An inspiring story of growth (and memes)
EarlyEJ4 November 2019
I remember when I first saw SMG4 around 2012ish. I didn't like it. I was trying to find Mario "bloopers" (not to be confused with the Mario enemy of the same name). I hated the fact that it was mainly text based.

Jump forward like 2 years later and I decide to watch again. The quality had vastly improved, and the humor was hilarious and the meme sound effects and wacky stupid humor made me crack up. However, that was about it.

Jump to now and Luke and Kevin are making full storylines, collabs with big name youtubers, and even their own fully animated cg series (Meta Runner) and you have one of the most inspiring stories on Youtube.

The only problem I can think of is that you still have to read subtitles and that makes it nearly impossible to multitask while watching it. Otherwise it's one of my favorite series on the internet.

Progressed in Glory
isaiahralda30 January 2021
I've watched this channel since 2015. At first glance, I though it was really funny, but nothing much else. However, I kept watching from the bloopers to the newer content. SMG4 is definitely one of my favorite YouTube channels while growing up. The channel's storyline and comedy changed in late 2017, but I don't really mind it.

The newer content from 2017 onwards can be skeptical for some, but I really think that SMG4 started to grow here. From the Waluigi Arc to the YouTube Arc, I kept watching. While the old SMG4 focused on just the comedy, modern SMG4 focuses on both the comedy and story. As time went on and SMG4 got bigger, I was happy to see Luke and Kevin progressed. The channel is certainly amazing, and I'm glad I took a look a long time ago. Here's to the future of SMG4.

Randomness and memes
Farlo1235 November 2018
So I found this channel again recently and I remembered seeing his older videos when I was younger and I've decided to catch up from around 2016 until now.

I've just caught up with all the episodes and this channel is still as funny as it was back then. (Except for some bad videos from 2011-2014) If you like funny videos full of randomness and memes and not too much seriousness then I would definitely recommend this channel, at least starting from 2015.

Pingas!

SMG4 is a funny, crazy, sporadic, intense, even emotional and total madness of a ride in it's dumb (but good) ways, no mater what episode it is.

So funny

I love every episode that releases. It has the best current memes used at the right time for the most comedic moments. If you haven't seen it, go watch it right away. You won't regret it.

Memes galore!
epiccrossoverofficial30 December 2019
I started watching SMG4 all the way back in 2012 and I remember how amazing things were back then. I always remember the old classics in the 2011-2015 era, like Who let the chomp out? and Freddy's Spaghettiria. The R64, Guards N' Retards, and the SSENMODNAR series were the classics back in the day. I have seen every SMG4 episode to this day. And of course, the memes. My favorite being when the pingas joke just comes out of nowhere and I start dying on the other side of the screen. I hope this series continues to become better and better. Even when doing extras on the side, The SMG4 series will live for eternity.

YouTube videos just don't get more random and entertaining than this!
elijahbutler-401198 January 2018
I remember when I first watched SMG4 and I instantly fell in love with the channel and I still love it today! This is a GREAT example of a channel that is SO stupid and self-aware of itself that it actually works! When I think of SMG4, I think of it as a masterpiece of ALL randomness and I love every minute and every second of his videos and they just NEVER get old! I do enjoy the audio and dialog in every video and that's what makes SMG4 so funny and hilarious to watch, especially with the meme dialouge and today, the channel is currently at 1.7 million subscribers and it's VERY impressing that a channel with great and random content could get sooooo much attention and SMG4 is definitely one of best YouTube channels I've watched in a long time!

The Great Decline of SMG4
clllobee26 June 2022
I have been watching SMG4 for a very long time every since 2015, and I have to say that the show has been on a slow decline in humor and charm. I must emphasize the charm, because as the show progressed the show became more high quality and started to appeal to different audiences. Which turned the og fans away from the show. The new characters are terrible, as with the arcs. The first few were pretty good, but the later arcs proved that the creators have forgotten about the original audience. The newer arcs do not feel like they were intended for SMG4, but rather a different show entirely. The main reason for this is the new company they have created called GLITCH. The shows on GLITCH have been affecting SMG4 as a whole and thus makes the product more and more mediocre as time goes on. I am not sure if SMG4 can recover its glory days.

