now and then

Greetings again from the darkness. It's the kind of interaction that occurs many times every day. A busy career woman crosses paths with a stranger at a London coffee shop. While she is stressed, structured and harried, he is laid back, charming, and persistent in pursuing a date with her.

Rachel Shenton stars as Jess and Chris Overton (PRIDE, 2014) is Alex. As their conversation progresses, the visuals we see are not the two sitting across the table from one another, but rather of their relationship as it unfolds over time in the future. Good times, bad times, and life events are shown. It's a very effective approach and one that keeps us focused on both what we hear them say, and what we see them do.

Ms. Shenton and Mr. Overton previously collaborated as writer and director (respectively) on the outstanding and Oscar-winning short film THE SILENT CHILD (2017). This time, they are both excellent on screen in this 10 minute gem from writer-director Tom Turner and his co-writer Samuel Berrill.

Jess and Alex

A nice surprise sounds just fair about this little gem. A career woman. A bohem man. In a coffee shop. Their dialogue. And their future.

A relationship as a sort of plant having as seed this meeting of two strangers , not exactly flirting but proposing each to other, in indirect manner, two ways to assume the life, reflected so precise by the end of the film.

So, admirable crafted, provocative and just honest. Nothing new , in essence but the clash of dialogue in coffeee shop and the presumed future who only can be reality is just inspired, sweet and inspired at whole.

A game with the viewer . This can be the impression, imposed by the great simplicity of story.

So, Jess and Alex.
