After episodes of buildup, we finally learn about the origin of Gumbald. This episode features Princess Bubblegum talking about how it all happened 800 years ago. I admit that I had no idea PB was that old. I knew Marceline was hundreds of years old, but not her. In the flashback, we see this photograph of a normal looking family that I don't really understand. Oh, it was probably explained in one of the episodes I missed, right? It turns out Gumbald was created by PB to be a family member.
She was just experimenting creating new life. Gumbald wants to build things for capitalism while PB just wants to have fun. I could have sworn that was a root beer lake at first. It turned out to be butterscotch. Hey, she created the first Swedish Fish! Well, they never actually call it that presumably because of legal reasons, but it's pretty obvious this fish is based off it. The episode ends with Gumbald turning into a bowl of punch. How random. ****
