It seems the picture was taken around the time when Shah Rukh was working on or had the release of ‘Yes Boss’ in 1997 as Kasbekar had the song ‘Chand Taare’ from the film playing in the background.
Kasbekar wrote: “Post some ad shoot with Srk and @pradeepsarkar at my studio many moons ago The late Pradeep-da was an art director in those days with Contract Advtg in Delhi and we did loads of print work together.”

Drama about a reporter who knows too much about a gruesome traffic incident checks off a grocery list of urgent questions without examining them
A young girl gets run over at the beginning of Suresh Triveni’s Jalsa, a brutal event that brings to mind Paul Haggis’s Crash, and not in a good way. Just like the painfully unsubtle Oscar winner, here a car accident and coincidences throw a group of people from different backgrounds into difficult dilemmas, forcing them to confront tough moral questions.
Vidya Balan, who also stars in Triveni’s debut Tumhari Sulu, plays Maya Menon, a tough-as-nails reporter priding herself on her unwavering honesty. Her introduction suggests that the film might be a female-driven character study, as Maya is torn between her work and her disabled son. But Jalsa then changes gears dramatically, revealing that Maya is the driver behind the gruesome hit-and-run. To make matters worse,...

InterviewAhead of the release of ‘Kaatrin Mozhi’, Jyothika speaks to Tnm about how naive women are when they come into the industry, the swear word controversy in ‘Naachiyar’, and discussions at home on cinema. Sowmya RajendranFacebook/JothikaActor Jyothika is awaiting the release of Kaatrin Mozhi, her fifth film since her return to cinema in 2015. Kaatrin Mozhi is the Tamil remake of the superhit Vidya Balan film Tumhari Sulu which came out last year and went on to set the box-office on fire. Jyothika terms her return to cinema as her “second innings” and she appears to be visibly confident about expressing her frank views on the industry and the films it produces. Critical voices on cinema rarely come from within and it’s rarer still for a woman actor to speak up, dependent as they are on the big male stars, directors and producers to get work. Jyothika, however, believes...

