as the background of the interview changes through out it seems to match the mood of the questions and answers. Makes me wish we got to see what MJ would have gone on to do in the future... Interesting and wacky!! Thumbs up.

The definitive Michael Jackson biopic!!

The micro-budget film 'The Michael Jackson Magical Moon-Tour' is the definitive Michael Jackson biopic (no other film comes close.) The Michael Jackson impersonator Michael Knight sounds EXACTLY like the late singer. The lovely Sitara Hewitt (well-known on Canadian TV) is ever-charming as the stoic interviewer Eve. Overall, I learned a lot about MJ (obviously very well researched). I thought the premise of the film was particularly clever. In the 'alternative-reality' of the year 2023, Michael Jackson wears a golden-mask, the result of an unspecified facial disfigurement. Consequently, the actor portraying MJ does not have to look like him, only sound like him (quite ingenious). According to the end-credits, the mask was made from a real plaster-cast of MJ's face, created for the 'Thriller' music-video.

The micro-budget film is admittedly a little rough around the edges, employing several overt 'jump-cuts' (although these may be intentionally included for artistic purposes). Overall, the quality of the production is pretty good, considering the film is purported to have been shot on one day, and on a budget of less than $10 000. Like other films by avant-garde director Rickard Bruhn ('Mystery Livfe ', 'A Symphony of War: Part I'), 'The Michael Jackson Magical Moon-Tour' is imaginative, trippy, dense, informative, unbiased, at times intense, and enormously entertaining. Definitely worth watching, especially if you are a Michael Jackson fan or someone who wants to learn more about him. I highly recommend this film.
