So many people giving this low reviews because it's "slow"....... this episode had me maybe the most emotional in the entire series. Elisabeth moss is PHENOMENAL. This episode is powerful and important and incredibly acted and directed. I am literally blown away. There was barely any dialogue in this entire episode and I still feel so much, THAT is a mark of exceptional television. All those hating on this episode are too easily bored, pay attention to what makes amazing tv amazing.

A good bottle episode
ranchi28 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Having in mind this was a filler episode that sets us up for the last two, this was a quite impressive 45 minutes of television, largely due to Moss' talent. She carries the whole episode, even though there wasn't much to work with until the last 15 minutes. Also, the cinematography was above average (even to the show's standards).
To sum up: this is an episode where nothing happens until everything happens.
The bottle episode delivered (see what I did there).

ADD people need not watch!

This was an amazing episode, just like the others. For all those mad that she didn't escape, how do you propose that she could've done it? Got across the border? There's no way, and she knew that.
If you have ADD then don't even watch this episode. If you're looking for more action and more "excitement", go watch a network cop show. This episode was perfection.

Another hit

Well most of the critics think this was a disappointment, I think this whole episode showed a woman desperate to escape but could not, obviously due the overall story being about babies etc I thought Moss carried the episode yes, but it could only be done this way so her story could be told. The critics are way out or just blind to the story
Praised be, more Serena and Fred.

Moss definitely carried this episode and she really better win the Emmy. The tension was high for me but won't reveal any spoilers was a little disappointed in the end. Let's see what the next 2 give us for an ending.

I usually restrain myself in the comments, but today I simply need to share after watching this epsiodio.
I find myself without ground, without air and only tears.
What about an episode that only makes you feel? !!!
As much as I hope for June's escape and happiness, her sacrifice of having her daughter alone and asking for help is simply incredible, she could have fled before, could give up life within her for freedom ... but she chooses to give light and have the baby safe and sound.
What else does this serie reserve for our emotions?

Title: The oath keeper

I promised you!" But will this world be the one shes a part of or will she keep her promise now that she brought Holly into this world and promised not to introduce her child to this tryanny and Gilaed filled America that once pledged alloedgiece and raping was for the men locked away in prisons or wanted on the gritty streets. Not addressed as lord commanders! A world taken over by men with laws to oppress women and blame them for the lack of fertility. Of course this is expressed in the best light possible. Woman can also he found in the colonies where their teeth fall out daily.
But in this episode, June fights and fights showing why women are so strong and persevere! She continues to fight to survive. It's all captured beautifully from above with amazing camera views as she runs treading the snow with a belly about to burst. A red figure surrounded by all white. Breathless but alone! Shes always been alone but she fights and survives. This was Elizabeth Moss powerhouse performance!
The flashbacks are memorizing and sensational and show the powerful tone of the moments. The character develipmemt! In the end she doesnt shoot the Waterfords but instead shoots for help, as she aims the shotgun this time towards the sky maybe perhaps, God? She shoots for help for another survival. Holly. Her promise afterall. Will she keep it or be the oath breaker?

Slow but important

I was a bit disappointed on this episode, the whole season has been amazing and this episode was definitely important but wish it wasn't as slow. I am being selfish because I realize it's almost the end of the season and I don't want any episode to drag. The moment between the Waterford's showed how their life and marriage are falling apart and the fear that comes with that. It was a beautiful moment with June and Holly with lots of anticipation with who has arrived at the end of the scene. This series is amazing and provides so much more insight that the book never had a chance to tell. It's a must see!
Another great episode with a little disappointment

I think this episode was a little slow but it was still a very intense and wonderful episode.
Spoilers:
Okay, so the first half of the episode really had me on the edge of my seat. I really though Offred was going to make it out. When she went into labor I was thinking that she was going to have the baby there and then escape with the baby, but NOPE. She turned herself in. I guess I'm disappointed because I kinda felt like she gave up, but hopefully she will still figure something out. The show still did it's job because now I'm dying for next weeks episode!

The idea of the Waterfords being on their own chasing after Offred is a little crazy, but this was a wild episode. Part of me did even think June might pull the trigger, against better judgment.
This was another episode showcasing the power of Elisabeth Moss' acting. We can expect another Emmy win for this role the next time she is up for it.

