There are much harder Selection Processes than Portrayed
dncorp25 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The hardest Selection Process that I ever encountered was U.S. Army Special Forces. The Second hardest was U.S. Army Rangers, U.S.N. BUD/S. These Processes are both Physical,Psychological and Proof of Technical Skills. Both also have Peer Reviews as Actual Life or Death Team Dynamics.

After growing up out of the U.S. Military's Conventional Warfare Forces, you quickly realize that the "Just Following Orders" and a lack of Initiative does not Work, just like James' answer to the Panel, that he would obey Orders regardless of his Observations.

Most of us before becoming U.S. Army Special Forces had hobbies like Free Fall Skydiving, Running Marathons, Motorcross, Aviation, Openwater Dives, Technical Mountain Climbing, and others that require 100 percent correct responses during an emergency. Electronics, Computer Programming, Mechanical Watch Repair, Machining, and others that are repetitive and meticulous with lots of attention to detail, some that translate into us being able to MacGyver lots of things while at 3rd World Nations.

Most have multiple Associates Degrees, more than one Bachelors Degree, already have a Masters Degree and or a Doctorate, usually in the Sciences, or Medical Fields. Meaning that we can learn other things to become Astronauts, but, those that cannot tolerate what we have been trained and conditioned to do, but are Scientists are not likely to ever become Astronauts.

After each Mission, we write very Detailed After Action Reports that almost are like watching a Movie all of this then becomes Life or Death "Actionable Intelligence", write Peer Reviews, are Debriefed, and a Psychological Evaluation. Any of these can get a Team Member kicked out of the Team, including the Team Leader. "Stress" and the accompanying Adrenaline Surges and "Working Under Pressure" are routine almost making us "Adrenaline Junkies" (When you are not Under Stress having Adrenaline Surges and not Working Under Pressure, you feel that something is wrong). There are Panels that interrogate Us, Promote or Out.

Most of us are actually Introverts, but when required are Extroverts to Stand up in front of large crowds to Teach. We have very strong Type A Personalities, but do a lot of Introspective Self Diagnostics, and know that to be a Great Leader at times you must also be a Great Follower (Team Member). From being on Life or Death Teams we know that there are "I's" In Team, unlike the lie told by $Million Athletes that are the Team, "There is no I in Team". Some of Our "I's" are Initiative, Ingenuity, Individuality as Individual Strengths and Weaknesses, Intelligence, Integrity, Improvement, Inter Operability (ability to do other Team Members Skills), Inter Branch Inter Service Inter Agency Operations (Joint Special Operations Missions), Intestinal Fortitude, Independent (accomplish the Team's Mission even if you are the only Survivor, or SERE, Self Exfiltration), there are other "I's".

Based on knowledge, my interest in Space, the First Step is the Construction of a "Space Elevator" connected to a Earth Orbit Space Station and Space Ship Yard to build Real Spacecraft, a Manufacturing Facility with concentrated solar furnaces to reprocess all the "Space Junk" into Spacecraft parts, Space Tug Boats and Mining of Near Earth Objects, a Lunar Base with Mining and Magnetic Rail launchers, Laser Communications Relays and Beacons as also a Emergency Life Boats between Earth and Mars, Millions of Tons are sent to Mars from the Magnetic Rail Launchers on the Moon and the Space Station(s) long before the Spacecraft at the Space Ship Yard departs.