The Best Mario Cartoon That Never Was
playstationonward8 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
One of the funniest animation/gaming related shows on YouTube. Has all the good writing and charm of eleven minute cartoon episodes, mixed in with memes and well developed stories. Mario is the protagonist, and the whole thing is like an AU of Super Mario. He hangs out in Peach's castle with his best friend SMG4 and all the people he's friends with.

There's no limit on where they'll go, leaving some room for hilarious stories. A random search for some spaghetti and meatballs can become a quest to save the universe. Running out of milk leads to a gunfight with cows on a farm. Mario's stupidity knows no bounds. And all his friends are hilarious. SMG4's quest for meme gold, Bob's selfishness and his rap career, Boopkin's obsession with anime, Meggy's quest to overcome the difficulties put on her life by things out of her control, all great stories and arcs that range from funny to actually wholesome and touching.

Best dang Mario cartoon I've ever seen. It should be noted that these guys have mastered the eleven minute cartoon format, the pacing is always so good and there's a guaranteed laugh or two a minute. Good editing, timing, etc. Just a good time for anyone looking for some laughter and some brain cells to kill. Good show.

A meme fest galore!
frogers-4254914 September 2019
It's hard to describe SMG4. To put it simply, it's a series involving Mario (being a spaghetti loving moron) and his friends including SMG4 (who looks are like his only wearing blue and white clothing), Luigi, Toad just to name a few going on wacky, fast-paced meme filled adventures.

Of course from that description, the point of this series is to be a comedy, subverting the Mario universe and other Nintendo properties like Zelda or Kirby. It has a wide variety of humour from slapstick, fourth wall breaks, dark and sex filled humour (btw this isn't a family friendly channel, despite many children making up a great deal of the audience) and while most of them can work, providing lots of laugh out loud laughs, others do come across as awkward but not as bad as something like Family Guy. The way the show inserts memes surprisingly doesn't feel forced (at least in early seasons but I'll come to that later) and each character (protagonist or antagonist) have their own unique personalities.

Now onto flaws: Many SMG4 viewers have their own vision of when the show entered Simpsons, Family Guy or Spongebob territory of seasonal rot around season 5 (2016-2017) or above (I personally think it went downhill in 2018). This is because of repeated plot lines from earlier episodes, overuse of jokes and characters who either overstay their welcome or shouldn't even exist, as well as the inclusion of drama-filled story arcs. People like myself note these issues because they feel out of place within the shows environment and universe (A show where nearly everyone has a love-hate relationship with each other suddenly caring for one another in a big story or completely original characters who are not Nintendo based).

Finally, the show is produced in Super Mario 64 and later on Gmod and uses stock music and sound effects to help deliver the jokes. Rather if that can be considered a good or bad thing can depend on who you ask.

To conclude, if you're looking for a good time, this show is worth a look though stick with 2012-2017 period since that's where most of your good time will come from. 7/10

disappointment

Warning: Spoilers
When i was a litlle kid i loved to watch smg4, i remember laughing alot, but time has past and i now see that the content of the channel has changed and alot, firat of all, the newer ARCs aren't funny the team behind SMG4 makes you like a character and then kill him with a super BAD script.

Tbh i find the older ARCs better than the newer, they were funny tho, now the newer episodes are just the characters doing some random things and fighting the CO of nintendo.

SMG4 went in the same direction as Family Guy and The Simpsons, so I think as the shows get older they get less funny, honestly i hope the channel one day can get better than it was on (2014 - 2016)

It's decent
ririazeem3 July 2017
I really like the channel, I have been watching it since four years ago. But i'll give it an 8 because of the same jokes being used over and over in its newer videos. but it at least deserves a 8.1 / 10.

But at the end of the day, it's still a great and underrated channel.

1. 2017 is becoming a really OK year as of today.

2. 2016 was alright.

3. 2015 was good and great.

4. 2011-2014 was amazing!