Waste of time...
jeffballermed17 November 2018
Right off the bat, I want to say that I love this show. Also, I rarely give anything a rating under seven. but this episode was pretty much a waste of time, except for about the last 10 minutes. One thing I've been noticing lately are shows will spend 3 minutes just watching someone walk somewhere or 3 minutes just watching a character think or cry. I'm okay with the slow burn, but this is a whole other thing.
About 45 minutes of this episode is just watching Offred walk around a house, stop to think, walk around some more, etc. Then every 10 minutes or so you get a 1-2 minute scene with dialogue. They could have put the 10 minutes of the important stuff into another episode and saved us a lot of time.
And like I said, I love this show and this is the first episode that I've rated below an 8. So that's saying something.

Holly's Birth
vivianla7 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
June is stuck in the house as Nick was taken away by the Guardians. She finds a cloak and a nice car. There is no electricity so the garage door won't rise. She attempts to run through the garage door but it doesn't budge. Outside a wolf appears as she tries to pry the door from outside. She carefully goes back inside. Serena and Fred come. Serena is furious and screams for June. During their fighting, Serena reveals the father is Nick. The Waterfords leave the house. June goes into labour and strips off her clothes as she screams in agony. In a flashback we see Holly, June's mother, show her to a comfortable room. Very non-hospital. June says she prefers the hospital. June's mother works at the hospital and mentions the superbugs. Moira comments her friend Bridget gave birth in the woods over a stream. Youtubed it and everything. June gives birth to baby Holly.
Between Past and Present

Warning: Spoilers
In the eleventh episode of The Handmaid's Tale Season 2, the narrative takes a compelling turn, shifting to a confined and intense setting within the walls of the house where Nick left Offred, now in the hands of the Eyes. While this installment may not match the frenetic pace of its predecessors, it succeeds in creating a tense and introspective atmosphere.
Trapped within the house, Offred embarks on a desperate attempt to escape, only to find herself confined in an environment devoid of any viable exit. The sequence unfolds as a claustrophobic experience, with Offred's every move scrutinized. Her resourcefulness becomes evident as she manages to acquire keys, preparing a survival kit in anticipation of the unknown.
A mysterious encounter with a wolf outside adds an enigmatic layer to the narrative, the creature observing Offred without intervening. This symbolic presence raises questions about the nature of the observer and its potential significance in Offred's journey.
The arrival of Serena and Fred Waterford injects a new layer of tension into the storyline. Offred, concealed and armed, grapples with the decision to confront her oppressors. The internal struggle is palpable as she refrains from taking action, witnessing the Waterfords leaving the house, each blaming the other for Offred's escape.
The episode skillfully weaves between Offred's past and present, offering poignant glimpses into her life as June before Gilead. Flashbacks featuring her mother, Moira, and Luke provide emotional resonance as Offred faces the imminent birth of her child in the present. These juxtapositions highlight the stark contrast between a world lost and the oppressive reality she now confronts.
In a climactic moment, Offred employs the firearm to draw attention to her location, marking a symbolic gesture that echoes both defiance and the primal instinct for survival. The episode concludes with Offred commencing her solitary labor, surrounded by memories of her past childbirth experiences.
The emotional moment of this episode is when June speaks to her new child, Holly, as a tribute to her mother who died in the colonies. It's touching that she shares her story, the real story, even though she will be forced to leave the child with another family.
While this episode adopts a more measured pace, it serves as a crucial bridge to the impending resolution. The birth of the child introduces a pivotal juncture, leaving viewers to ponder Offred's next move and the potential ramifications for her newly born child. As the narrative inches towards the season finale, the anticipation for Offred's fate and the unfolding consequences intensifies.

What happened here?

The car scene. No a single person on set explained that this was so poorly written.
emperorsclothes4 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, so she is a bit out of it, because she is having contractions, this doesn't mean the laws of physics don't work.
Also, she only tried the one door to pull the release latch from the electric door opener.
That car would have smashed through the door. She probably could have got out one of the other doors.
I just can't even begin to say what a stupid part this was- the episode was a bit slow and this scene was not only completely unbelievable and written by that douchey film student you hate, but the scene was unnecessary.
Not to mention, she should have killed her rapists.

The worst yet...
Leofwine_draca20 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Undoubtedly the worst episode yet. I had a feeling this would be a filler one and so it proves. The only interesting parts of the episode are the bits with the cameoing wolf and the big suspense sequence in which Serena and the Commander show up at the house; both great, well-directed moments. The rest just consists of inane, pointless flashbacks (I remember when I used to look forward to the flashbacks in this show) and then an elongated birth sequence at the climax, which goes on for even longer thanks to random intercutting to a past birth. Talk about making a lot out of a little.
