Maybe it is intended to be something open to interpretation, who knows.
The video feels to be done with a certain touch of sarcasm, contrasting the catchy melody of the song with a series of catastrophic misfortunes, albeit from a somewhat "whimsical", almost playful perspective, like something from a dream.
The use of CGI to imitate cutout animation has a really nice result here, and I kinda wish Tim Hope had made more videos done with a similar style, besides this and the American version of the "Trouble" music video.