CHANGE MY DAY
patricklengkey16 August 2021
I first got to know SMG4 when I was in 2nd grade in 2013, I was looking for a video about SM64 ways to die. But I came across a video entitled "101 ways for mario to die (the right way!) 50000 subs!". While watching this video, I was shocked and my head exploded and that's when I found out SMG4. Even though it's a parody I really like it. Absolutely unbelievable, at this point his channel is very popular among Mario fans and he even has an animation company called Glitch Productions and the animations are funded by Screen Australia so the animations are a success. In my opinion, this is my favorite Nintendo parody. I really like his journey from making a simple SM64 parody to having a pretty successful animation company.

At first glance, one of the worst series ever. At second glance, the polar opposite.
IanHowler20 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I must confess that growing up, I heard about this series quite a lot, primarily from my sister. And to be perfectly honest, the first video I actually watched when I finally gave it a try ("The Evilness of Eggman(?)") was the very same episode I stopped watching exactly 35 seconds into it. I genuinely hated it, mainly because of the fact they changed every character's personality from the ones I loved and cherished up until that point. Many years later (when I was 19 years old, to be exact), a different episode popped up in my Youtube application's Recommended section ("We are number one but it's a Waluigi parody"), and I decided to give the show another go. And I was not disappointed whatsoever! It wasn't until a few days later that I found out that this was the same person who had made the video that drove me away from the series in the first instance. But even after finding this out, I was still intrigued, and began watching every episode of SMG4 after this occurred.

Now, I must point out that i wish other people obsessed with the past please just shut up about this show not being good today. It has, in my opinion at least, had a few repeated jokes and episodes, sure, but that's also more or less the whole point of it. Also, 2011-2013 WAS TERRIBLE. All those so-called "jokes" about gay people, racist comments, and otherwise poorly-delivered poop jokes have absolutely no need to be in this show. This is another reason why modern day SMG4 is better than classic, as the characters are slowly but surely learning from the mistakes they made in the past.

One example of this is Luigi in one of the newest episodes at the time of this being written. In "The Weegee Uprising", Luigi recognizes the same beings from "The Luigi Labyrinth" when he tried to take over the world using Weegee dolls. He even says this line in the new episode: "No...Not again! They're back?!" This shows he regrets his actions from back then.

Another example is Meggy in the episode, "There's Something Up with Meggy", where Meggy is trying to cope with having to watch Desti (her former rival-turned-friend) get murdered right in front of her while she could do nothing but watch (which still makes me cry every time i see it). By the end of the episode, Meggy's motivation to fulfill Desti's dying wish is reawakened thanks to Mario, Luigi, and Tari.

My last example I will give (but certainly not the last one to be seen in the show, just look closely and you'll probably notice even more of these examples) is, of course, Super Mario. I legitimately love the fact that even though he spends almost all of his time on screen either eating or making love to spaghetti (or both), Mario has definitely improved his attitude towards his friends and family over the years. A prime example of this is pretty much, at least in my opinion, almost anything involving him and Meggy or him and Luigi (Especially in the case of the latter character). Meggy and Mario definitely got off on the wrong foot in the episode titled, "If Mario Was in...Splatoon". Seriously, that first ever scene with them together where Mario opens the paint can and unwittingly sets Meggy free in the process was a really great way to start off that episode and their overall relationship, especially considering that Mario becomes determined to win Splatfest with Meggy throughout that same episode (and indeed, the rest of the series thus far). And then of course, there's Luigi, Mario's famous younger brother, the second half of the Mario Brothers...and likely the most cowardly human to ever exist in fiction. But all of that aside, Mario actually begins treating Luigi with respect rather than...well, disrespect, especially in more recent years. I honestly cannot STAND the fact that back when I first started binge-watching the show as a whole, Luigi being made fun of by the other characters, even (if not especially) Mario, just because he was "gay" was such a terrible comedy shtick. In my honest opinion, it shouldn't even really be considered a "comedy show" when calling people gay is the goto "joke" of every single episode, as I stated above. However, over time, the creator(s) seemed to realize this fact (whether due to more people entering the creation of the show behind the scenes, or perhaps just that they realized these "jokes" had long overstayed their welcome), and Luigi eventually became much more of an accepted character by the rest of the cast in the series. One thing I especially love is the fact that despite everything Luigi has gone through over the years, ranging anywhere from rejection to cowardice, he definitely redeems himself these days due to brotherly love for his older sibling serving as the basis for the more...insane things he tries. I mean, just watch or even re-watch Mario SAW if you don't believe me.

my favorite YouTube channel
thesterlingweaver31 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
For the past eleven years, this has been meme central but then it started having a story, and the story is the best part about it, while there is a lot of comedic and iconic moments, it also has it's emotional moments, like axol dying was so emotional and made melony and axol some of the best characters in the show, I would say my favorite character is Bob, he's really funny, every single arc is incredible and I will continue to watch this perfect series until the day I die.