KollywoodThough the Tamil industry continues to worship its heroes, there are several films centered around women characters which are coming up.Tnm StaffIt’s raining female-centric films in Tamil. While it is undeniable that Tamil cinema worships its heroes, the winds of change are sweeping away the age-old demure damsel in distress we’re all quite familiar with, and in her shoes is the strong independent leading lady who is very much capable of saving herself from distress. The success of recent flicks like Nayanthara’s Aramm, Kolamaavu Kokila and Imaikaa Nodigal, Samantha’s U Turn and Keerthy Suresh’s Nadigaiyar Thilagam are examples enough that the tides are changing. Not only established actors like Nayanthara, Samantha and Amala Paul are signing up for such films, but relatively new actors like Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli and Oviya are choosing to don the superwoman cape in their upcoming projects. KollywoodThe 'Tumhari Sulu' remake also stars Vidhaarth and Lakshmi Manchu in lead roles.Digital NativeDigital NativeJyothika, who made a terrific comeback to acting after an eight-year-long hiatus with 36 Vayadhinile, has been making some interesting career moves. After playing a ruthless, no-nonsense cop in Bala’s Naachiyaar, she will be seen playing a homemaker who struggles to find her identity in the Tamil remake of Tumhari Sulu, to be directed by Radha Mohan. Titled Kaatrin Mozhi, the project officially went on the floors on June 4 following a customary puja which was attended by the entire cast and crew. Via a statement, the makers confirmed they're eyeing an October release. Jyothika's husband Suriya and father-in-law, yesteryear actor Sivakumar, attended the customary puja ceremony. Apparently, Mohan and Jyothika have been planning to work together for quite some time and both felt Tumhari Sulu, which struck gold at the box-office, would be the best option. In the film, Vidya plays a hard-working homemaker, who works as an Rj on a late night show. National award-winning editor Kl Praveen and cinematographer Mahesh Muthusamy have been roped in for the remake, which also stars Vidhaarth and Lakshmi Manchu in crucial roles. While Vidhaarth will be seen playing Jyothika’s husband, Lakshmi will reprise Neha Dhupia’s role from the original. On signing the project, Jyothika said in a statement: “I'm a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, and Tumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to director Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film. CinemaClose on the heels of 'Mahanati', there are many more southern films with women as main leads coming up.Siddarth SrinivasGone are the days when the mindset of an average movie-goer would only accept only a man as the central figure in a film. Times have changed, and it looks like southern cinema is catching up. The success of Mahanati (Nadigaiyar Thilagam in Tamil), in which Keerthy Suresh played the lead, bodes well for a slew of films centred around women characters that are about to hit the marquee over the next calendar year. Top women actors such as Nayanthara and Trisha have a minimum of two such films in hand. While the former has Imaikkaa Nodigal, Kolaiyuthir Kaalam and Kolamaavu Kokila on her plate, the latter has Garjanai (Tamil remake of Anushka Sharma’s NH4) and Mohini. Telugu actor Anushka Shetty had tasted success at the start of the year with Bhaagamathie, a spooky thriller, while in the Malayalam industry, Manju Warrier has made waves with the film Mohanlal, in which she played a huge fan of a the actor. Speaking of Jyothika, who is currently in the news for her role opposite Arvind Swami in Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, she has also signed the Tamil remake of Vidya Balan’s Tumhari Sulu. The film is titled Kaatrin Mozhi and will be helmed by Radha Mohan, who has already given Jyothika one of the most memorable films in her career – Mozhi. Speaking about the project, the director says, “It was a mutual decision between Jyothika, producer Dhananjayan and myself to work on this remake. Tumhari Sulu is known up north for its different storyline and nice humour. We believe we have made the right changes to bring in the local flavour without affecting the soul of the film.” The shoot for the film is expected to take off in the second week of June, with Vidharth reprising the role of Manav Kaul. It is not only the top women actors, but also the middle rangers who are opting for a swim against the tide. In an industry which mostly treats its woman characters as pure airheads, giving them almost nothing to do in the script, this is a whiff of fresh air and a welcome change creating a paradigm shift in the genres that are being targeted. Recently, actor Sivakarthikeyan announced his first home production Kanaa, which is expected to be an extremely interesting film narrating the story of a small town girl making it to the Indian cricket team. The film has completed close to 70% of its shoot and is looking at a release in the final quarter of the year. Lyricist/singer Arunraja Kamaraj, best known for 'Neruppu Da' from Kabali and 'Varlam Varlam Vaa' from Bairavaa, makes his directorial debut with this project which stars Aishwariya Rajesh in the lead role. An excited Arunraja Kamaraj spills the beans on the film, saying “The whole idea behind the film is to break the usual clichés. When it comes to cricket, right from Ms Dhoni and Iqbal up north to Chennai 28 down south, many films have been churned out in India but they have all been male-oriented. Female cricket is something that hasn’t been tapped yet, and in addition to that, my protagonist is a bowler, specifically a spinner. It is an untouched corner in a famous field.” Speaking about the effort that Aishwariya Rajesh has put in for her role, he says,“When she came on board, she was a newbie to cricket. But trust me, she put in a top-level effort to get even the slightest moves right. Aishwariya trained for close to 8 hours a day, for a month, to get into the skin of the character. She grew dark and was almost unrecognisable in front of Mani sir on the sets of her next film, but it was worth it.” The list of upcoming films centred around women characters proves to be an eye-opener. The themes and subjects are diverse and much of it has been under-explored so far. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s upcoming crime thriller Velvet Nagaram has a couple of realistic action sequences, while Samantha’s Tamil and Telugu remakes of U-Turn will definitely be a test of brains. Even women actors such as Hansika and Nandita Swetha are working on interesting projects in which their characters are the paramount. Let's hope the trend is here to stay!
