Street Scenes
boblipton10 November 2023
As the title indicate, this is a shot of the Place de la Concorde in Paris, with the Luxor Obelisk in center view. Like most of the Lumiere actualities, it is carefully and beautifully composed, as befits the Lumieres' history in photography. It also shows a lot of movement equally well set up, with the vertical movement of the water from one of the two Fontaines de la Concorde providing a steady beat, while traffic passes through the scene: horse-drawn carriages, people on bicycles or pushing carts, even one or two men walking at a steady through the frame.

It does lack the punctuation of some form of public transportation coming to a halt in the frame that many of the Lumieres' street scenes showed. I believe that this indicates it did not serve the same function as those others.