A Great Series
homeamadeus2 February 2022
I like the series a lot. I don't care what others said about it. Some people complain that the modern series is bad (especially the arcs) I thought it was a good way to see other way to add new things to the mix and a god way to see characters grow. I liked the series new arcs since it adds things that a single episode can't do. I also like the new characters, I enjoyed the humor, and the series is enjoyable. And even if you don't like the arcs, the funny episodes still is good and funny. I think that people just don't like change, but I generally thinks that it could be good.

I do want to see older characters like X and FM to come back. Along with that I think that the stories balanced comedy and story together. Smg4 is growing, and I personally enjoy these changes with new characters and even more stories. I just think that people just don't like the change and I can respect that, but I am getting tired of people saying "Modern Smg4 sucks." when it really doesn't. I enjoy these newer and fresh stories. In my opinion, if you just focus on comedy, your gonna lose that touch on rewatch. But with stories like the anime and youtube arc, I think that it will be rewatchable and fun to watch at the same time while also giving us growth. This is something a lot of good shows have, and I love it. Also, I am getting tired of everyone saying that modern smg4 sucks, when it really doesn't.

I enjoyed the character arc and the funny humor. I really like it. I can't wait to see what smg4 is gonna bring to us in the future. So I give it a 10/10.

The episodes on this channel do contain A LOT of swearing, some violence and sexual content. It's very funny but NOT for children. It's more for older teens and adults. I recommend it 10/10.

Parents Beware
KimitKimitTheFrg20 January 2022
I one had decided to let my children (6yo and 8 yo) watch this show on YouTube, BIG MISTAKE. I was absolutely horrified to see the violence, killing, and swearing in this show. This show contained characters farting, pooping, swearing, and even killing each other, but disguises itself as a child-friendly cartoon for children. It is almost as bad as "SuperMarioLogan" with its violence and swearing, parents do not let you children watch this program and make sure to block the channel from your children.

The Rick And Morty of the internet
casparhayes15 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, I've never thought I'd say that something like this is actually really good.

The use of memes isn't forceful and is actually really funny at times, partially due to how the show adds a meme to make a standard joke like having hallucinations to give it a charm so people stay engaged. The episodes, even at their worst are still very enjoyable and seeing outlandish concepts with Nintendo characters is a lot of fun.

My main issue with the show is something strange, and is the main reason why I gave the title of the review it's name "the rick and Morty of the internet" and that being when the show focuses on a character it's strange, the recent anime arc has a great deal of development for The character Meggy, which is fine but what made something like The Waluigi arc so entertaining was the less amount of emotional baggage and the absurdity of the arc with smaller bits of character development, such as the therapy session at the end of the arc being satisfying and funny and absurd.

Overall I'm intrigued where this will go and how Lucas and Kevin will pull it off.

Positive opinion incoming!!1
bssiiwkqababwk2 June 2021
(if u use tweeter don't read this plz)

SMG4 is a great animated series with creative plots, funny jokes, and great characters. The series HAS gone through some big changes, though. At around 2017 SMG4 started to prioritize Garry's Mod over Super Mario 64, and started adding more complex, less comedy based characters like Tari, and the infamous "Meggy". These characters along with a MOSTLY slight change in tone (The tone is sometimes drastically shifted in the "arcs" starting in 2018) which has been controversial among fans. Somewhere around 2020 the hate for SMG4 started to become larger, and as of writing this is "New SMG4 bad old SMG4 good" is basically the default opinion now. Its a shame, because many call the show "trash" and "cRiNGe" despite being an actual decent animated series, even in its current state. 8/10 as of now.
