Having canceled “Live P.D.” in 2020, A&e is returning to the live docu-reality TV space — but this time, the network is trading order for law. A&e is set to launch “Court Night Live,” from former “Live Pd” producers Big Fish Entertainment, next Wednesday, August 10 at 9 p.m. Et.
“Court Night Live” will operate under a similar format to “Live Pd,” featuring hosts as they shift from multiple cities to watch live action as it takes place — but this time via “pop-up courtrooms” in Philadelphia, Tampa, and Chicago. The show is hosted by Vinnie Politan and TV vet Judge Greg Mathis, while retired Judge Vonda Evans will provide analysis.
Much like pre-taped daytime court shows, “Court Night Live” doesn’t take place in actual courtrooms, but feature people are taking their cases out of traditional courtrooms to be resolved on the show. Politan, Mathis, and Evans will provide context to the civil cases,...

ViacomCBS is cutting ties with Big Fish Entertainment, the MGM-owned shingle behind A&e’s recently canceled “Live Pd.” A&e is not a ViacomCBS network, but ViacomCBS did run shows from Big Fish including VH1’s “Cartel Crew,” “Black Ink Crew,” “Black Ink Crew: Chicago,” “Love & Hip Hop Miami,” “Love & Hip Hop: New York” and “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.” Big Fish had only recently become a producer on the “Love & Hip Hop” franchise.
Most recently, Big Fish produced the Covid-19-related special “Club MTV Presents #DanceTogether with D-Nice” for MTV.
“We have decided to end our relationship with Big Fish Entertainment and will be producing our shows in house at this time,” a ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group spokesperson said in a statement. “We thank Big Fish for their past contributions and wish them the best.”

Losing “Live Pd” will be a tremendous blow to A&e, and yet insiders at the network believe they ultimately had no option but to cancel the show at this moment in time.
As the debate swirls over the appropriateness of scripted depictions of law enforcement, the scrutiny has been more intense — even prior to the recent protests against police brutality — for reality shows like “Live Pd” and “Cops.”
Ultimately, after Paramount Network canceled “Cops” and controversy swirled over the death of Javier Ambler in Austin, which was captured (and later erased) by the A&e show, network execs felt they had no choice but to pull “Live Pd” off the air completely. Insiders said the cancellation was made completely internally by A+E Networks, led by president Paul Buccieri, although Disney/ABC Television Group and Hearst Communications — which own the company through a joint venture — were consulted about the decision.

A&e’s decision on Wednesday to cancel “Live Pd” amid a firestorm over its handling of footage of the 2019 death of a suspect in the custody of Texas police officers was a surprising — especially since up until Wednesday the the 4-year-old reality show was the cable network’s top-rated show. The show, co-hosted and co-executive produced by ABC News legal analyst Dan Abrams frequently topped all of cable in its Saturday night timeslot, with a Friday installment last year hitting a series high of 2.4 million total viewers. A&e’s commitment to “Live Pd” was such that renewals often came with hefty episode orders to fill the show’s year-round, twice-weekly schedule. As recently as last month, the network commissioned 160 additional episodes of “Live Pd,” which have now been scrapped. Also Read: 'Live P.D.'
